Perceptive! You are the first person who noticed it was over the time limit. But for the final version I sent to Robot Chicken, I cut out the first scene (which admittedly is pretty boring) so it was within the time restraint. The limit was more than 1 minute though. Also why the last scene is so quick

Thanks for the comment. 100% stop motion. Galvanized steel-wire skeleton (mistake, not enough time to correct), all the rest was Van Aiken Claytoon clay. I photoshopped the wires out of the juggling scene (hastily). Only thing I won was the trust of my business partners with whom I am now starting a production company ;-)

I was selling TVs at Best Buy when I made this. All the sets were crammed in my room and I had to sleep on the couch until it was finished. The characters were all clamped to the kitchen countertop :)

Um... well, it's pretty anti-climactic. They never contacted me or replied or anything, which almost makes me think they didn't receive it. I finished editing it and had to export it about an hour or two before the deadline, and I think I made it in some bogus format they couldn't open. That was over a year ago - now I finally gave in and am going to school for finance. I guess I won't be an animator :-/

Came up with the script idea in about 2-3 days (with an awesome ending that I didn't have time to film), sets and characters took about a month and a half, animated it in 5 days with a camera I bought from Best Buy. Then I glued the camera box shut and returned it :) I turned it in to Adult Swim with about 10 minutes to spare. I filmed the last seen in 30 minutes! I don't think they actually received it to tell you the truth... I didn't know how to encode the video in a small file

Ya? Just keep doing it then! That's how I learned... I started animating in 5th grade with my parents' old camcorder. No one ever taught me how to do it, I just taught myself.

I also read a great book by Marc Spess in high school that taught me some of the tricks the pros use.

The armature (skeleton) is made out of twisted galvanized steel wire (which was a mistake; wrong wire, it made their movements real stiff) and epoxy putty. The outside is made of Van Aiken "claytoon" clay. Each one took about 2-3 days to make from scratch. It was my first time sculpting characters since I was 17 so I was actually pretty rusty.

In case you're curious, annealed steel was the type of wire I meant to use. Once I messed up (as with all the other mistakes) I didn't have any time to do it over again. I pretty much had one shot at everything

Thanks for the comments everyone. No, I didn't win. They didn't even acknowledge my entry, but I think I encoded it wrong when I sent it to them. For everyone who thought it sucked, remember I filmed it in 5 days. It was the fastest I've ever worked. Plus I used the wrong wire for the characters' skeletons and didn't realize until it was too late (too stiff). Probably because it was the first time I touched clay in 4 years.
