Hey Bob - you are being a little defensive dude. As a musician you should be able to see Gordon's point. There are a long list of awesome artists who where not necessarily technically wonderful guitarists (Dylan, Lennon, etc). Of course Evan is not a maestro guitarist but he is no less awesome because of that. All of the elements combine to make Evan one of the greats. Think of all of the technically amazing guitarists who are totally boring. Anyway, just my two cents worth ...

Ok Evan's not a great guiatrist,his vocals are out of time once or twice and his pitch is a bit out couple of times also,he has goofy chat with the crowd and takes a ridicilous amount of time between songs pulling his lead out whilst live making a horrible noise and taking his cardigan off and pulling his trousers up lol....but !!
Not many songwriters have as big a heart as Evan.The guy wears his heart on his sleeve and i love him for that.
I disagree , when the time comes for the man to lay back and play guitar I'm willing to bet he blows the doors off anything you can do . I'm not knocking you really for what you said but your compliment is very back handed and unfounded.
It's not unfounded i love Evan but he is a pretty average guitarist...good songwriter competent guitarist but limited...as for being a better guitarist than me...well you no nothing about me so you'll never no my friend.Anyway my comment was really saying that none of that matters (being a great guitarist or singer...for the record Dylan was an average guitarist too) as long as yo can write songs with meaning and make people relate to them and Evan definitely can.
you show me YOUR SOLO ACT then talk your talk about who is limited. You leave Dando alone to just play guitar and he would knock your proverbial socks OFF!
@gordonw01 If you've seen him live with a band, you'd know he CAN rip it, when he wants. The sloppiness is part of the deal, and the appeal, on acoustic. He's certainly a much more gifted guitarist than Dylan.
I still say let the man just play and not sing and you will change your mind. Don't disregard the challenge it is to do a 1 man show like he and I both do. Give him his band and let him play lead and you will be surprised .

I get your point , but why give a backhanded compliment? Why not just say what you like about it since its obvious you like the guy too?
@bobvillain he does let it rip with the a band behind him sometimes. Reminds me of some quote from John Lennon. I think from an old rolling Stone interview. Asked about his abilities as a guitarist he wasn't overly gushing about his talents but said" I can make the fucking thing howl"

So glad I rediscovered Evan Dando. I thought I loved his old stuff but the new ones are even better. When is his next album coming out?
