I might be the first one to say this but, this game looks even more like a Tim Burton version of Alice in Wonderland than his own. Me and my girlfriend both thought it looks like a Nightmare Before Christmas style of Alice in Wonderland.

In my opinion while playing, this was the worst game I have ever played in my life. The jumping is just plain awful, the enemies are boring and too hard to kill, the gameplay is repetitive as is the constantly repetitive and annoying music, most of the level design involves you falling onto platforms and losing most of your health. I personally think this game is mediocre at best. It wasn't worth what I bought it for, and I got it for free, that's how low I'd rate it. But that's just my opinion.

Here it`s more obvious because of the amount of macabre characters or enviroments but there is no need to be that "obvious" to be insane. I find the book more disturbing than this. In the game you actually understand something-there is a connection.

The different between this alice and the new one is that

American mcgee alice = not so good graphics but better game play

Alice madness returns = better graphics not as good gameplay, and music

Blood-curdling! I got goosebumps from that - now THAT'S how you do a twisted fairy tale. A lot of theme in their original forms before later revisions are incredibly dark e.g. The Girl Who Stepped on Bread, The Wild Swans, Bluebeard, Little Red Riding Hood etc.

If you buy Madness Returns it will have American McGee's Alice along with it.

The stories aren't connected in the type of way where you would be completely lost in the second one.

Would recommend playing both though! I got Madness Returns based on how much I loved the first one and I was very happy with it. Both of them are great games.

@ChuckTyme Modern "fairy tales" were pretty gruesome and dark at their core originally. Some early versions of the Snow White story said it was her own birth-mother who tried to kill her. Red Riding Hood was a cautionary tale to young girls about the dangers of strange men and the grandmother's devouring symbolized rape. And another quite disturbing tale is of Allerleirauh, which is of a king who promises to marry only one as beautiful as his wife had been, which ends up being his own daughter.
