i actually know the problem but i cant remember cause its been a year since we figured out my friends problem, theres some sort of idle piece that has something you need to tighten and itll stop doing that
well vtec problems are related to oil pressure or the solenoid it self. so check VTEC solenoid gasket (if rock hard or clogged with shit / sludge, replace it), oil condition, leaks (check cam seals, valve cover, oil cooler, vtec solenoid), oil pressure sensor etc. ps VTEC does not engage in park, neutral or 1st gear. The kangaroo-ing idle and engine check light seem like either a throttle body issue or air in coolant. Since this was posted in like 2010 i doubt you give a rats ass now though
this happened at a dyno day to a newer teggy that ran a 50 shot of nos that kicked in the same time as vtec. They also kept in it to 9200 rpms and all sorts of hot firey stuff flew out of the car. It made like 200 on a mustang dyno so not bad. but it idled like shit for a while after each pull did the same thing as yours
Check and make sure all your wires to the ecu are in and make sure pins are in .. If they are take to the autoparts store like "autozone" and stuff and have them check your throtle position sensor or m.a.p sensor
i' v got h23a h22a f22a usdm complete service manual.. anybody who wants to buy it i send it thru email pdf format for us15 dollar...sms 0139170623 malaysia...email jefdaud@gmail.com
@steves7613 ....... your ignorance is the problem, did you know its almost IMPOSSIBLE to blow up a honda engine with vtec? honda has sold OVER 17 million vtec systems and not one has broken down, people just think there vtec is broken because there ECU is in limp mode.
just need a tune up i dont think its ur vtec cuz i have a switch on mines n when its off it does that sometimes but its bcuz of my exhaust too much oxygen not enough gas
Mine was having this problem. I checked my coolant level and it was pretty low. Added some and Bam problem solved, but i would still check and clean your throttle bottle/ IACU and fast idle control.
usually happens when you make a homemade shitty swap with an engine built up of random honda engines. HAH dont be a hick and build ur shit in yo garage next to ur john deere
Almost always, when the check engine light flickers on and off its a sign of a misfire on one or more of the cylinders, so check if you have adequate spark to all cylinders first.
Clean the IACV & also clean the FIV, then let it air dry before...back track your steps just as you removed it. BTW...also check VTEC solenoid for any leaks, or just replace the VTEC gasket all together after spraying it off with some carb cleaner, air dry that too!!!
its the idle air control valve
