  • Lee... I do, I do, I do... Love You... "...my sweethearrrttt..." Thanks for this Beautiful Contribution.

  • She made music fun. Love her.......

  • I like this,so nice to hear.

  • What a gorgeous, graceful mouth!

  • Lee Morse did not write this song. As lovely as it is, The song was originally called "Deja" & the music was written by Elie Aivaz & original French lyrics by Jean Lenoir in 1927. The English lyrics were supplied by Dolly Morse (1st woman to hold an ASCAP card) in 1929.

Jimmie Noone recorded a great version as a fox trot a couple months after Lee recorded her's. Carlos Gardel also did a great version of the original 'Deja'.

  • @hobojazz In addition the opening lines "Nightshades are falling, my heart is calling..." undeniably is related to the lines in the song My Blue Heaven "Nightshades are falling, love birds are calling" made popular by Gene Austin... I wonder, was it lifted? Or unintentional? Either way I love hearing interconnected songs.

  • Lee certainly was a unique persona in singing and looks. I keep thinking from hearing her recordings that Tiny Tim! must have borrowed his singing voice from her (he was a big collector of old time singers records). The photo of Lee at 1:05 looks a lot like Piaf.

  • what a voice !!!!!!

  • Wonderful song!!!

  • Beautifully sung. And great job on the video. Five stars!

  • LOVELY !

  • the world needs another tiny tim to bring this wonderful music to the kids.

  • I had a 13 pc Sweet Band in 1977. We played an AFof M Benefit w/other Acts in Everett WA. This old guy came up to the band stand and asked if he could play w/ us (we did old Standard Fox-Trots and Waltzes). I sd sure go ahead, great! btw he said my name's John Cali, What's You'rs sonny? I was floored. He was one of Morses Blue Grass Boys. He played both Banjo and Guitar. the other groups were allowed two numbers we played four to a standing house. What a Memory to have!!!

  • hello ian, nice to read you here in "you tube". as I wrote in your homepage some time ago I am a great great fan of lee. this great slideshow of some of her photos shows the different faces of lee. she really was a beauty (a little bit too tall I think) and she was such a great singer. I love her voice and the little yodeling we can hear in some of her songs. that's the reason because I collect her records and I've got them nearly complete. thanks, ian, for this nice fotoshow. regards, andrea

  • Hi Flapperette - my name is actually Rex, but I know Ian quite well and just had to do the slideshow for the lovely Lee Morse. Ian's enthusiasm is catching!

  • If I had to pick one song to sum up Miss Morse, this would be it. Her feelings ran especially deep, and to me, this is Pure Lee; her composition, and reveals the kind of person she was. This has always been a wonderful photo-montage-thing, and I've seen it a lot. It's a tune that never grows old.

  • You are right on target. For those of us who appreciate this great but unfortunately too little remembered talent, this song sums up this petite lady with a unique and marvelous voice. Bravo!

  • she looks so different in each photo. Her voice is such a surprise and from her photos I would never suspect such a unique, superb voice to come from her. There's no categorizing her. She is one of kind, a genius, and genii, as a composer, and singer of her songs and of other's songs as well. What a delightful miracle she is.

  • This is really a gorgeous slideshow, and such a moving tribute to this genious vocalist. Thanks so much for your wonderful video response.

  • Attention Lee Morse fans! We need to raise a small amount of money before 01.09.08 in order to save Lee's childhood performance venue, the Kooskia Opera House. Please visit SaveTheOperaHouse dotcom and consider a small $5 donation. Remember, Lee pledged to give you her last five dollars back in 1931 when she recorded "I've Got Five Dollars" Here's your golden opportunity to finally return the favor!
