i have slowly started to fix all the bad habits i have in my swing and totally neglected the grip -- thank goodness for this video -- i realized i was placing my right hand incorrectly and thus had a weak grip. by having the right hand more underneath the club i think i was inducing a lot more of an open face at contact (im a righty) anyways -- thanks for the great vids!!! keep them up -- if im ever on your side of the pond -- i may have to make a special trip over to your club!
Along with a chap called Dave Marsh you are by far and away the best golf instruction resource here. No one should look anywhere else! had the same right hand problem but worked so hard to keep the face open long enough. Never felt right though. Finally got right hand in postion. Club sets properly.Plane more above than behind. Pull down with the left hand and release so hard with the right. Can hit fade now too. Had to work so far inside the line before that was impossible!14.4 to 9.6!Thankyou!
Hey Mark, great vid. My right hand has been slowly sneaking under the grip more and more over the last year or so and I've been thinking about why I do it and how it is a defect in my overall swing. As you say, correcting it may feel very uncomfortable to start with but if you persist it seems to automatically correct aspects of your swing and will ultimately feel much better but you really have to give it a chance. Thanks
Hi Mark great video again. I'm somehow feeling unnatural when I don't underhand my right hand. It feels like the club might slip from my hand if i don't do it. It also feels difficult to release and roll my hands thru impact. any tips?. I have a video of my swing hope you can see it.
Excellent vid mark, worth noting here that there's a reason people have those strong grips and it takes more than just a grip change there's a mental change too. Strong grip is about control, really wanting to control the club right through the hitting area. If you try to do this with a neutral grip you will play worse, in order to play with the right grip you have to learn to genuinely release the club and relinquish control to gravity and momentum in the hitting area.
Mark, is the "release" something that can be made to happen with active hands during a proper swing motion or is the release achieved with the larger muscles ( proper weight transfer) & the hands are just passively going along for the ride?
@MrTeeCam i just went through this process, my right hand is now turned more to the left, as mark shows it in the video. It took me 3-4 week till i was comfortable hitting the ball again. My ballflight is not higher and a bit shorter but in stead of hitting bad hooks now and then, i even tend to slice a little bit. Most of the shots go quiet straight. Even if it feels uncomfortable in the start, i reccomend doing this to everyone who wants to hit more consistent.

@bigpaulsack In my opinion the release cannot happen with active hands in the hitting area you have to let it flow.

Hi Mark. Do you lose distance using the 'strong grip'?
