actually, we could put sound on this. the magnetic coils driving the robot make quite a bit of sound when being driven at several kilohertz. check out our pacman video if you like this one.
I'm afraid the sound isn't ever possible in such movies, because size of particles is much smaller than sound wave length. So they just can't produse any sound human can hear.
But maybe it is possible to record ultrasonic waves and then convert it to audible sound. Have to tell video operators ;)
