  • Pretty interesting although I think I like Mighty Mouse better. But all the elements are here. I wonder when Terrytoons started doing the operatics, and if it all came from Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy. It really added something to most, if not all, of the Terrytoons they used it in.

I never even heard of Barker Bill, I was a stone Sheriff John Lunch Brigade fan, and rode my bike home from school at lunchtime to watch it. In LA in the early 50s. Bill was maybe network ?

  • "BARKER BILL'S CARTOON SHOW" was a twice-weekly quarter-hour afternoon series on CBS [Wednesdays/Fridays, 5-5:15pm(et)] beginning in January 1954... and, for a time, was #1 in its time period...until ABC's "MICKEY MOUSE CLUB" appeared opposite it in October 1955, knocking it off the air that November. This TV print was originally seen on the syndicated "FARMER ALFALFA AND HIS TERRYTOON PALS" in 1958.

  • Finally, a Fanny Zilch cartoon.

  • the music at the start was "His name is Barker Bill"; Barker Bill was the name of the TV show that played these weird pre-1940 Terrytoons, most of them having to do with Fanny (note innuendo) Oil Can Harry (an "oily" person is someone who's nice to gain favor so he can take advantage), and One Gun Harry, the Swedish looking guy and his horse.

  • @diddymuck Barker Bill was one of Television's first kid shows, circa 1955 to 1958. It was famous for having an animated intro and having a 45 rpm kids record of the theme song.
