  • It is nice to see friendly posts here, but this song was spoilt with ugly and painful realities in Cyprus. Greek Cypriots used this Turkish song as a slogan to make fun of Turkish Cypriots' suffering. Turkish Cypriots were attacked by Greek EOKA terrorists throughout 1960s and early 70s, and Greek Cypriots were playing this song to suggest that Turkish Cypriots were waiting in vain to be rescued.

  • My grand father and grand mother lived in the island of lesbos I think one of my grnad parents lived symrna I dont know witch one they ended up on Lesbos island.Anyways my grand parents like alot of turkish orgin and traditional things.I was going to turkey and I asked him wwhat do you want me to bring you back?My grand father liked the tradional wrape scrafs around the head that they wore in turkey.

  • @kyriacos40 I bought him a scarf for his head I bought a hooka pipe too. I never forget him wraping up the scarf on his head and playing with the hooka pipe joking he use to smoke from a hooka pipe when he was younger.I think my grand father had respect for turks and tukish stuff, but he did mention that they want to in invade Lesbos.I think if people respect borders and trust is build up maybe greeks and turks can live in peace.I know one thing my grand parents like alot of turkish things.

  • @kyriacos40 I miss my grand parents they were real character that survied wars and tradgey, bascialy because they had a deep luve for each other I think thats what got them through it.My grand father even fought the nazis and survied.I think what dosent kill you makes you stronger

    Σκέτη μαγεία η ερμηνεία !!

  • I remember my dad bought this single many years ago and it was sung in turkish by a greek singer (Nikos Xanthopoulos). Could anyone tell me what the lyrics are all about?

  • @akaiminiak It is about unrequited love. A sad tune. The lyrics are very plain actually but they fit well into the melody.

  • sesi berbat tibi sesindende kötü

  • peace and love...only in this way civilization evolves

  • πολύ καλό

  • i understand every song and music has his own way of love and feel.but here we are listening Greek channel,Bouzoukia, turkish is a different mountain.

  • There are all very good.

    peace.

  • @Kalimeraba

Turkish sounds beautiful in this beautiful song. But, there are many traditional Aegean songs that definitely sound better in Greek. Although they translated them and sing them in Turkish too, it`s not the same thing. ``Bournouvalia`` in Turkish is just bland. Barren, with no historical context.

Uskudara Giden Iken sounds better in Turkish. Every song is a different story but just to make my point, imagine the Brazilian song ORFEU NEGRO, sung in German.

  • you can't compare Greek with the turks, what the heck is that.

  • I agree .both are good and each one has something different.

  • Cok guzel bir sarkiyi guzel bir Turkceyle soylemis helal olsun.

  • Very good song

  • There are many songs which forged in a common cultural background ,in places where people from different origins used to live in peace together for centuries, and really it does not matter whom they belong to ,who wrote them etc. What matters is that people from both countries and occasionally from other Balkanic countries as well consider them to be part of their culture.

  • One thing that always amazes me is how the turkish language which sounds so very awkward and barbaric(originally used to describe how the ancient Greeks perceived the sound of non greek speaking people-from the sound bar-bar) at our ears when spoken in proze, turns into a such powerful, emotional and vocative one when sung.

  • at first hearing maybe you feel so. but if you become used to the turkish language it sounds nice and they have many grammar rules about it. it is rich language also in meanings. it is not greek of course but much more rich than many latin languages as for example english

  • Comment removed

  • Depends who's speaking it

  • @fabvier Well, although your comment ends in a nicer tone, it starts with what we call ethnocentricism (or Eurocentricism). From a linguistic point of view, any foreign and unknown language sounds "bar-bar-bar" or "blah-blah-blah Ginger" (this one taken from a FAR SIDE comic by Gary Larson) to speakers of other languages. And again, with music all languages get more appreciable since the intonation patterns that are strange to the foreign ear lose their importance. Also there is often rhyme etc.

  • The guy playing the Buzuki is Greek. One of his visits to Istanbul, he made a TV programme with Mr.Melih Kibar, one of the most important musicians in Turkey. The lady playing the kanun was then working with Mr.Melih Kibar and played some songs with Buzuki. The lady and the guy agreed to make music each other. They are married now and live both in Greece and Turkey.

And that's the power of music..! :-)

  • Bravo c'est magnifique !!!!

We love you, too! I hope we have a chance to prove it to you!

I travelled the World over, I have never seen two nations who are so similar in everything like the Greeks and The Turks, yet hostile to one another! I hope and pray this ends during my life time.

We can't be hostage to the History!

  • i agree 100% and i hope same thing. regards from thessaloniki

  • @askimaki

Hey Askimaki, Great song great thoughts...Looking forard to seeing your lovely city in March.

  • @Angelino41 We are not really hostile! Think about it: Greeks are talking with strong feelings about the Bolivians and the Turks can't bring themselves to have a good word about the peoples of the Ivory Coast. If this was the case, now, that would have been some talking point!

We are neighbours and we wouldn't want it any other way.

By the way, have you ever heard the Finns talking about the Swedes? Or, the English about the French, or the Germans about everybody else?

  • @Angelino41 Hey Angelino, I could not agree more. Looking forward to seeing your lovely city in March.

  • @Angelino41 this is fuckin true, come together guys.

  • you are right... but still there are many things to overcome

  • it's all bull shit, greek and turkish ppl are brothers, they have been so, I do not mind sharing Istanbul with Greek people, but first we have to rid ourselves of this shit mentality they put us in.

  • Thanks for your Video and Channel!

    It's great...

    Love, Peace and Friendship...

    Death to the hate...

Nobody need something like hateful thoughts.

  • Yes i believe same things.Thanks

  • my grandad, born in Antalya and left Smyrna/Ismir in 1922 for the north of Greece, used to sing this song to us.

Peace, we are brothers. No more blood.

  • Many Greeks slaughtered that time! My grand grand parents too! Do you believe we can be brothers? No way! We can try to be friends but not brothers! Its a shame to the memory of those who slauthered by Kemal Ataturk...

  • truth pains but see the facts. who was THE ATTACKING FORCE in asia minor? GREECE was according to the policy of venizelos and king making the DIRTY WORK FOR OUR "ALLIES". KEMAL JUST MADE HIS DUTY TO HIS NATION. so our people slaughtered by OUR STUPID POLITICIANS AND DON'T MOVE THIS RESPONSIBILITY ON KEMAL SO EASILY.AND YES OUR NATIONS CAN BE FRIENDS AND BROTHERS.

  • agree fully with you in all aspects... congratulate your open minded approach

  • Askimaki, seriously, haven't you heard anything about the 300.000 Greeks who were expelled from Turkey to Greece between 1913 and 1914, or about the 400.000 who had to leave their lands in Asia Minor, Thrace, Pontus and move towards eastern Anatolia in 1916 (losing very often their lives)?

  • Haven't you heard anything about the 100.000 Greek young men who died while "serving" in the Amele Taburu and thousands of others who became refugees to save their lives? Please, do some serious history reading before you naively put all the blame on the Greek side for what happened during those horrific years.

  • i've heard much more things than you tell, And i read more too. My paternal family is expelled also from Izmir territory. But here i do not produce politics or history if you can understand this. And you are not more GREEK than me.

  • If you want to teach me history, take care first YOU TO STUDY AND ANALYZE NEUTRALLY the facts and after i am opened to you anytime to discuss whatever you like.BUT NOT IN THIS SITE. Here i try to pass other meaning. The meaning of "WHAT JOINS US". Clear?

  • Comment removed

  • I have nothing here to be corrected with. I repeat the meaning in this side is other. If you like to BE STICK IN YOUR OPINION AND YOU LIKE TO TEACH YOUR VERSION OF HISTORY OK DO IT. REMEMBER ONLY THAT YOU ARE NOT MORE GREEK THAN ME. CLEAR???????????????

  • I didn't say that I'm more Greek than you, I said that you distort the historical facts. The national cleansing against the Greeks began YEARS BEFORE the Greek army set foot on Asia Minor. So, yes, you have been corrected on this.

  • I will tell you one last time maybe you can understand it. IN THIS SITE I DO NOT EXPOSE TO ANYONE MY HISTORICAL KNOWLEDGE AND OPINION. It can't be with few sentences here. And greek army did not set foot in1922 but years before doing the "dirty work" of our "allies"

  • Here i upload just songs and some time appears some "tourkofagos" or some "voulgaroktonos" and try to turn the meaning of my site to nationalistic. I never refer to history first and your opinion can not be in a few brief sentences like slogan.

  • So if i never refer to history here how can i distort or not distort any historical fact? Where did you see any historical analyzation of mine here? I just can't stand slogans like yours and some others'. If you like to talk with me history give me an e-mail or something and after you can "correct me" with your arguements.

  • Please, don't play stupid, askimaki. I answered to a specific comment of yours, where you put all the blame for the massacres against the Greeks on the Greek politicians and army.

  • I'm repeating that when the Greek Army set foot on Anatolia (1919), the Greek victims of the Turkish persecutions had already been hundred of thousands. If this isn't true, tell me what the truth is and call me a liar. But calling me a "Tourkofagos" is not an argument.

  • "TO GOUDI TO GOUDOHERI ME TON KOPANO STO HERI" .You insist . My comment was as an ANSWER to another "tourkofagos " like you about Ataturk.Study history first and tell us what work had the greek expeditonary troup MUCH MORE BEFORE 1919 or whatever you say

  • Bu klibi kostikas31 arkadasim gonderdi. Bak bu klipler guzel. sana ve bu paylasan arkadasa tesekkurler. Bu dostluk cok ho$ devamini bekliyoruz. gecmisi unutalim.
