A long time ago, the US annexed PR and turned it into a US territory, gifting us all with US Citizenship(of which I am very thankful). Then, the US began "Operation Bootstrap" which officially destroyed massive Agriculture in PR, and replaced it with industry.
This had 2 effects. 1) PR is now a wealthier place. So in the long haul, it was a good idea. 2) In the short run, millions of Puerto Ricans were impoverished over night.

Wow. How do you "fix a loan?" Loans are simple things man, money and interest. You can raise and lower interest. But you still have to pay money. You can't fix loans. What you can change is who gets loans. That was one of the things that was deregulated.
Additionally, the Banks were deregulated, they were allowed to engage in credit swaps under Clinton (which means trading subprime or bad debt). This whole thing wouldn't have happened if the banks weren't trading that debt!

You can't Fix loans. Loans are interest and principle (the original amount borrowed). You cannot "fix loans" the same way you can't fix a $10 bill.

Credit and Banks are virtually deregulated. Every admnistration since 1978 has deregulated banks. It wasn't until they allowed credit default swaps under Clinton (2000) that things got ugly. Banks could then invest (with less collateral to protect against crashes, a law passed under G W Bush) in loans that were going to go unpaid. (subprime lending)
Now people couldn't repay those loans in the first place, because lending isn't regulated (never has been). You can issue credit cards to anyone. So what happens when you can't pay that back? You take out another loan! What happens when you can't pay off that loan? You take out a loan against your house! (Refinancing mortages) What happend when you can't pay that off...
Well. You default on your loan, and the credit institution get screwed.

@MrOTLChamp You don't have to explain. I know recession economics well. Pick up a Macroeconomics text book and look up, "Supply Shock" and "Recessionary Spending." You'll find that government spending and "stimulatory monetary policy" are pretty much the only way to get out of a recession, or a market crash. The truth is, we don't have a choice but to spend if we want to get out of this mess. Our case has been seen many times in history. I don't like the spending, but its necessary.

@lamesurfer101 The problems clearly out-way the benifits of having illegals being hired by our companies. First of all, they lower the quality of work. (Prime example is our construction industry). They lower the rate of pay, so much that the average american can't compete. A huge loss for the people that really spend their money here.

Money is weird. You know, its imaginary. So the Fed when the Fed increases the money supply, it does so "virtually." By that I mean, it does so electronically, or on ledgers. Every night, billions of dollars are printed and destroyed virtually in the Fed Money Market.
Also, look up "phillips curve." Its a law of economics that says you can't have high inflation and high unemployment at the same time.
The only way it happens is if Aggregate Supply ( Aka all businesses) were to collapse. We all hate the billionaire thieves on wall street. Everyone knows they're crooks. But if we didn't bail them out, then we'd have a Supply Side failure (the big businesses would close down virtually over night). Its crappy, I know. But it had to be done to rescue our economy as a whole.

Anyways... wages do keep up with inflation. Most wage clauses have a COLA (cost of living adjustment) or are indexed to inflation (meaning they go up periodically to match prices.
Every country has a central bank and a treasury. And every country is currently printing more and more money. Every single one.

My insurance doesn't tell me who I can see or what kind of treatment I'm allowed. So they are not as beaureaucratic as the government will be. There is no death squad. And my doctors have all the incintive in the world to be the best they can be. If the gov. takes over health care and regulates their pay, not that many people will go to school for the amount of years it takes to be a doctor for limited pay. Quality of health care will decrease rapidly.

First of all, if the necessary language was in there, they wouldn't have re-wrote the bill. They would have just showed it to him. The bill stated that you didn't have to varify citizenship to get insurance. As for the lies. Obama stated clearly in his campaign that there would not be lobbyist associated with his cabinet. Can we at least admit that his administration is much less prone to lobby activity than other, past administrations? Can we also note that, the idea of negotiation and democratic debate is trying to find common round, hence moving away from single-payer? As for the citizenship line, it does appear logical to me that it was addressed at those legal immigrants in the US that have the right to be there. If there was any weakness, good there is democratic debate and that W did not get fired.

A long time ago, the US annexed PR and turned it into a US territory, gifting us all with US Citizenship(of which I am very thankful). Then, the US began "Operation Bootstrap" which officially destroyed massive Agriculture in PR, and replaced it with industry.
This had 2 effects. 1) PR is now a wealthier place. So in the long haul, it was a good idea. 2) In the short run, millions of Puerto Ricans were impoverished over night.

You don't know how money works do you? If I were to take all $360 Billion, and Western Union them to Mars, The USA wouldn't lose that money. In any transaction money is simultaneously created and destroyed on a balanced ledger (hence the term balancing the books). Instead, foreign demand for our currency is good for our economy! The classic GDP formula is GDP = Consumer Spending + Investments + Government Spending + (Exports-Imports). Wow. How do you "fix a loan?" Loans are simple things man, money and interest. You can raise and lower interest. But you still have to pay money. You can't fix loans. What you can change is who gets loans. That was one of the things that was deregulated.
Additionally, the Banks were deregulated, they were allowed to engage in credit swaps under Clinton (which means trading subprime or bad debt). This whole thing wouldn't have happened if the banks weren't trading that debt!

Credit and Banks are virtually deregulated. Every admnistration since 1978 has deregulated banks. It wasn't until they allowed credit default swaps under Clinton (2000) that things got ugly. Banks could then invest (with less collateral to protect against crashes, a law passed under G W Bush) in loans that were going to go unpaid. (subprime lending)

@MrOTLChamp You don't have to explain. I know recession economics well. Pick up a Macroeconomics text book and look up, "Supply Shock" and "Recessionary Spending." You'll find that government spending and "stimulatory monetary policy" are pretty much the only way to get out of a recession, or a market crash. The truth is, we don't have a choice but to spend if we want to get out of this mess. Our case has been seen many times in history. I don't like the spending, but its necessary.

You also can't just forge a strong economy, by printing more money and giving it to the banks or wallstreet. The value of the dollar will be decimated by the influx of printed money, and cause mass inflation.

Money is weird. You know, its imaginary. So the Fed when the Fed increases the money supply, it does so "virtually." By that I mean, it does so electronically, or on ledgers. Every night, billions of dollars are printed and destroyed virtually in the Fed Money Market.
Also, look up "phillips curve." Its a law of economics that says you can't have high inflation and high unemployment at the same time.

Besides, new money is printed every day. But your wage actually goes up with it. (you may not notice it) You ever heard an old timer talk about how he could buy a week's groceries with a dollar back then, but he was still poor. Thats because inflation is always happening.
The Fed and the Gov't keep it from growing too fast, and companies keep your wage up to match the higher prices.

There are some good books out there about making economics easy to understand. One is "Economics Demystified." Read that and then you can move on to the textbooks (Ive got too many of those)

Don't get me wrong, there's both good and bad in every church, and Catholic Chartities are some of the most amazing institutions in the world. But the Catholic church has to get with it some times(no condoms... really?)
Anyways... wages do keep up with inflation. Most wage clauses have a COLA (cost of living adjustment) or are indexed to inflation (meaning they go up periodically to match prices.

-If you own a home, and you just put $300,000 into, what happens if deflation takes the value down to $200,000?

2) They start firing people and lowering wages
3) More unemployment, people buy less
4) Which means Businesses will make even less money

My insurance doesn't tell me who I can see or what kind of treatment I'm allowed. So they are not as beaureaucratic as the government will be. There is no death squad. And my doctors have all the incintive in the world to be the best they can be. If the gov. takes over health care and regulates their pay, not that many people will go to school for the amount of years it takes to be a doctor for limited pay. Quality of health care will decrease rapidly.
