Back in these days, getting a cut-scene of this quality was a rare, but satisfying treat, nowadays, you can take a piss in a game and get a frekin cut-scene, there's just no magic to it anymore!

The first and second thief games were awesome. Unfortunately, I wish I could say the same for Thief: Deadly Shadows, but then again, it comes as no surprise; after all, it was made by the same company that also barfed on the Deus Ex series by making Deus Ex: Invisible War.

@skittles25 Er, they also made the original Deus Ex. I'm not denying that there were some birthing pains as the PC and console markets started to merge, but I don't think you can fault the developers for that - they did their best with what they were given at the time.

Only took me 10 years, but I just now finished Thief Gold for the first time ever! Bought it when it came out, tried many times over the years. Always loved it, just never finished it. And THEN, I defeat the trickster, the final cutscene starts, and I have to check something in the other room, so I hit 'pause' on the keyboard--yeah that took me back to the menu. Rather than reload a save, I came here to watch it. TEN YEARS! Woot! Best game ever!

@tomodinktom I don't think anyone actually hates deadly shadows, but a lot of gamers are dissapointed. The storyline is a few leagues below the first two games (and by that I mean character depth, dialogue and the events unfolding), the level design is mediocre - as opposed to the multi-threaded challenging design previously seen and the general design lacks the trademark steampunk elements. Just play The Mansion mission in Thief and compare it to any mission in Thief: Deadly Shadows.

Well, I played it in the standard difficulty and it wasn't easy, but definitely not impossible. If it's the first time you play it, it might take a bit of time to get used to the gamestyle and to realise of all the possibilities you have. More than once I had to repeat parts of the missions... I think there are about 13 missions. Give it a chance and don't let the graphics prevent you from enjoying it. It might not look like much in the beginning but it gets better and better.

i know this sounds a bit odd but in fact there was said to be a trickster god and religious fanatics who used word's like thou and thee. It's like a war between nature and industry order and chaos and how even a thief can become a hero as it's prophesized by the keepers of the city which are the balance and keep it in line by eliminating threats from the shadows best game still after all the games i have played in my opinion it can't be beaten

i like the shillohuette animation a lot more than the animated pics, they look so fucking real. she's a great artist. i love this game, one of my fvorites. Garret is sic. the chick of the plants is dark and interesting. and the trickster was way crazy for a boss. quite original.

Thief was the first of it's kind - It invented the Sneaker genre of First Person games.

Being the first, that puts all future titles at a disadvantage. They are all playing catch-up to a masterpiece that may never be equaled. Thats what makes Thief so amazing, and also what makes it so difficult for future projects to take up the torch of equaling this perfection.

That said, with games today, graphics and requirements come first - gameplay second. Unless this is solved, Thief will stand alone.

To be honest, I did try to play for the storyline, but after mission num2,when I shoot some spider in a cage, he lauches hatchlings at me, that freak me out! spiders freak me out! later on that guarding mechanism of the mechanists...that moving head, it was freaky until I got what it was. and also I saw a boat,when suddenly the people started duying, and some were fighting the air...I knew those were the spiders.o_0

No words exist to give proper credit to such a great series. Plot, Setting, Music, Atmosphere, Gameplay - it was all there and just kept getting better. The cutscenes were singularly unique, and were totally in-line with the feel of the game. Anything newer, or more animated, would have ruined the mood. (for me personally) My only regret is that it's now a closed series. Thief 3 is the last, the storyline completed.

This is what real gaming is, and what so few titles of today ever match up to.
