Check out Marty Friedman and how weird his picking is, would you say he has a bad technique? I'm a professional drummer and I blast beat with both my fingers and my wrist cause I feel I lose power when I only use my fingers, although I was taught to do it like that.

If you actually try playing without your pinky though you lose a lot of power (at least you do with german grip anyway) but I know what you mean, if it works for you it works for you.

his grip is absolutely fine, he is using the rebound for speed and needs to hold the sticks lightly for that. different drummers hold and hit differently,

you'd be right to point out that mike himself doesn't hold the sticks so lightly but a lot of drummers do, including myself.

The sticks arnt slipping his grip and he is hitting the drums pretty well with minimum stress on his forearms. i suppose thats the point but ofcourse it could be different from how you do it.

i would agree with you however that perhaps he could learn a few other grips to diversify but he is quite young and has a lot of time ahead of him to do that. percussionists use so many techniques to play, i would hardly call any of them wrong as long as it works for them.
