Why go Green or ride a bike or have few children and let the government import millions of immigrants that will each have a dozen kids and make you pay for them?

People like 2xtream take "warming' literally because they lack any education in science.

The fact is, it's 'heat', and this is a measure of energy on the Earth's surface. This heat is being converted into mechanical processes all over the globe in the form of storms and huge climate changes, and in the permanent loss of ice. When the heat is mechanized, it cools the ambient air/water.

Temperature Changes lead Carbon Dioxide Changes by 800 years!!!

When Al Gore showed his graph of 400,000 years Temp-to-CO2 relationship, the 800 lead of T to CO2 was obscured. He mislead the audience.

No doubt Human Industrial activity has at least a theoretical effect on Climate, but the magnitude is not known.

Above all, PEAK OIL will solve our fossil fuel habit, and get us to switch over to Blue-Green Energy. (I am Republican/Libertarian).

Definitely something to read about the CO2 following temperature changes. People should really try to have as much evidence prior to coming to conclusions. Of course at some point the lay person may need to differ to the experts as the complexity of the topic is more than most can figure out in their spare time.

But our fossil fuel habit can just as easily be met by coal as it can by oil and we are probably a century off from peak coal. Just guessing on the time scale.

Peak Coal is a century down the road at current demand. Coal can be used to produce a liquid fuel, but that's not a cheap process. Petroleum at present is absolute must for transportation. Without Transportation, we might as well not even worry about coal.

UnderseaCaveman: Coal was discussed quite a lot in the full program. Transportation accounts for about 25% of the CO2 emissions if that is or is not an issue I will leave that out of the discussion.

I am aware of coal liquefaction and its problems. I was more thinking of an electric vehicles of the future powered by the grid that derives its power from coal plants.

I can imagine a transportation system not based on refined oil but the concern is what form will it take.

Yeah, getting electric cars is terrific, if it is on renewable energy....otherwise, we are looking at a doubling of say coal demand, plus all the additional Power Plants will take time to approve/build.

However, once ground transport is on renewable energy, the ship/air sector has plenty of time (for development of renw liquid fuels, which is research being conducted by Air Force now... fuel from marine algae).

UnderseaCaveman: I've heard and read about several studies that algae, bacteria and fungi can be converted to fuel or produce fuel as a byproduct of their metabolism. Those stories are quite interesting but I bet those things are going to take few decades to implement if they ever really workout.

In the full program they seemed to believe that any radical changes to the transportation system would take 20 years or to deploy but one can hope to see change in one's lifetime.

I understand that Temperature/Climate change is caused by the sun and that industrial heat and carbon dioxide have very little effect on climate.

Is this view correct? Then we cannot change the climate since we cannot control the sun!!

I am just starting to get that understanding myself....so, I guess TRUE, if most temperature change is from SUN (tilt, activity, orbit, etc), then we have no control and its natural.... like Ice Ages and their opposites.

I think that we should all be careful when trying to understand the climate. Many factor contribute to the climate CO2, CH4, H20, the sun, particles in the atmosphere etc etc.

CO2 is very important to the climate the argument should be what effect does humanity have.

Too often I think that people see correlation between two things and jump to direct causation and ignore that other things may also be causing the effects that we see.

Waiting for peak oil to stop global worming isn't by any measures a good idea. We can use our oil wealth and resources to support green energy projects now and aggresively might I add, is a better solution. The whole human economic system depends on oil, imagine what would happen if it suddenly rockets too 20$ a gallon, OIL PEAK or any where near it means the total collapse of all human economical systems unless we do something now.

Warming leads people to think it means just getting warmer, on average, everywhere. People like you without any formal education, get confused. Warmer really means more energy in the atmosphere--it doesn't just get hotter. A lot of the energy is being used to do work, as in a heat engine: tornadoes, hurricanes, and other things of tihs sort.

Uneducated americans like you think heat = thermometer. Heat = energy, and it's having strong effects all over the globe.

Take a basic physics course.
