  • This song reminds me of Buddy Holly.

  • Never ever tire of listening to the La's few songs that they did-the closest ANYONE has ever gotten to the Beatles in my humble opinion-thanks la

  • The la's would have been massive it lee wasn;t such a perfectionist. He hated the album (sound wise) which is why they released it so many time, and remastered it etc. Also he refused to used any equipment that wasnt made before the 60's.....he was brilliant thought, and true music fans acknoledge and love him.

  • Son Of A Gun owes its best elements to A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You and Last Train To Clarksville by The Monkees.

  • Brilliant stuff! I saw them at the Marquee Club in '91, unforgettable concert!

  • i have dreamed of footage like this and now i see it. internet u have your downside but now and again you do this.

  • brilliant, not quite skiffle, not quite britpop, somethings are better in the inbetween.

  • if it wasn't for the Las Noel gallagher would have spent the 90s giving blowjobs for crack.

  • @ev11 How has Oasis's success got anything to do with the La's? Although I think the La's are way more talented. I have always hated Oasis's tunes.

  • @kesh2212 Oasis is the best band ever

  • @DannyMadFerIt LMAO that is funny, that is too funny

  • They're all songs are like super good

  • lmfao skip to 2:26 and watch when he says DERRRR SHE GOESSS.... so funny...

  • @gibsonpaul0 Is it? Is that funny? Shit mate I must have missed something. All bells have ends. You yourself however have been as progressive as the great Scott himself and personally reached in your own right the status of the ultimate bellend. Well done. LMFAOAU.

  • they shud of been more known :P

  • One of my favourite bands of all time. One album, only one bloody album.....

  • I love how Lee's chewing gum the whole time, flippin badass

  • The La's is maybe the most underrated band of all times

  • @DannyMadFerIt A little wide of the mark. The band was lets be honest shite, maybe apart from Power. Mavers could have graced any outfit however, truly great as he was.

  • @bigbeef30 mate if you think the members of the la's mavers n power excepted, were shite musicians thats just ridiculous, some brilliant musicians played in the la's, power was the least accomplished of the lot

  • @DannyMadFerIt They only had one record dude and they've been re-releasing it every three years or so. A hidden gem, maybe, underrated? Nah..

  • AMAZING!

  • Perfection!

  • What a voice lee had, all gone down the swanny now though.. such a shame!!

  • Are they playing live here or miming to one of the many studio versions made of these songs?

  • loved em back in the day... 90ish was a good time to be from liverpool.

  • @FeNsTa Too true. Shame I got into the club scene and not the bands that were under my nose. Saying that the club scene in Liverpool was just about the best in the land also at that time with some of the most diverse club music all within yards of each other. Stems from the beatles maybe....?

  • The La's ffs what an album - I used to wear the drum logo t-shirt for pe in about 1990. Lee Mavers was one of the best writers / singers Britain ever produced - and a massively over looked guitar player - the album is nearly all him. He burned out but he burned so fucking bright.

  • Just a sound tech's dream. 'There she goes' in this vid is one of the greatest live vocal peformances. What sheer talent.

  • We're not english we are scouse!

  • amazing to see the LAS again after all these years still doing it for me>>>>big shout to the HUYTON posse who introduced me to this band......TONY DAVIES, JIMMY JACKO BIGCAMMY AND JOHN SHARPE................not forgotten LA ............FAE SAMBO LA.......

  • rocking horse sh!t

  • What a bummer i missed seeing these boys in their prime. two gems

  • my fave of the UK groups from that time ... such great songs .

  • fuckin class !!

  • You folks are very easily amused...... good grief.

  • @aerosmith9984 LOL. sure thing buddy.

  • @aerosmith9984 this from an aerosmith fan. If you don't like music, that's a great band to follow.

  • Best acoustic song I think I have ever heard.

  • I love the tuning of the drums and bass. superb. I had a look at this to see if I could learn to play "son of a gun" on guitar. (!!!) wow. I woudn't want to butcher it!

  • Wow! Scousers you can like!

  • Mavers. You fucking genius.

  • lee looks like he's on strings like one of the thinderbirds 0:54 lol. great band sadly only short lived.

  • Liverpool needs to bottle their tap water and sell it to the kids making music these days. It would save the world, or at least give it a shot of timeless, well written pop music.

  • oasis are a great band who captured the culture, fashion, and feeling of the time. they make good songs but in no way have they ever made a song as perfect as there she goes? noels debut album was an amazing piece of work but if you take them song by song would you swap ciggarettes and alcohol for liberty ship? or live forever for there she goes? or married with children for son of a gun etc etc? live forever might make the grade as an album track but as debut albums go the la's are the best.

  • a genius by defenition is inevitably floored! this guy is a genius! there is no question but what he see's as his morals and principals about the first album release are infact getting in the way of releasing an album that has 20 years of built up songs to go on it! if i won the lottory tomorrow i would pay for all the studio time this guy needed until he did get it right, if his first album in his mind was bad then i would love to hear one he thinks is ok :-)

  • The tin can alley that ensues behind this is just woeful. The vocals however are utterly sublime. Lee was ahead of the band, ahead of time and unfortunately ahead of himself. Oasis fed off his demise. You never got the credit you deserved.....

  • 'Der she goz aganne'...., top Scouse accent, go Mavers lad

  • arigato

I listened this album many times.

  • They had a very iconic sound.

  • rare singer that sounds EXACTLY the same live as on the album

  • guns and roses

  • hmm very nice skiffle feel to it all

  • The La's - My top "One Album Wonder"...

  • @musicmann1967

At 43 years of age.... this is also my fave album ever. My 8 year old daughter loves it and I have never pushed it on her. It seems that beauty and genius will out....

  • @Doobeydoobeydont

Your daughter has great taste in music!

  • @Doobeydoobeydont

I loved There She goes from when I heard it on Fever Pitch aged 10 or 11, I'm 21 now and just no that no one will ever match Lee's genius.

  • brilliant!

  • the la's are fucking amazing

  • Lee what the hell are you doing now? why aren't you bigger than jesus, the beatles, satan, sky tv,rosanne barr and many other things i can't think of right now???? the most perfect pop tune ever recorded earns you a pitance compared to what you should have in the bank!!! i love oasis but please come back and show them how it should have been done!!!!

  • folk rock at its very best....i dont think John had started shavin when this was on tv.

  • What a fucking beast.

  • Genius

  • Genius no other word can describe it!!!!! one of the greatest albums ever made.

  • Mavers was brilliant. But Lennon/McCartney? You're high.

  • @Chomsky66

High? I'm talking vocals!! The beatles are and will always be untouched in what they achieved as an outfit. With Lennon's raw poetry and feel for the 'peoples mind' accompanied by Macca's extensive musical talent they were the ultimate.

I would edge my bets that either one of them would have welcomed Lee's vocals into any of their tracks. He was a talented scouser, so were they.....

  • Tell me when the vocals to a track as difficult as 'there she goes' have been sung live to the exact spec of the studio release. This is trully amazing. To compare Lee's vocal talent to Lennon or McCartney would not be unjustified. What a talent.

  • i agree, amazin version mate, but check the deluxe edition mike hedges album version...enjoy n let me know wot you think.sheps(swansea)

  • @bigbeef30 I absolutely agree, Mavers voice has that angelic, yet almost harsh and raw tone very similar to Lennon, Brian Wilson etc and easily just as good.. I remember seeing this clip at the time and feeling the excitement that I'd just witnessed the birth of a band on TV that were going to be as big as The Beatles. Sadly it was never to be.

  • @panfart Definately, the way his life panned out you could say he missed out. The truth is we all missed out on what could have been great. He still left us with some memorable tracks though....

  • this is how music shud be made

  • Gotta love the Scouse accent. instead of purgatory at around 0:20 its PAHHHHgatory

  • neil mavers. he luks so quiety. -.-

  • mavers what a voice

  • i have no proof. help. PISCES!!! LOLS DID JA SEE THAT AT THE END OF IT

  • Is this guy chewing gum while singing on tv? Talk about laid back.

  • HAH

  • I reckon Mavers looks like a Noel Gallagher, Mick Jagger Hybrid.

  • Lee Mavers=Great Voice

  • I have just discovered this band tonight. My God! They should have been a super band. The Knack? Gimme a break. This is the fifth song of the night. I can listen to this band all night long. The La's were a great - and I don't use that word often - band.

  • im 50+ hav heard 1000s of rocknroll albums/records/discs (same prolly like millions others) the las album is my favorite of all time i think it is almost a perfect serendipity coincidental once in a lifetime creation lilywhite's production mavers' compositions even his 'hating it' only makes it more beautiful i consider it on par w/ van gogh's self portrait or a once in a lifetime sunset baby's first smile
  • Never a truer word spoken! only few people have the ability mavers had/has and i think it's such a shame he doesn't let the main stream in any more?

the la's i feel would have been as talked about as the beatles by now if he had got his head down and carried on! £15000 every three months for there she goes doesn't seem that much money to me for a guy who has the tallent this bloke has!!!

  • couldnt av said it better meself mate. you gotta love the la's

  • fuckin ell what a band.

  • Run rabbit run yrasonoagun! I think so.. Wellpersonally!

  • yet another gem discovered on Youtube... this is brilliant!

  • class!!!!

  • Absolutely amazing. Wow I am floored. So stripped down and soulful.

  • his mouth resembles Skye Sweetnam's. Lee Mavers, right?

  • Ive watched this video loads of times but ive only just got onto how raw it actually sounds...unreal!

  • brd1984-legend for putting this on the youtube.

  • This is truly the best version of son of a gun i've heard.

  • Thanks for puting this up, brilliant performances of two songs from what i consider to be one of the best albums ever recorded. This band could have went on to give the world so much amazing music, wasted talent.

  • noel gallagher's got a studio, why dosent he give lee the keys and and let him do what he wants.noel owes his career to him so its the least he could do!

  • like it kid..i say i like it!

  • awesum finding this have album on lp

  • this has to be my favorite performance of "Song Of A Gun". sung to perfection

  • Noel gallagher recons he finnished what lee mavers started! well even though oasis are a great band they didn't even come close to finnishing what the la's started! maybe in time lee will have a change of heart and i will be the first in line to buy the new album? we can all hope :-)

  • I reckon they jumped in a time machine, straight outta the 60's!

  • big influence on the coral

  • Great stuff

  • I have always thought of Lee Mavers as a great tortured songwriter...Just a shame it was short lived and mostly known for 1 song

  • My favourite song on the album - and the shortest !

  • its the business....simple as...thunderous an you all know it.its up there mate..you wont top it!!!!!

  • LEE had his own style that LENNON/McARTNEY would of loved, but it don't mean LEE was born with a BEATLES wig on.

  • agree mate.

  • Heres a stunner for you, I was in a Liverpool band many years ago called Vox Arcana - We rehearsed in Vulcan Street studios on the Dock Road. On Friday nights, The La's were next door on the right and Half Man Half Buscuit were next door on the left (Unless Tranmere were at home!) We all shared Mars bars!!

  • the word genius is over used at the moment, i mean, robbie williams - genius, snoop dogg - genius etc, if this is the case im confused? i mean if they are geniuses how the hell are you gonna find a word for mavers???? gifted is an understatement! some of the best music written for 30years!!! (at the time it was written!) he is one guy that could have stood against lennon and Mc cartney at their peak........ magic stuff

  • The Beatles comparison is equally over used. EVERYONE was bigger than at some point.... or could've been bigger than the Beatles. I'm sick of the Beatles, but i'm not going to deny that they are absolutely untouchable. Do The La's a favore and stop calling Mavers a genious to rival John Lennon,Paul McCartny, or George Harrison. If you wanna say he's as good or better than Ringo i will have to say....maybe. The La's were simply a great band in their own right and not to be compared to any others.

  • no one has ever been bigger than the beatles? that is a fact! (bands, not michael jackson etc) the beatles comparison is something that is always going to be touted about! the reason! they are the benchmark! a level everyone aspires to! there is no getting away from mavers ability to write songs that are "inspired" by the beatles! my comments are ment to pay tribute!

also, better than ringo, maybe? that is a joke isn't it? no if's and's or butt's! thats not even a question!!!

  • i fully agree wi you..there's so many band's worthy of comparisons of bands like the beatles..why does nobody ever say 'they were as good as the stones,or the who,or the stone roses....and why are the small faces never included in these roll call of great bands?i absolutely love the la's,and probably own the majority of their stuff...they're all good, and for different reasons, but i think people naturally tend to say that so an so are/were the best groupever, but isn't that the beauty of it?

  • @Ruth, deffo agreed at the small faces mention, kinks, and Ocean Colour Scene are the greatest band ever...

But thats beside the point. And exactly the point. Music is personal taste, not some platonic thing you can rate and put in order. If you like it, listen. If not, dont. Its as simple as that.

    Keep the faith :D

Its just a shame the greats (lee mathers, ian brown, even liam) dont have the same voices they once did. It stops my generation (im 17) gettin into it often.

  • I have been listening to this song just about every day for about 6 months now. I can't get over it.

    TheWayTheTruth(dot)com

    FreeHovind(dot)com/watch

  • He's actually pronouncing it "throatwobbler mangrove."

  • I thought he was pronouncing it "Raymond Luxury Yach-t".

  • You're a very silly man, and I'm not going to interview you.

  • no he prounounces it purr-gah-tory

  • I always enjoyed how Mavers pronounced it "Paga-tory"

  • this is really good .

  • im from cardiff and these were the best of them all better than the stone roses and the happy mondays put together!! their album is the dogs i know every word

  • i saw mavers at glastonbury, it was sad to see him like that, a total mess, it just shows what hard drugs can do to people...

  • I bet the rest of them would be up for a reforming of the group. they should do it. the stuff would be different, but people would expect that.

  • That was a wonderful version. Beautiful.

  • got to be about a drug?

    no its about a girl

    girls are druggy!!1

  • the song is about injecting heroin, however he disguised it, so it could be interpreted as a being about a girl, probably to make money off it and get it in the charts!!

  • Very cool acoustic version!

  • All I can think of when I hear this song is John Updike's "Rabbit" series....

    Anyone else?

  • Eric Forman's got a hell of a voice

  • lee has a cool haircut

  • i must av watched this vid a million times

  • i think this is lee's life story

  • Breaks my heart to see this and wonder of what could have been. How many more great albums could we've had? How many more Timeless Melodies? A beautiful shame.

  • incredible man,,who does this shit these days??

    noone,,,nobody ever did...

    genius,,

"second one" with a smirk!!! in the pocket la!!!

    genius mavers..

  • The La's is legend

  • tjis is me favourite la's tune. what am i sayin every la's tune is me favourite lee mavers keepin it real la

  • brilliant song~there she goes pulsin' though my VEIN~~~~~~~~~~TAKES 1 2 KNOW WAT S GOIN ON?

  • sup cuties?? check me out for some naughty fun! F

  • no cos ur a dog!

  • @GMOZOH I have feeling Mavers and Power won't read these posts so..

  • They're strikingly different as a group...very home-made feel to all the stuff and clearly into it for the sheer thrill of what creating music can bring. The album is great but it's a shame Mavers never reckoned much to it.

  • mavers is the man

  • I dont give a shit if mavers did drugs ore not! Simple is that!

  • Drugs ruined Mavers. I care a lot and wished he never touched them.

  • Mavers is a fucking genius.

  • the nature of genius and true beauty cannot be traced or captured in the realm of the real. make what you will of the nature of drug addiction but it is the human condition of which mavers sings. i love this song.

  • love the la's hate there she goes!

  • Only a professional could make the personification of heroin addiction sound upbeat.

The La's need to do some shows, AT LEAST in Liverpool.

  • and maybe MIAMI!!!

  • Just fantastic, acoustic there she goes is mindblowing

  • what a tune init!

  • Wish I could do that.

  • For one of my favourite bands I've only ever listened to the album a few times, I think it's weak, check out the live BBc album and the live stuff on youtube instead

  • Damn these guys a fantastic! Can't believe I'd never heard of them. Almost impossible to find all of their mp3's though.

  • Genius, nothing more or less..

  • Fckin love this band.

  • Absolutely sweet performance from one of the best british bands of the 20th century, if only lee mavers played the game eh??????

  • great pure performance, even my 5 year old daighter loves this performance, she sings along to both tracks and has even learned to type son of a gun into youtube lol

  • i gotta disagree with the posts below. i think this is my favorite la's performance on tape! there's a real authenticity to these acoustic versions and his voice sounds fucking beautiful.

  • Fantastic, fantastic band with a perfect romatic 60's vibe to them. To me The LAs are like a beautiful girl you met and fell in love with on a summers night, who disappeared never to be seen again, only to live on in your memory as a perfect daydream of what could have been. I really, truly love this band.
