  • It has taken me a long time to really appreciate this, at one stage i thought it monotonous! what i really want to say though is the translation of the original french words is not good, rarely close to what Brel himself sang; even the title of the song is incorrect, ne me quitte pas means do not leave me which is a much more emotional sentiment. yes Scott does it justice but for raw emotion you have to watch Brel

  • Tom Hardy at 3:22?

  • Wonderful xx

  • One of the most beautiful love song ! i did not like brel's voice but scott's voice is just perfect for this song ! by the way did you know that this song was written by brel for his mistress (Suzanne Gabriello) who left him because he didn't want to leave his wife . He said that song was the song of a "coward" !

  • all your comments suck unless u write a better compliment than you already have posted

  • SIGH!

  • Very classy.

  • Brilliant version.. i must say one of the best i´ve heard..with plenty of sorrow and despair you can feel it in his voice.. that is how this song has to be sung!!

    beautiful!!ª!!!

  • this is soooooo fookin´good...

  • If Scott Walker leaves the Socialists in Wisconsin will kill Wisconsin. I'm on Walker's side because their polluting the well I drink from!

  • @CultureShocktpsradio Wrong Scott Walker douche bag

  • is there something that i'm missing?

I love him singing this atmosphere of music.

But why does it have the atmosphere of a Clint Eastwood western?

I know in this song in particular it's an abvious musical quote, but was Scott Walker hooked on westerns?

  • @sferemonk I do get what you saying. I think the strings give it the Western feel. Apparently it is based on Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsody No. 3. That makes sense; the 60's western scores tended to be heavy on classic influences (eg Good, bad and the ugly). so it's a bit of a chicken or the egg question.

  • @sferemonk Clint Eastwood western?? This song is as far away from westerns as Belgium/France is from America.

  • I prefer the french lyric. Jacques Brels 'Ne me quitte pas' rips your heart out. But Scotts rendition is pretty good. I just wish he'd have stayed with this genre; it fits him like a glove! But if the man's happy doing his avant guard stuff, well...so be it. As far as I'm concerned 'The Electrician' is the only listenable thing he's done in the last 30+ years....oh well - maybe 'Dutchess'. I do admire him though; a man who's true to himself. He won't sell himself out.

  • @lukeyboy123able NOT true Lukeyboy,( that's my grand sons name). Scott did much

good. love all his songs. Electrician my favorite. the beautiful music. His music is magic. what a voice!

  • They don't write songs like this anymore - why not??? God, I loved this all those years ago and sometimes think of it. So good to find it here. Utterly beautiful...

  • è quanto di meglio ...in questa grigia giornata milaese!

  • Amazing... I've heard all from Jacques Brel to Nina Simone, to Sinatra, and apart from the original (Jacques Brel), this is better than anything out there.

  • @Vesnatheonly - This is my second favorite, Dusty Springfield's is definitely the best, and better than anything out there.

  • Beautiful performance!....Yet so little hits, hmmm I wonder why.

  • Thank you for this beautiful song, I love this version!

  • This piece touches parts other songs cannot reach!!

  • Ahh.. THIS is exactly what I feel but failed to find the correct words to express myself!! Guess I got too emotional..

  • I love scott as well. He is beautiful.

  • thanks for posting - what a voice - love scott !
