@theavenger881 They're not better in this meaning but since it's a desktop it can handle greater specs. Macbookpro 17" has a spec as good as a professional desktop today. So you have to ask yourself: do I need a portable computer and can I afford it?

Remember: the standard iMac starts at U$ 1,199.00 and so do MacbookPros but the macbook pro with equal specs as the standard iMac is the MacbookPro 15" due to its graphics card and not the processor which is better (i5 vs i7) for U$ 1,799.00.

I love the hardware but still I hate the arrogant closed ears mentality of the company. If only they would listen to what people want as well as thinking up our future for us based on what they think we will want to use and buy. You know made in China means cheaper prices. If I am paying premeum prices the least I would expect is for the stuff to be made in the west. Also, When are we going to be able to drag files off the desk top screen straight on to the ipad just like they did in Avatar?

Today instead of dual boot i use oracle virtualbox for fedora inside single boot win 7 ultimate, it didnt cost me too much & also i made it my gaming rig by adding my own selective hardware & thats called freedom which win and linux gives. BTW, just saying windows crashes all time will not gonna save apple's ass. In my almost 1n1/2 year of win 7 usage i never see it getting crash even running multiple DSP apps.

@Megapead I scorned Apple till they went to Unix and Intel. I tried BSD et al but on the PC it was a bit of a science project, on the Mac it's pretty well sorted. As far as hardware price differences, Mac uses more Aluminum and Silica alloys versus plastic, and 'A' batch chips so it costs a bit more than a HP.

I like the Jon Ives engineering effort and fit and finish.

@papwalker99 you can look at the 2010 macbook it was $999 for a dual core Processor and 2gb of ram with a option of a ram upgrade to 4gb. It had a plastic finishing. My Sony VAIO on the other hand was still 2010 but had a Quad core i3 (I have no idea why this i3 is quad core) shipped with 4gb 500gb HDD and Windowss 7 Home premium 64bit. for a price of $732 and it a very high quality finishing on it not Aluminum I don't know wat the finishing is but it's not plastic. Over priced see.
