If "Hillbilly Ray" is going to make an inept attempt to cover an Irish icons tunes...he should collaborate with Nigel Tufnel and do a tour of the south...where all the "thinkers" will eat it up like candy!!!
@radiosandclocks Yeah having no talent and a low IQ gets you the fastest selling number one record of all time and makes you a millionaire. Sounds good to me. Where's your music?
@wildhorsestudios1421 Yup...the Monkees sure proved that (don't need talent to sell records)!!!! Not to mention all the similar insipid acts that each decade has brought us! Ironic what the masses will spend money on isn't it? I remember hearing George Strait say that achey breakey was an "imbecile's anthem"! Pretty funny huh?
@radiosandclocks The Monkee's success was based on the song writing talent's of Boyce and Hart as well as some of the worlds top notch studio musician's... Glen Cambell, James Burton, Hal Blaine and many more. Nesbith and Tork proved to be fairly talented musicians and songwriters as well. Dolenz and Jones were excellent vocalists but lacking in musical talent. I find it doubtful and below George Strait to put down other musicians. Smart gets your daughter a multi million dollar deal.
@wildhorsestudios1421 ahh...the basics!!! Dig hearing the basics and common knowledge!!! B&H...what song writers! Where would Rob be without them! lol
The monkees are only one example...the point is, there is no correlation between selling records and talent as you claimed there is...you've been misinformed. If for a second you think the billy ray's (father and daughter) have talent or intellect...think harder!
@wildhorsestudios1421 Let's show only the ones who might appreciate it and leave the "world" (of rim-rod commercial pop lovers) that you are so fond of to your talents! While opening and performing with/for Joan Jett, Robert Cray, TP, Norton Buffalo, Steven Stills, Greg Kihn band, and numerous others...the world I am familiar has seen enough of my talents. You enjoy your Hillbilly Ray...he makes these records specifically for you!=) My hat is off to the buffoons that buy this shit...always has!
@radiosandclocks As for your sound (for lack of a better word)? Common, meaningless, insipid shit I've heard up and down this west coast for 40 years. "Yawn" in other words! Your "inspirations" or "influences"...comical and disconcerting! Your line "you don't want to know"...pompus and asinine yet "hillbilly" in image...as I'm sure you prefer to uphold.
@wildhorsestudios1421 doesn't matter if I know what ya do or not. I must say though, we normally see a "if I tell you I'll have to kill you" following the line "you don't wanna know"!
@wildhorsestudios1421 "let's see it"? Now Dude, if I drive over to the ex's just to dig through the boxes of old shit looking for pics and demos of the period I am least proud of...wouldn't I look foolish? Plus, digging up that shit for the sole purpose of a pissing contest would only make me look as a big a fool as the one requesting it.
Something you may or may not be aware of is that our greatest (respected) music critics are writers and appreciators of good music and not musicians.
@wildhorsestudios1421 "let's show the world"? You have me confused with some other guy who has been jerking you around. Sorry...it wasn't me. I've given you a listen though...just out of fairness. Now listen close here...although all music is subjective and we are all entitled to our own taste, there is a definitive shit list! In the country music genre...billy ray tops the list! In fact he was literally the laugh of Nashville during his debut years.
@wildhorsestudios1421 I see no peers...feel no pressure. We have no parallels...nothing in common. Even at the times I was stuck doing country music, we had nothing in common. As for appreciating all forms of music, that's fine. I feel critique is necessary, as most critics do. You know, Elvis was a huge critic! It's cool though that you don't critisize. It's also cool that you are only willing to critisize the one's who critisize. There's some hypocrisy there and it's a bit chickenshit but ok.
@wildhorsestudios1421 As for George, I don't believe he'd call billy ray a musician. Oh! If you hang with George at his roping arena on a Saturday afternoon... you'd be surprised at what you'd hear him say. He may seem humble to all of you out there in TV land, but when he's around his team roping buddies, you'll see a different George. Don't forget, the man is a Nam vet and a bona fide rodeo cowboy, he's not going to conform 24/7
The difference between jazz and rock...an oldie but a goodie!
@radiosandclocks You know the difference between Rock n Roll and Jazz? Rock n Roll is 3 chords played to 10,000 people. Jazz is 10,000 chords played to 3 people.
