I do a my own version of mojito I call French mojito which same technic only with perrier and less rum and yerbabuena it makes for a lighter day drink
In cuba they dont make mojitos with brown sugar, so unless you've been to cuba (which clearly all the people complaining about not using brown sugar havent been) dont complain.
@frobrofityfoe I used to bartend and from my experience, it's neither masculine nor feminine. Only one type of man would feel uncomfortable drinking this; a man that is very insecure of his own sexuality. A drink is a drink, if you like it, drink it.
I am from Vladivostok, Far east of Russia. We do Mojito also, but another way. We put some lime parts to the bottom of highball glass of really big volume(15oz at least), mudl it, then put mint leaves. Personaly I mudl them really hard, but my boss told do it just a littel. Some my colleagues just clap mint between hands. Than we full glass with frappe, add simpl sirop, rum and water and steer well. What do you think about?
I bartend at a small beach bar in Sihanoukville, Cambodia and I make our mojitos much like this, except that add the mint into the lime juice with some crushed ice on top - then gently muddle it - this lets the ice release the oils from the mint without shredding it (no one wants to drink a salad). We use a house rum unless the customer wants to pay extra for Havana Club (which makes it taste so much better).
you my friend are an idiot. that is quite possibly the worst attempt i have ever seen in my life of a terrible drink! learn how to make a drink before you post it on youtube!
this guy is insane? he didnt even know whats the history of the great El draque" or Mojito,,, dude your in newyork, how come you dont have an ice crusher?????!!! probably after 20yrs your finish, nice hair by the way!!! hahahaha
'tiz interesting, no Boston shakes i haven't seen this method before but seems sweet. just don't know about the ripping the leaves in half.. but rimming the glass with the leaves is awesome but jus have to drink it without a straw. I like this method and an going to try it and i am guessing i will be pleasantly surprised because it looks mouth-watering.. churr
I'll really like to make my own bar, and me as the bartender hahaha, even if I'm terrible at serving drinks and preparing them, I'll feel comfortable behind a table adn bottles and stuff:B
one of the best and real mojitos to make or drink; half lime cut into 4 parts put in glass add 2 -3 teaspoons or cane sugar (depending on how sweet you like it) muddle this, add the mint on top of that next add crushed ice to the top fill almost all the way with Bacardi rum and then a splash or soda (or to add more lemon flavor to it use lemon soda) mix everything well to start dissolving the sugar and spread the juices. add 2 straws and you are set. i don't care if you like it or not just try!
Aren't you first supposed to muddle the lime (rinds and all) with the sugar, to get as much oil out of the lime skins? Or am I confusing this with the caipirinha?
That's how the Bacardi commercial/mainstream image shows it, but that is not recommended. The rind will make it bitter for the mojito and muddling limes with mint will bruise the mint too much adding more bitterness. However, muddling the lime rind will add the proper bitterness needed in a Caipirinha to balance the sweetness.
@sarsattacks OK thanks! Didn't realize mojitos were supposed to be so sweet. I guess I've developed a taste for more bitter-sour drinks, because I made my mojito the same way I make my caipirinhas and quite enjoyed it (I didn't bruise the mint, though) . I'll call it a mojirinha ;)
They're not supposed to be THAT sweet. The lime juice should balance the sweetness of the sugar, and the ice melt (from the crushed ice, which melts a lot easier) and soda water adds a bit of neutrality to it.
the best rum for the mojito is the original havana club anjeo 3 anos or anjeo blanco, no question about it... but it isn't availible in the us because it's a cuban product... and its the best ever
that pre-made shit is DISGUSTING! only great bartenders use FRESH, REAL products and produce not that imitation shit. and the best rum to use is a jamaican rum with this drink. no, not malibu rum. it may taste good but not for this drink. i'm talking about appleton estate jamaican rum. i fucking hate the people that go 'nah man this is completely wrong', if its wrong please do us a favour and explain how you make it to perfection then? cause ive watched a lot of vids and this guy seems pretty right to me.
seriously? you can't mess up a mojito. well yeah you could by crushing the mint to much as the guy above said. but there is more than one way to make it. some make it in a shaker, others make it in the glass.
@dangerpatt doesn't really matter, as long as your proportions are correct: 1 part lime juice and 2 parts rum is fine. in the video he uses a jigger to measure the liquids. one part of the jigger is about 30mL liquid. so he used 30mL of lime juice and 60mL of rum.
Probably means messing up the balance or the way the different liquids are sort of layered and if you were to stir it up too much it would be like a stew
@jazzsushi The soda has carbonation (the bubbles or fizz) in it. If you stir the drink heavily, the carbonation (fizz) is released. Imagine opening a can of Coke or Pepsi, then letting it sit for 1 day. When you drink it after letting it sit for a long time, you'll notice that it doesn't have that "kick" that a freshly opened Coke Or Pepsi has.
I agree the bad comments are stupid. I made this and it is great. So any haters here are just plain ignorant and don't want to acknowledge a great recipe. Keep spreading the mojito gospel, Eben.

Aren't you first supposed to muddle the lime (rinds and all) with the sugar, to get as much oil out of the lime skins? Or am I confusing this with the caipirinha?
changtuber 9 months ago
@changtuber

I do it a bit differently:
1. Take glass
2. Add 6 small lime wedges and simple syrup
3. Muddle the limes and syrup
4. Fill 50% of glass with crushed ice
5. Add mint leaves (just tap them a bit with your hands to release a bit of the flavour)
6. Stir gently and pull upwards to get limes and mint leaves all around the glass and not just at the bottom
7. Add rum and fill up with crushed ice, stir gently again
8. Top with soda and add mint sprig
9. Enjoy!
