@keironlouoliverb No prob! With the recent release of Reason version 6, you want to get that. It has everything that Record has (which we no longer make since it's all in Reason) and it obviously has everything in Reason too. Reason 6 is everything all in one package. Good luck!
@LyricZinc No a MIDI controller is not required. Some people like them because they play keyboard already or they want to have a bunch of knobs at their finger tips. But far more people making music with their mouse than do with controllers. And if you want to play something in on a keyboard but don't want or own one, you can turn on a computer keyboard piano so the keys on your computer become piano keys and you can play things that way if you like. Thanks for asking and good luck!
@PropellerheadSW Is changing the computer keyboard to a piano keyboard possible through the Reason/Record software itself? Or is another software needed? Sorry for asking too much!
@LyricZinc No need to apologize for asking so much. We all start out wondering so many questions and we never stop asking them, really. It's always a learning process to make music. To answer your question, yes the piano keyboard using your computer keys is built into Reason/Record. There's a menu item for turning it on and off. And you can choose what octave you're playing in for low bass lines or high lead lines.
I love how all these programs although really great sometimes promise you to create music without any musical knowledge or talent! Gotta praise em for that. Now if u excuse me ive got to go finish 50cents new beats thx
@KRobertB90 Hey KRobert. It's the weekend so we're enjoying our Sundays. :) To answer your original question, we're so interested in fan ideas that we have a dedicated "feature suggestion" section to our website forum. Head over there and go wild suggesting features. We read them all and take the pulse of what the community is into. Thanks.
The problem with your company and product is 1. Slow web site. 2. Tons of menu's and sub questions to get to a question that may not be covered 3. Only email support 4. Inability to ask a human a question.
If I am using w/ a client and encounter a problem, it takes quite awhile to get an email through, then must wait - maybe days? This is why I threw away Sample tank. Sometimes they took weeks to respond. I'm human, and need to ask a human. Sorry fellas. back to outside modules for me.
Reason 5 is one of the best DAW out there if you're into Sound Engineering. I love creating my own synths and drumkits so Reason 5 fits me well. Thank you, Propellerhead for making such a perfect DAW!!!
just ordered the duo, trying to make an album. Bit worried about how well record and reason work together and if i'm going to have to relearn everything i did on fruity loops, still can't wait though :)
@keflar5 Congrats! And welcome to the club. As for how well Reason and Record work together? They're like two peas in a pod, like chocolate and peanut butter, like Mork and Mindy, like John Stewart and Stephen Colbert, like Obama and Hope, like... well you get the point. Just install both and then launch record and it'll all be in there for you... all the reason devices will be inside record.
@PropellerheadSW - I was with you till you said "Obama and Hope"... If you have followed what he has actually been doing it would be more accurate to say "Obama and Disapointment" or "Obama and Betrayal", or "Obama and Corporate, War Mongering, Puppet".

I enjoy working with Propellerhead products. Reason 4.0 and Recycle 2.1 and Reason Record. I will invest in Reason 5 upgrade. Thanks do the fact I just have to get the upgrade and I get Reason Record 1.5. I've been working with Reason for about 8 months now. My beats are getting better and better. Thanks Propellerhead. Check out my vid on youtube. Type in piranhas eating shrimp. You will see my vid my name fortgreene31. The beat you hear in my vid is a beat i did back in june of this year.
@KRobertB90 I'm on R3, that's my baby (on XP sp2 that is - W7 32bit won't give me any advantages in getting my vybe to the disk). I'm not that familiar with R5 (which is the only one with "realtime" input), so I haven't got a clue.. My best guess is to look into the soundcards mixer (remember to check out the 5.1 settings), or maybe try kX-drivers, ASIO4ALL or something. You know, you can get a 2nd hand 1010lt or creamware card fairly cheap - it'll be a whole new world (and sound) for you :-)
@KRobertB90 Yeah, sorry, I should've known you know your way around Reason, just by being here :-) But you see, that's the beauty of R for me: no limitations. Some things could be done smarter (and R5 really come up with some cool features that helps on that), but when you've spent years with R you just DO, not think about ressources and compromises - it's not an issue. It was, when it was REAL wires, or back the slomo-computer-days, but know.. you just create what you want when you need it! <3

There's a lot of cool new stuff in v5. Unfortunatly, you also need to buy a decent computer to get something decent out of it. Funny, because it seems that sequencers move in the different direction (more responsive and using less resources). I think the sequencer is a bit more "calm", "steady" and "smooth" to work with than v4, but I can bring my core2 to its knees very quickly (even quicker that with v4) - with v3 I can go creating stuff on forever!
Do u have a good sound card that supports ASIO? If not then get one. I use Reason 5.0 on a P4 ( I do have a core 2 duo & quad machine). But the P4 runs reason fine even with just the integrated audio from the motherboard. But I use my Audigy with ASIO support and I'm running windows 7 on this P4. No problems, hickups, glitches or anything. Latency is fine as well.
@sonofsam717 : Yeah, I've got a dedicated sound card on the PCI-bus. Ig you can run w7 and R5 with no limitations I guess you're good at optimizing. After I've grown up and got a decent job I've stop focusing on computers, and spend the time doing music instead. R4 was a performance-disaster compared to R3, and I agree R5 runs more calm. But if you're a musician who don't like spending too much time doing tech-stuff, you'll need a modern CPU, that's for sure..
@sonofsam717 : Hahaha, well, if you turn off unnecesary services and bring up msconfig as the first thing after you've reinstalled your computer, yeah, you're too tehcish for most people :-)
I love Reason.. I've been playing with it since 3.0..can't wait til I get enough moolah to get the new update..then after that I can't wait til I get more time to play with it more.....
Is it on purpose that you don't have vst support ? and also midi out function would be awesome to Record, the most easy way would be too have midi tracks, where you select a output on your device to give midi information to a synthesizer or keyboard
@MomoTheBellyDancer I don't think so. There is already enough VST-supporting software. Reason has always had it's unique sound just because everything must be created internally.
I think the most serious flaws in Reason are the lack of multi-band EQs (not FFT), some global pattern effects such as time scretch, more controllable flanger and of course an nalyzer (like PAZ) which would make mixing a ton easier.
I was really hoping for at least the EQs and Analyzer in 5. but no :/
@Usumgallu it has got time stretch? And it's pretty simple to use two or 3 mclass eq's to create the equivalent of a multiband and I use the analyzer on the vocoder when mixing. So err..... What's your point?
@0tto777 Well you got my point. I have used Reason since its first release, I'm very aware of its capabilities and flaws. (1) There is no time stretch, unless you use only samples in NN-19/XT. (2) You can use multiple EQs that's true, but it would be much easier and accurate if you could use only one EQ. (3) Yes you can monitor with the vocoder, but it's not accurate as it's FFT and it doesn't show phase analysis. Of course you can use Reason thru rewire and use PAZ, but again, impractical.
And if you really did not get my point: Do you think the tempo automation was an useless feature in 4.0, as you always could change the tempo by altering the notes off-grid? :]
Also I wonder why you cannot load wavs in Malström? (except through shaper/filter).
@vaaib Slice WAV files? No we have that now. You now have a sample edit window where you can slice wav samples, normalize, fade in/out, crop, and reverse. The REX files is a different story. They still are sliced in ReCycle. But if you want to slice wav files like you said then you're totally sorted now in Reason 5.

Amazing new features. Still in a closed world.... thank god for Rewire but I wish there was better integration inside of Logic Pro. I am still anxious for my update to Reason.
I actually thought Blocks was a boring feature when I saw the promo videos. But after I've had the opportunity to play with the new version as a beta tester I can say that Blocks is the coolest of the new features (for me). Brilliant ! Makes experimenting so much easier and fun.
I love seeing videos like this! I'm so interested in hearing what the people behind my favorite company have to say about... stuff :) I love Propellerhead so much! xD
This is one of the best videos I've seen in my life. HUGE fan of Props... you're software shaped my life and my career. I don't know where I'd be without you guys.
There's something special about this company. It doesn't feel like they're a major player in the business as they seem so down to earth, but obviously they are. I always thought it was a shame that Reason didn't support plugins, but now I don't care anymore as Reason/Record has really become a great product.
And as a developer myself, these guys kind of pisses me off :) ... Not one single program I've ever made is as rock stable as their products, not even if I coded a calculator :).
I keep playing this video looking for the part where they throw their hands up and say "we ran out of ideas, gave up, and decided to add VST support" but it doesn't seem to be in there.
Props. Best music software company, ever. I'll take that statement back if there's no MIDI filter in R6. As well as..
I'm probably going to buy v5, but until it has on the fly slicicng/chopping, it will be NOWHERE near an MPC, please stop comparing, it's misleading imo. Include better Recycle integration and it will be the only program I use...
if reason had the ability to warp like ableton i wouldn't have to use any other software :)

That's Mats. He was the product manager of reason and worked on this version for a long time. I don't think he works for props anymore.

I'm probably going to buy v5, but until it has on the fly slicicng/chopping, it will be NOWHERE near an MPC, please stop comparing, it's misleading imo. Include better Recycle integration and it will be the only program I use...
