  • Gee. If only they had a horn or a light or something to warn.... oh, WAIT!

  • Obviously if the engines didnt shut down. the cpt cant drive a boat!

  • wrong it was a raf sea king that rescued them i saw it go bye

  • @MinecraftMovies4u It was most certainly NOT a RAF helicopter it was from Spain. I have pictures of it the next day. The pilot was very brave and got a number of men off before his engine failed.

  • Some of the previous comments crack me up

  • a bit ironic that it was torn in two on rocks next to a lighthouse :L

  • @128outlaw rocks, wrecks and lighthouses rather go together ....

  • The guy in the lighthouse must have been like "Oh shit!"

  • really dumb crew and officers

  • that is the calmest voice I have ever herd anyone use to describe a giant ship getting torn in two by massive waves.

  • @turborabbit1114 The video was shot the day after when the storm was over and everyone had been saved the night before. The tearing in two was all over.

  • @turborabbit1114 Definitely not the Hindenburg commentator....."OH THE HUMANITY!!!!!!!!!!.........

  • Seems a paradox crashing next to a light house!

  • @pgjr00 Not really, the ship had no engines and dec;lined a tow from tugs on the scene. The lighthouse is there to warn ships about the rocks, the wind did the rest assisted by the captains stupidity. He was arrested.

  • @JimWatt I wonder why he declined a tow?

  • @theoldgalah Accepting a tow involves a charge, the captain decided it was not necessary - in hindsight it was a bad call.

  • I dont think thats the dock

  • "The sea was angry that day, my friends" Lol. Scary shiat

  • I found your video here while flying over the rock in Google Earth. Cool!

(not the wreck, but the tech...)

  • I can see her rolling with the waves. is she still floating? The stern portion isn't moving in the slightest, is it because her foreward oil storage tanks are empty?

  • @inufandom The rear section was grounded and the front was empty and floating.

    Its all been removed now.

  • This is probably an ore ship as it has hatches not large pipes on deck to offload and load oil.

  • Looks like you could just step over from the flying bridge to the cliff. Lol. They weren't loling much though.

  • Now they got two ships.

    OK pieces of ship.

  • Very impressive video JimWatt, pretty scary! Cheerrs for sharing.

  • Mother Nature is still a force to be reckoned with.

  • aj jaj jaj .>:)

  • Fuel oil then. I saw a still shot in another video of this that showed her from the inland side after the weather broke; the water was all streaked with black goo. But that will happen I guess. Better than the Exxon Valdez by far. If you watch the big wave break on the ship at :29 seconds, even as it's rolling it, it has a definite brown tint to it, especially when it sprays into the air.

  • It it was in the news at the time.

  • you never know what happen, it could of stopped working, the engines stop. if the engines stop in bad weather stuff like this could happen. not even a light house could help this ship. if it was down.

  • But we do know what happened. They were repairing the engines so they had stopped working. The anchor broke. The ship drifted. The captain refused assistance from tugs and will be held responsible for the disaster.

  • Refused assistance? WHY!? Didn't want to pay for it or something? Well, he did anyway. Do you know what she was carrying? You can see that the water and the spray from the waves breaking at the break is colored a bit brown. Fuel oil, or cargo leaking out into the ocean?

  • She was empty.

  • The light house is there to help keep ships off the rocks ...

  • next to a light house. a little bias dont u think?

  • lots and lots of duct tape

  • Spot of welding will see her good, or even some sticky tape as a temporary measure.

  • or spackle , or body putty!

  • Oh my

  • where fuck is the port

  • Clearly NOT at Europa Point.

  • they move the port

  • The announcer REALLY needs to calm down!

  • Sounds kinda bored with his job, eh?

  • Job? you think someone pays me ?

  • So... they're just gonna leave it there?

  • they have to leave if there untill the waves get smaller

  • I saw it a few days ago (27 May 2009). Just the stern and the bottom few metres of the superstructure is still in place, looks like its going to rust there.

Might make an interesting dive in the future!

  • I fixed the last line of your post:

"Might make a fucking dangerous dive in the future!"

  • That is the most...relaxed...announcer.

  • @MediaSculptor lol..yess..

  • @MediaSculptor thats how us english deal with things haha

  • thats gotta suck!

  • What a waste :D

  • Wow, interesting, thanks!

  • How did the ship get caught in there?

  • this brings back bad memorys of the Braer that ran aground of sumburgh in 1993 ware am from in shetland

  • Its still there.

  • Hi Jim, Phaedra's grandmother was Europa. And her uncle Hercules. So this was a family reunion that run out of hand.

    Gr. Alex from Holland

  • thank you lord, that 3rd Engineer Rey Cabigas is safe

  • I work for MAN B&W and have access to all info on the vessel. (Fedra is NOT built in Germany in 1977.)

    IMO no.: L8208713

Built by: Burmeister & Wain, Copenhagen, Denmark

    Sea trial: October 1984

    Engine: MAN B&W 4L80GB

  • it's incredible!!

  • I didn't see the rescue, but the police tell me it went well, and everyone played their part, particularly the helicopter pilot who deserves a medal for flying in horrendous conditions.

Perhaps Titan should open an office in Gibraltar as there seems to be plenty of work around here.

  • My Dad was one of the Titan crew involved in rescuing the crew of the Fedra. I am very proud of him, and congratulate all the people involved in the rescue for outstanding work above and beyond the call of duty. Just thought I'd mention that....if anyone is interested!!

  • The split is a clean break in front of the bridge section, There are some good pictures on the daily mail website.

Also today and yesterday on my news website.

  • Build in 1984 by Burmeister & Wain Copenhagen Denmark.

Nine days after the collision water was discovered in No.4 hold situated 79 metres aft of the collision bulkhead. [UNQUOTE]

  • Wikipedia says it was built in Spain so there seem to be various versions of this.
