it's a bit of both at this point; the rest of the basalt has fallen away, leaving only this column which is connected to the pedestal, but at a certain angle, you can see light shining through where the column and pedestal meet, so it's not even a solid-through connection. locals have tried to pull it over with their boats, with no success (thankfully).
ahh its such a tough hike in the hot sun!! but well worth it :)

Is it really balancing or has it eroded around it? Either way, it is really cool and I'll try to check it out sometime...
