The weight of the squirrle keeps the noose from letting lose.

Also what keeps the squirrle from walking though it is once the squirrle touches any part of the trap it freeks them out and they BOLT forward and there feet arms legs get snagged in the snare. they usely fall of the log or limb and hang themselfs. When they bolt they freek out and belive it or not they most of the time dont get out alive.

ok, this is a really bad example. not only does it tighten when the squirrel or rabbit runs through it. it loosens just as easily. so unless it is killed upon impact, the likelihood is that it will get away.

i have caught several rabbits with this style of snare. you have to have a really well used trail to show results though. this will not work with anything bigger than a rabbit. u need a cable snare for anything bigger like a coon.

you can use 22 to 26 guage wire and u do what this guy did and put it on a well used path. try to find the narrowest part of the trail. you can also use boughten 1/16 cable snair.

No Offense or anything but animals are not as dumb as some people might think, that's why when people go hunting its called hunting not shooting. It takes some disguising and enticement for any animal to get caught in any trap and a squirrel running across a log is not quiet the ticket. Do yourself a favor and if you really feel like you need to trap some squirrels check your local laws and go out and buy some professionally made traps that are specifically designed for this purpose.

@waterfowler1229 if you have a snare like the one in the video on a rabbit trail, or rabbit path then they get caught on it, rabbits arent going to stop and notice a tiny piece of wire, it works with squirrels too, and actual hunting is not sitting in a blind or in camo all day waiting for an animal to walk by so you can shoot it, real hunting is tracking it down, sneaking up on it not sitting in a tree

Sounds like you enjoy stalking, good for you. I enjoy fair chase bow hunting and waterfowling, its trying to beat the animal at their own game, whether through decoys, calls, ect. @xxxxsevakxxxx hard ware store im a licenced trapper for squirrels use 22g-24g brass or stainless single strand wire for rabbit you can either go to 20-22g brass/stainless if you want to use a single strand type snare or use 3-4 strands or more of a finer wire and wist them together to form a braided wire
