All people want to live, it is the unstoppable downward trajectory of their disease that causes the decline that ultimately results in their death. Many times the treatment speeds up the downward trajectory towards death because their bodies have no reserve to handle the treatment being given. That is where education is important so that the patient can make an informed decision...everyone has a choice, we just don't always have the information we need to make an informed decision.
Perhaps if he had said he was going to pull the plug on grandma, grandmas all around the country hooked up to life support machines would have heard that and popped back up to life...

I certainly would want someone to pull the plug on me if I were a vegetable. That is no way to live.
