  • My '54 is healthy as a horse with original transformers

  • NICE

  • great sound!

  • Very organic, fat and creamy tone *****

This amp mod is awesome, great job !

    Good player too : )

    GM

  • I've been playing through a CLARK tweed deluxe ( Beaufort) for the last five years,

it's hands down the best amp I've ever owned. The tone is insane,I play an ES-137

and telecasters through it. The ES sounds pretty much the same as this 335 the Tele's

well they sound like Tele's, I use some reverb sometimes, and a Tube Screamer when I want to be really dirty. I LOVE THIS AMP!!!!!!!!!

  • THIS is the Billy Gibbons / ZZ Top tone!! Brown Sugar baby!!

  • just fantastic crunch

  • She, a babe!, looks like she's never been kissed!

  • cool mic! no doubt about that.

i think you needed a little bit of reverb on that tone

  • So, basically, what you're saying is it's not a Fender Tweed....

  • @danakerman No it's made by Clark amplification, I have the same amp, it's one killer little amp.!

  • Oh. My. God...the TONE!!!!

Seriously, that sounds amazing. I must get one.

  • seriously, if you want a 5e3 to sound like this guy, then get an 18watt.

  • @000steelandstone000 Or just crank it...

  • @slpplexi1969 ???

Do you even own a 5e3?

  • I hope it's because of bad recording gear, but this sounds nothing like a vintage tweed deluxe. Way to distorted, I guess you could nudge it up a notch with a new set of tubes.

  • @perfuzz Dude, you propably never heard Neil Young :D

  • Sweet dude.

  • that sounds almost perfect

  • Most tweed Deluxes are raspy, splattery sounding little noise boxes. The problem is the concertina phase splitter, which is the same used the bf and sf Princeton -- another nasty sounding little amp (talking overdrive tones here, the clean tones are fantastic). I've gotten to the point where I avoid anything with a concertina. I've read you can make them sound good by adding grid stopper resistors on the output tubes but haven't tried it.

  • If you crank a tweed deluxe, the distortion is beautiful..However if the touch is to aggressive, the splatty, raspy thing happens. And thats why I love them;smooth tube overdrive or raspy filth, just by using, pick dynamics{think billy gibbons}.This is where the term, touch sensitive, earned its wide use, describing the vowel like swells you get as the circuit smolders and sweats.Constantly playing hard on a tweed; not good

  • @theHugginser

Sorry man, the overdrive is awful, though you might say awful in a good way. The outro section of Cinnamon Girl is the perfect example of tweed tone -- when Neil Young hits that last note and lets it ring out, it is pure nastiness, the polar opposite of pleasing, burnished tone. The rest of the band is silent so you can hear it in its fully glory. Flonnnnnfffffffzzzzt. But if you like riding that raggedy edge, it can be a fun amp. Definitely expressive.

  • @1Doz The best part about these amps is that if you pick very lightly, you can still get clean sounds when the amp is cranked to 12. But then you can pick a little harder and sound like Joe Walsh. And even harder and you get the nasty (in a good way) Neil Young sound. Plus the volume controls working together so you can have more or less distortion. And 4 inputs, so even more distortion control and there's a tone control. Very versatile amps.

  • I like the vintage ones... creamier

  • Vintage Deluxes are over 5K these days and reportedly plagued by blown (undersized) output transformers. Better, for me at least, to build my own and not worry about pushing it.

  • Hi, what mods did you do to the circuit?

  • Hi, please visit the site for more info about the amp.

  • Hey man, I DID visit your page...that's why I'm asking? You're page was kind of all over the place...and "implied" the possibility of several mods. Which one(s) here? Low pass filter mod?....gain boost? ...more head room? etc.

  • As listed in the description for this video: Ampeg mod & low-pass mod.

  • Sorry man, guess I should have clicked the "more info" tab:) I do like the amp!

I get the "low pass mod"....but what does the "Ampeg mod" do for the circuit?

  • The Ampeg mod is a voltage divider off the B+ rail that sets the inverter bias. Ampeg used it in a few amps in the old days. For me, the amp overdrives smoother with the mod. (The Deluxe circuit can sometimes sound a bit ragged when pushed.)

  • I've noticed that some tweeds do sound a bit on the rough/crunch side when push.

    Thanks for the info:)

  • Hi, what mods did you do to the circuit?

  • Really nice tone you got there.

  • Yum...

  • such sweet creamy tone!

  • absolutely loved the tone!!!!

  • Nice demo...no talking.

5e3+Celestion Blue+humbuckers+CHORDS ='s demo WAY WAY better than those strat "blues" riffs demos.

A CB equipped 5e3 through buckers is tone to contend with.Nice and fat...would love to here some brighter HB's such as TV Jones.

    Thanks

  • Hey man if you ever want to sell your amp drop me a line.

  • Hey man, awesome tone! What model /year amp are you using?

  • Thanks. I built the amp - it's a Tweed Deluxe clone, with a few mods. Visit recproaudio for more info, if you're interested.

  • hey, what song are you playing around 22 seconds i recognise it but cant put my thumb on it.

  • Misty Mountain Hop

  • Frampton! Nice choice to show off the gear.

  • sweet tone.
