That diet's been around since the 1920s but took a back seat to anticonvulsant drugs. It's only recently that it's returned as the best treatment. And thank God for that. I hope Christina is doing better.

Maybe someone can help me. I find that I do better in heavy ketosis, feel more energy, less hunger, better mood...etc,etc. The problem is I am having a hard time getting my strips to go above a weak or low level of ketones. The times I have felt the best was when I had the strips deep purple. I limit my carbs to less than 5gm a day, limit protein to adequate levels (20%), eat mostly fat. I am kinda stuck with the last 10 lbs (5ft7,160lb). Any suggestions are welcome.
My niece has epilepsy as well-she's 4 and also on the Ketogenic diet-which pretty much saved her. Word of advice, If your child or anyone goes into a seizer, it's a good idea to turn off all lights, tvs ect. Anything that creates flashes of lights, motion or light itself. Lights n stuff like that send these signal like messages to the brain and causes the seizer or causes it to worsen.
i also suffer from epilepsy. i am 23 making 24 and i haven't had an epileptic episode in 9 years going on 10 years. watching these videos with people who are experiencing the same thing i went through is painful. i have a 5 month old son and it also scares me because i don't know when i will get another attack. so my heart goes out to the parents and the kids.
i was learning about taking care of someone that has seizures and the first big thing to do is roll her on her side because her siliva will roll out and her toungue will not block the air way, and you dont want her to choke on her siliva also. just a helpful tip. :) hope all goes well, and she gets better.
today my friend shes 11 years old was attacked by the seizure and we were scared to life her name was maria and she started screaming when she falted and her chin twisted up the teacher was scared and some of us were crying cause she is a good friend of us right now she is in the hospital
I do a ketogenic diet for many reasons, here are some things that are real important for ME, in making this diet effective. 1. High level of ketones 2. Restrict carbs to very low levels, less than 20g. 3. Restrict protein levels to body requirements 4. Restrict fluid intake, this will increase ketone concentration. 5. Eat a SLIGHTLY subcaloric diet. 6. I eat a large percentage of calories from fat, about 70%.
I use MCT's, (coconut oil) occasionaly, but that stuff is rough on the gut.

Sometimes Dr's ask the parents to record the seizure as to better determine the type. My daughter has Angelman Syndrome and had her first seizure, and I'm trying to figure out which type closest resembles what she went thru. I find videos like this helpful, and I want to say thank you to the parents for posting it.

Some of things I have observed while following a high fat/low carb diet: The higher the ketosis (within reason, I am non diabetic so dka is not a problem)=the better I feel, less hunger, better sense of well being, more energy, less cravings, to name a few. I have heard people say that if they are in ketosis, the level does not matter, that is definitely NOT the case for me. The ketogenic diet for me is hard at first, it takes me about 3 weeks just to feel normal. I also limit water & protein.
@Elisha6962 Sometimes the doctors need a video recording to examine the effects the seizure has on the person. Did you EVER think of that? These people aren't "sick". They're doing this to help their kid, dude.
If this is something tht happens everyday ther is no need to call a doctor every time. They have probebly learned how to handle it! So don`t be so mad for something you don`t understand!
These recordings will help many people including doctors to get some real in depth view in to this issue. Beside, if you KNOW what you are doing, you DO NOT have to call the doctors. You can just help the victim. Keep your stupid comments to yourself.
If you called the doc or went to the hospital every time you had a seizure you are WASTING those people's time. People who have frequent seizures are able to control them at home. The only time a seizure needs to be called in is if it is the first time the pt is having it or if it lasts more than 15+ minutes.

Poor kid, I really feel sorry for her, I hope she is doing better. A good version of the ketogenic diet is the medium chain triglyceride version. It allows for a LITTLE more carbs and protein in the diet. Mct is fat that is more easily used for energy and encourages ketosis. A little hard on the stomach though. Cheers!

If you called the doc or went to the hospital every time you had a seizure you are WASTING those people's time. People who have frequent seizures are able to control them at home. The only time a seizure needs to be called in is if it is the first time the pt is having it or if it lasts more than 15+ minutes.

Idiot... the doctor asks them to record it, to get a better idea of what is going on and what the seizures look like. My nephew has just had his 3rd brain surgery for his seizures, just a few weeks ago. Know what you are talking about before you try to call these people "sick".

Poor kid, I really feel sorry for her, I hope she is doing better. A good version of the ketogenic diet is the medium chain triglyceride version. It allows for a LITTLE more carbs and protein in the diet. Mct is fat that is more easily used for energy and encourages ketosis. A little hard on the stomach though. Cheers!

@Tetsacry Do you even have half a heart? Seizures are not funny, and you can't begin to understnd the emotional and physical impact it can bring to others. Also, this child is NOT retarded, and that is an insulting term in itself. I have autism and so does my brother, so you should grow up.
