@Aritul i was watching some behind the scenes stuff, and chris columbus, who directed the film, said the old man wasn't in the original script, but added later to give it more emotion. the pigeon lady in home alone 2, with a very similar scene, is also great. the symmetry used in the second is why i think it works so well

this is my church i've gone to my whole life- it is truly as magical as in this movie. My family also goes every year to christmas eve midnight mass and the choir sings christmas hyms an hour before the actual service for people to come and listen. The church they show on the outside is different from the church they show the interior of. The church still looks practically the same too!

I too am very much alone. I work, I collect aluminum cans by the side walk, and I even salt the roads.

People thought I was a wacko. They were afraid of me.

But when people get to know me, they think I am a very nice person. I just isolated mysel;f over the years because I suffered some tragedy. I don't say much, but I am really nice.

You can't always judge a book by its cover.

Why are they so afraid to portray churches, temples, or synagogues in modern media? Christians and other religious are as much a fabric of society as anyone else.

The 1980s and 1990s were great times because we weren't afraid of political correctness, and we didn't let it prevent us from telling great stories with great morals and moving images and scenes, like this. This scene evokes great peace, warmth, and reverence (to me at least). Thank you for posting this. :-)
