  • No "Game Over" sound?

  • I wish I can play the original... Do they have these at Chuck E. Cheese?

  • when is 4 to 7 years old it was my first game on PC in ma lyf!! :D

  • Look at the speed of the Mountain course :D

  • I must of spent hundreds of hours on my Saturn. Fucking awesome games it had.

  • I miss my childhood :(

  • In the arcades I could beat this with all perfect laps, never varying by more than a tenth or two. Girls wanted to be with me, and lads wanted to be like me. I was a Driving God! Richard Hammond wasn't, but I was.

  • You do know that this was developed in association with lancia and toyota, they had to go to toyota city, cologne, and turin, in order to get car dynamics. so if you win this game at the arcade. you can parcipitate in the WRC!!!

  • VERY LONG EASY RIGHT..... MAYBE>>>

  • I must have spent nine thousand quid in the arcade tryin to complete this. even with the 'gearstick' cheat still no joy! nice upload tho thx for the memories

  • is it possible to get first place on the second track

  • @NAPREDATOR For some reason, the game restricts you to only passing 6 cars per track. So the best you can do on Desert is 9th, Forest is 3rd (I've seen 2nd, but I've never managed that on my 100+ runs through the game), and Mountain is 1st.

  • I'm surprised nobody said "GAME OVER YEAHHHHHH!!" yet.

  • On the ranking sheet, POO is number 2. Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!

  • at 0:15 what's with the IEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?

  • @conarunleashed It's RALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLY!

  • Try ChampionShip Time decrese.

    my best time 3:28

  • the rally cars are the most beatifull cars in the world and i love the rally races

  • Love the music of this game...have it on my ipod :)

  • @alenight85

yeah thats something that the saturn succeeded in,they did a pretty good port for saturn only graphically saturn version lacks a bit.the model 2 is one beast of a machine,it takes both psx and n64 out with it's bare hands.when you've seen manx tt you'lle know that that is impossible on any home console of that time.

  • oh my god! another fucking classic game!!! ARGH! DAMN! i like the other car though... the one which has Martini Racing or something...

  • omgggg how do i remember this so well.. i was 4!

  • Comment removed

  • This was released in Japan on the PS2. Puts the Saturn and PC version to shame. Looks a lot better, no loading times, better music, faster. Shame about SEGA Rally 2006 though (Japan only), as it was cack.

  • on the coin up version pros were meeting the helicopter above the car

  • 0-200 in 3.30secs on dirt , not bad on physics

  • This game was awesome back on it's day. And nowadays too. The only think I don't understand is why did they put a castrol instead of the corolla, the official rally car of Toyota. But hey! I love the castroll too.

  • @xxmago LMAO. Castrol is a type of motor oil man...For the record, Toyota's official rally car was the Toyota Celica All-trac Turbo, also known as the Celica GT4. It was never a Corolla.

  • the music is better on the saturn version

  • you can easily strip off some seconds if you knew how to take corners

in to out (to keep speed only)

  • @stealthy17

i agree. on the saturn version. i used to get within millimetres of the corner apexs to shave time off my laps.

  • your finis hahaha

  • theres a full two-seater arcade machine of this on ebay at the moment its at £130 im so tempted to buy it i got nowhere to put it lol but i want it now this is a good game

  • Do it in manual and you'll get a better time, keep the traction through the longer bends, sliding means you're losing time.

  • @SakuraChao how did you get into my recent history?

  • This game was the shee-ot when it came out on Saturn. It made the system worth owning.

  • you almost finished it

  • better than need for speed

  • @Frickis you got that right dude! These 3 tracks made me play a fucking lot more than any NFS post Hot Pursuit II

  • I remember always being annoyed that I could never overtake the chopper at the end of the first stage lol

  • sega created crack with this game.

  • For the time, this game was untouchable. Don't think I ever played a racer that handled this gorgeously

  • Comment removed

  • @screwattackeurope it is easy to complete lakeside.

  • sakura chao loves this game!!

  • @binnieb20 No I don't!! I've never heard of it!! >:(

  • Is it physically even possible to beat Lakeside?

  • This came packaged with SEGA Rally 2006 on the PS2 which was only released in Japan. The best console conversion by far (even better than the PC version).

  • I'd love the old arcade cabinet. The only game I was ever good at.

  • this was the first game i got. i remember completing it many times because i thought i could win new vehicles

  • Damn! One second left in the mountain stage and you still made it! You got boss skills man...boss!

  • I got a 3:24:77 on the arcade celica MT

  • ii would to get a sega saturn and play on all the old games they were the best

  • I love SEGA RALLY Championship.

  • This is pretty good, but not near flawless at all. You slowed down on the forest track for example. And plenty of mistakes. And auto, of course. If you want max speed, it's full throttle the first three tracks, except for one corner in the mountain track that you do slow down just a bit, and then the lake side where it takes plenty of skill do to do some good times there. I remember doing something like 10m50s on the large rally version (three laps), but that was on the Saturn. Awesome stuff.

  • I had this on Sega Saturn. Ahh the good ol' days!

  • You were mad in those first three stages!!

But it's sad that you ran out out your time at the last corner...

  • I think I remember this game when I was a kid. Nice driving though!

  • It reminds me of my chilhood!!

  • The Dreamcast version was best.

  • @DocWolph Dreamcast's Sega Rally 2 was inferior to the arcade original. Especially the graphics were laughable.

  • @JedahGR07 Then I doubt you ever actually played both or saw both. You do know that half of SRA is tuning your car, right. if you though t is sucked you obviously did not tune your car. Lots of folks call anything they suck at inferior or lousy. But the real point of the game is to improve your time not beat your brains out trying to beat it at all. BTW that was over 12 years ago. Console graphics never matched up to arcade graphics back then.

  • @DocWolph Please do not jump into conclusions. I did not say it sucked, I said that the experience was inferior due to presentation. To be more clear, imagine a GameBoy version of the game with the same extra options you refer to. Could this version be comparable to the Model 3 one? Of course not. Back in 2000 I played SR2 every day on the arcade and when I bought the Dreamcast and PC versions I was very disappointed, even though I played them for a long time.

  • @JedahGR07 Same goes for the Sega Saturn port of the original. Ebjoyable but far worse in presentation.

  • @JedahGR07 The Dreamcast was actually about as powerful as Model 3 which ran Sega rally 2. This was amazing considering the price the Dreamcast was. Sloppy programming was one of the main reasons for any difference.

  • @ojideagu The Model 3 board shows in 2 games (Sega Rally 2 and Virtua Fighter 3) that it was a superior machine, especially in graphics. If you don't believe me just do some research on the specs and contact people knowing the hardware well, like emulation programmers. The Dreamcast was ace in its time, but it was not in par with SEGA's best arcade machines, just like every console. The tide turned around of course, as the arcade market was starting to find ways to reduce the manufacturing cost.

  • @JedahGR07 On paper If you compare the specs of the Dreamcast it could handle more polygons then Model 3 and the Dreamcast had twice as much video memory, and a faster processor. Dreamcast was 200mhz Model 3 was 166 mhz. The people who made Sega rally 2 and Virtua Fighter did not do the conversion so it wasn't perfect.

Also consider the Dreamcast cost $250 and the Model 3 cost over $10,000 or so when it came out.

  • @JedahGR07 The Sega Naomi Arcade which far exceeded Model 3 was literally just a Dreamcast with more memory.

That's how powerful the Dreamcast was.

  • @JedahGR07 Check out the Sega Naomi, it IS a Dreamcast with double the memory. It blows Model 3 away.

  • @DocWolph Actually the Dreamcast was almost as powerful, as Model 3 hardware which ran Sega Rally 2. In some ways it was more powerful, it had more memory. The games were just difficult to convert.

Considering the price of the Dreamcast that was amazing.

  • 0:15

"this game is to be used only in Japan"

    LOL

  • @K9Underdogg i played the arcade yesterday, and i live in Bulgaria. :3

  • No no no!! Not the emulator version here!! This is PS2 version!!

The opponent cars dont jump around on this version like they do on Nebula.

  • This isnt the Nebula emulator. This is the PS2 version.

Do you race online with Daytona? If youre up for some racing sometime im always looking for other Daytona racers on Nebula emulator :)

  • LONG EASY RIGHT MAYBE!

  • @DJFITTA is that what he was really saying? I could never figure it out

  • @DJFITTA Haha me and my sister were adamant it said Baby lol!! Though not good when he doesn't know whats coming up lol! Thanks though for clearing that up for us!!

God I fraking love this game

  • so is this arcade perfect version

  • I just got 3:25.22 run on this arcade version. I was so proud of myself lol.

I have the Saturn version coming in the mail any day now.

  • NICE ON!

  • anyone know where i can download this for pc?

i tried all the torrent sites but no joy

  • Edge Emulation. Then use the Nebula emulator. It will play it about the same as this, but itll also play Daytona USA and many other Model 2 arcade games.

  • feeee-nish-sh-sh

  • Fuck happened to the music? Did they make it in MIDI or something?

  • It's the original music from the 1994 arcade release.

  • GAME OVER YEEEEEEEAH!

  • This is the arcade version running on a PS2. It was only released in Japan with Sega Rally 2006. This isn't running on a PC or any other console.

  • I had Sega Rally 2006 when I had a Japanese PS2 a few years back. It wasn't all that good to be honest. It was only released in Japan and there was 2 versions, one came with the arcade version of Sega Rally. Compared to the Saturn version, It's faster, better sound, no loading times and obviously better graphics.

  • i prefer the saturn one,if there wasn't a saturn version then we would have missed out some awesome music.yes the arcade one if faster and looks better but i rather pay like 10 euro's for a game then 1200 for the cabinet or 100+ euro for a ps2 inc sega rally.i only play sega on a sega console.

  • @aryinc I understand your sentimentality but your missing out on a lot of good Sega games that are either superior to the Sega console versions or just plain were never released on them.

PS You can get a Sega Rally cab for a LOT less that 1200 euros now :-)

  • i think the saturn version does wel enough,i also prefer the neo geo cd versions/saturn version of king of fighters above the cart version why? because the music was a hell of allot better on cd the cart music of king of fighters was almost to damn scratchy maybe even worse then some genesis games.but no thatnx i've got no room for a cab, altought i'd love to have some cabinets like daytone, battletoads, rad mobile etc insane arcade goodness.emulation just is'nt the same as the real deal.

  • You mustve had a cheaper NEO-GEO console if that is the case, ive got KOF 94 through to 98 on my MVS and the sound is perfectly clear.

Sure the sound was better on the NEO CD version, but not that much better. Scratchy sound on a NEO-GEO game is due to the console being the version with the cheaper sound chips.

Still got mine and sound is always perfect.

  • offcourse,nontheless it's still an awesome console.

  • is it me or is the diffrence pretty minimal tought?.and i've read somewhere that the saturn could have been a 64 console, well if that was so then this would have been spot on with ease.

  • @aryinc Dunno about that but I know though I loved the Saturn it was pretty weak against the competition. House of the Dead was a really bad port for example and Sega took a lot of flack for it. Overall the Saturn was no where near as powerful as model 2 (arcade) hardware.

64bit doesn't mean more power either. Just look at the Atari Jaguar!

  • the atari jaguar isn't really 64 bit.but i know what you're trying to say bit's don't say anything about the horsepower, itwas just a term to divide system in a generation.model 2 is way ehead of saturn i know and looks jawsome it still does but the satunr was also a very powerfull machine for it's time only would'have been nice to see model 2 games get clean ports but sega didn't cook raw eggs the saturn ports stands in it's own right as still a cheaper killer game.

  • @aryinc You can say a Jag is 64 bit or double 32, it's all the same. But I agree with everything you just said.

  • anyhow the jag was a pice of shit,Pardon my pun.with arcade releases the saturn is like of and on allot of games rocked as hard on saturn as in the arcades,no we won't have those graphics but the rest of the awesome gamplay is intact and the graphics are at least well done at times.VF2 for example may be weaker then it cabinet brother but it still teaches tekken 3 a lessen about how graphics should look like same for sega rally, nothing looks ugly in sega rally @ that time.

  • daytona was hurting on the saturn tought same for virtua racing and gale racer,my brother started to cry back in 95 when he saw the saturn version of daytone,he said can something look so misserable.

  • @aryinc remember the panasonic 3DO?? lol.

  • 3do rofl.that thing was bad,i mean really bad.the good games it had where so overhyped.i don't own that many consoles anymore i mostly have sega like almost all off them except the several types.i like making music on the moment and money as always ;).

  • why buy a ps2 for sega games? many sega games work even worser on ps2 then on a sega console esspecially the arcade games with a psx controller, nah wouldn't fit.saturns still better then ps2 when it comes to arcade.

  • @aryinc I didn't suggest buying a PS2 just for Sega games, though at the moment, I think you can pick one up for less than you'd pay for a Saturn! I don't think your really thinking about what your saying though. So I'll leave you to it!

  • Omg I played this in an arcade its so cool. I only completed Mountain on the Saturn ver. though.

One day I'll find that arcade cab again... AND BEAT MOUNTAIN!

(although the stupid operators set the damn thing to hardest, so maybe not...)

  • It's actually pretty cool... But this music sounds like midi files compared to Saturns orchestral rock, no one can deny that (It's probably the arcade music right?) Cause I remember reading back in the day that they totally changed the music for Saturn.

The wheels do that with my 3D pad on Saturn, I think it does that cause it really wants a steering wheel. But my best times are with the old fat European d-pad with fast handling settings.

    Enjoy. I'm just a Saturn bitch ;)

  • you''re not the only one who likes that system.some arcade games made up they're weaknesses one sega consoles.ffcd wasn't spot on so you'd get better music to make it still worthy.sega rally allso got better music while the graphical diffrence is just an inch and it plays spot on.daytona looked like utter crap tought compared to arcade dunno how the cce one it.and so on.

  • are you sure this is for the saturn? it the graphics look about the same, but the music is competly different. those wheels are also moving like lightning

    can anyone say hax?

  • The way it moves is just not like the Saturns at all and what's up with those mad wheels?, I mean I just played the Saturn and this looks a little messed up. But hey it came for free, Butcher rally.

  • I was waiting for the "GAME OVER YEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!"

    What a let down... :(

  • Yeah, really...that's prolly the best game over music in VG history!

  • seems that the top times people get varies alot.. depending on what machine you have played. why?

  • Comment removed

  • This brings back the days of "HAIRPIN RIGHT! HAIRPIN LEFT" being spammed at me all over again :D

  • My best is 3.30.77.

  • My best time 3:07

  • how does this compare to the Dreamcast version ?

  • Eu amava este jogo .....Provavelmente terá gente que achara mentira ....mas nas duas maquinas do shopping os records do 1 ao 16 lugar , nas duas maquinas eram meus. 3.:19:05 melhor recorde e 3:22:45 o ultimo

  • i completed this in the arcade.... i unlocked lake view or what ever it is ( many years ago ) and everyone was like WTF.. haha greattt game :D

  • i love the vid bro, pretty good run.

many of you are very slow, sry lol..

i'm an ex pro at this game ~ SH (Aberystwtyth, uk).

7th fastest uk sega saturn time back in the day.

    fastest arcade time in uk.

  • Get the emulator and prove it!!

  • game over YEEEEAAAAAH

  • my best time 3:27

  • omg wow how do you do so well on hairpins? do you just stop accelerating when you brake?

  • I still think this (Model 2) is the best playing all the versions and sequels. I got this too, its great with the DFP.

  • Yeah, forest screwed your time up.

Should've used the banked areas on mountain too.

    But nice runs.

  • my best time

    3:24.17 ;)

and my friend 3:22.87 or someting like that but for sure his time is under 3:23 and he did it twice ;p

  • 3:40

    i love that U - turn.....!!!!!

    : )

  • The music on the Saturn version whips the arcade's arse! I never knew the arcade music was so shitty - awesome game though, I would play my big brother's Saturn and perfect my times in Sega Rally. Ah, to be a teenager again...

  • Wow, you're right for sure, and the voice in the SS version is way cooler...

  • Hell yeah man!!! The music for Sega Rally on Saturn is AWESOME!!!! You can actually play the disc in a normal CD player and listen to the tunes!! Especially the guitar solos.. Very sick indeed. Plenty of awesome bass and synth stuff, I think a lot of the synth stuff is also done with a guitar. Thank god someone else noticed!!!!

  • Great run dude! The only thing missing is..........

    GAME OVER YEAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!

  • Near flawless you say? ;)

Ill post my two videos as responses for ya mate :)

  • well your playing with manual, I'm a noob who plays with automatic lol

  • Yeah but they both do the exact same speed, there isnt much difference in total times!! :)

  • I almost beat this on arcade but I fuck upped the final stage. DAMN FUCKING STRICKT TIME LIMIT!!!

  • a game that can be finished in 8 minutes

  • That is about how long any racing game goes in an arcade.

  • Yup, a game that can be finished in less then 8 minutes, and can be played a million times, unlike the garbage racers of today.

  • How would a game you bought lasting 8 minutes to finish be good value for money? Racers today make this seem like the flintstones.

  • In order have this game beaten in 8 minutes you have to aquire the skills to do so - a thing which might take easily 20+ hours pure gaming time.

  • At the end of the day its shallow because its designed to make money as best as possible as quick as possible. Home games are not so are far deeper and more interesting with a lot more longevity.

  • Except they're not really, in terms of core gameplay anyway, they just have more filler, clutter to adjust for the fact people will be spending more extended spells playing them - extra gimmicks to distract people who don't want to concentrate on one specific element in a disciplined way.

Saying more modes, options and other superflous razzmatazz makes something intrinsicaly deeper, in so far as the gameplay goes, is almost like saying cheerleaders would make chess tournaments 'deeper', lol.

  • Compare the depth gran turismo, customising your car changing settings. This game doesnt even have realistic car physics its a car on ice. Sega Rally is the cheerleader, no depth air head.

  • The critical flaw in that argument is that realism does not equate to depth.

  • More tracks, more cars, better graphics, better car physics, shall I go on?

  • I already covered the fact that extra, superfluous content does not necessarily create a futhering depth in the core gameplay. The ability to buy new things with winnings I suppose gives you an illusory sense of progression, but does not make the fundamental racing values any better.

Better graphics mean more depth now? No. And in any case, you are not accounting for style.

  • The comment about physics is a subjective one too. Both aim for different feels to begin with; Sega Rally did not attempt to be realistic and fail, it tried to be a fast, intense, drift racing game and succeeded and became spectacularly influential. Just as GT succeeded in its field, yet I don't want to play it as I have no interest in plodding, sedate simulation games. GT does not offer a better version of what Sega Rally does.

  • this is the best racing game to date with amazing driving model,. I'm still playing it on my ps2, INCREDIBLE GAME!!

  • Yes we operate an old Sega rally arcade machine and it still is a favourite, just good physics and all round package. Doesn't earn as much as Daytona but still better in my opinion. Sh*its all over new driving games.

  • With one second to go!

  • It's missing the best part of SRC....

    GAME OVER, YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • BOLLOCKS

  • What, no "GAME OVER, YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"?

    Impressive run, btw

  • I have played he crap outa this game but I still turn to it when I'm bored, and yes to ever said the saturn version was better, it was but the graphics where point pixelated, nothing the saturn could of done really.

  • Best sega game ever I have original copy of it! And best Rally game ever including "need for speed" BTW this is not good as original

  • That was some good driving. Next time you'll get it.

  • saturn has superior muusic quality buut graphics are a tad down,it quit funny to hear the diffrence beetween sythesis and cd quality cool game.

  • i played this to death, then someone showed me the cheat on the arcade and it was like learning to play it all over again, the speed was lots faster, which meant you had to change everything to suit.hold the brake down, put money in,and on the car select screen,go thorugh the gears, from 1st to 2nd to 3rd to 4th...then you'll hear a noise, keep pedal pressed, and release when it shows start of first stage.you can knock 3 or 4 seconds of each stage time.

  • This trick does work and you do indeed go faster. However once you do the 1-4 gears there is no need to keep the pedal pressed.

  • Holy shit man!!!! I still have the system and the game!!! Easy Left.....Easy right!!! Such a classic to have!!!

  • Easy right!

  • finisssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeedddddddddddd!

  • this sounds like my lover during sex.lol.

  • I bet you dont even have a lover

  • So that man sounds like your boyfriend?

  • Ahhh! Sega rally also released a version on PSP.

Your 180° corner tech tackles very well!

  • that sucks.

  • That is a nice run...I only have the sega saturn version so its quite easy to complete even on hard mode....however, I am lucky enough to be able to play this in the arcade and I can never finish it!!

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • On Saturn version of this game on normal setting I did under 56secs on desert, under 1.18min on forest and just over 1.11 on mountain that gave me 85secs to start on Lakeside. I won that with about 9secs left on the counter. The Lancia Stratos was mine...

Your Desert run follows thesame lines I make just try to hug the inside of the corners a bit more (without rubbing) and that will make a great improvement in time.

  • Forest run you know what to improve. and mountain was a very good run indeed but try to pass opponents on inside of turns and that makes all the difference in overall time. Great Job on the Mountain Hairpin too thats the one turn that keeps me from improving my laptimes.

When I get the chance I'll try to upload one of my races. keep enjoying this game

  • is it better 2 slow down near corners ? good times dude...

  • I usually only tap the brakes just enough to get the car drifting. Only thing then is to keep the drift under control.
