@DerEddi Deine Reaktion ist schon ein Jahr alt, trotzdem möchte ich reagieren.

Mit dem Wort 'Duits' meinen wir nicht 'Deutsch'; in das 16. und 17. Jahrhundert bedeutet 'Duits' nämlich 'Niederländisch'. Der Dichter spricht also über Holland. ;)

It's not a kid. Ryan van den Akker was born in 1960, while the Dutch edition was broadcast from 1989 to 1991. Van den Akker is a Dutch musical singer and voice artist. She also provided the voice of Nala in the Dutch version of the Lion King

I study both languages as foreign languages, so to me those similarities are very apparent, but to a person with one of the languages as mother tounge, it is likely more difficult.

Languages can be divided into language families - like branches of the same tree. Most european languages belong to the Indo-European family. Two of the sub-language families are the latin/romance language (French, Spanish, italian, latin etc.) and the germanic languages (german, dutch, english, danish, swedish, etc.). The older question is moot, because languages change constantly. The dutch, german and english we speak now are very different from what was spoken in the middle ages.

Well, as far as I know, the Germanic languages started seperating from the Indo-European about 2000-1500 BC. Of course, this is a guess, since there are very few sources to be found.

About French: It is not at all related to Dutch and German. It is Romanic and originates in Latin :)

@menthosdrop It does not originate in Old German. German did not exist at the time. German only exists because of Dutch and the other way round.They are equally old. Continental western Germanic split up into two main dialects, high German and low German which basically is a kind of Dutch. So X split up into Y and Z. To then call X German is a bit weird.
