WAIT WAIT A FUCKING MINUETE your telling me right now that were no monsters in the woods just a fucking lie cuz all this idiots are anti social fucking bullshit
A shitty fucking ending to a shitty movie. M. Night should be put in jail for misleading the public into believing that this movie would be good. It was fucking horrible and I would like to punch him in his fucked up brain, hard. My fucking cat could have wrote a better script, and he's blind.
The preserve has that name because of the money Edward Walker (Ivy's Father) inherited from his own father who was murdered and found in the river (As told). He decided to spend the money to buy land and turn it into a preserve - Walker Preserve. Because Kevins boss (Shymalan) says the things about the forbidden planes it's likely that Edward has been outside the Preserve very often - to protect the village, ensure no one gets in and to pay the Ranger So Shy probably knew what was in there.
The Movie Is Awesome. Great Writing & Acting. The Point ? Fear, being mankind's worst enemy, is crushed by Love even in the face of adversity, even when one is "blind", [seen the movie?] Love Prevails ! Most everything we Fear in life doesn't happen 99% of the time. So Fear robs you of the best moments to show Love, because how life plays out for you may not be as you planned. So,
EVERY moment should be motivated by Love, which Crushes Fear. Life is too short to not be Brave & Love always.
He DESERVED best score for this. Not only did the music fit every scene, it's one of the rarities that stands alone. And this scene defines that.... especially considering how beautiful the scene is.
@bandoverlife Not at all. I despised the twist at the end. I was dreading it all the film, going "please don't let it be this, please don't let it be this," and when it happened, I was, "Fuck you, M. Night, I want my money back." It absolutely ruined the film.
The movie was pretty flawless. The ending couldn't be better. It still has all of you wondering if he lived or not. I think M Night was going for that. If the ending showed them living happily ever after, it would make it less intense in my opinion.
I've browsed the comments and keep seeing people mention God and Christianity. Why? This movie doesn't have to do with God. I'm not being negative towards those comments, i'm just curious if people think that God was a motive behind the whole scheme of this movie. They decided to make a village away from the modern world to isolate themselves from violence. The stories of elders are violent. M Night reading the paper and every article is about violence. Radio in the background is all violence.
the movie is beautifull but the ending could be a bit more different, but still those two loves each other it seems soo unreal but gosh im in love with this <3
"Living by faith" sounds magical and all, but it basically means living with a blind belief in something and never asking questions. It's for the weak-minded like you, and the villagers, who were also living by faith. Gotta love crazy christians...you all always think quoting and spewing out bible bullshit makes you sound smart, hahaha.
@junkmailboy1000 You do know that anything you believe in is "living by faith"... even if you say you believe in evolution.... nothing has been proved to have happened... so in the end you are still believing sth that might not be true... :) not looking for a fight... just telling you the facts... i really did think that evolution was proven and all... and it has changed so much... eek lol
@luzaleja2 I'd rather live by the "faith" then of the rational community than some cult that promises a magical ending if you follow their guidelines.
@junkmailboy1000 ok :) I am one who believes respect for other people's culture should come first, rather than try and make them think what you think (of course that means I really dont like religion but ah well lol i still respect people who believe that... IF they dont try and make me feel bad for not doing what they do...)
@luzaleja2 Agreed. Too bad the christians and muslims think that everyone who is not one of them is inferior. Can't tell ya how many times I've had christians tell me they're going to pray for me because they think I'm going to hell because I'm not one of them. Pure bullshit. Makes me laugh everytime :)
@junkmailboy1000 Definitely! I mean there are lots of christians and people from all the other religions that are super super nice!... But I can't deal with people (who are also part of those religions and give these other people a bad name ¬¬) who think that they are the only ones right. Really annoys me. also makes me laugh though. Specially when they say "oooh I'll do everything right because if not God (or Gods) will be mad" rather than being good because it comes from your heart.
@junkmailboy1000 further more, it is awful that soooo many people make God to be this really powerful guy that forgives no one. I do believe in him, but I refuse to think that he wont love us if we do sth wrong T.T... I also refuse to think that someone who is not a part of a religion, but also is a greaaat person, generous, helpfull, etc, will go to hell... just because they dont go to church...
Yay! It was all a giant social experiment. Kind of like the one we are living under today in this adminstration. Yes, that is Ronald Reagan driving the jeep just outside of the forest. That is Ronald Reagan screaming....Come back! Come back to FREEDOM!!!
underappreciated movie about people using fear to control others (aka religion)...they shouldn't have tried to market it as some cheap thrill scary movie about monsters.
Yeah, they could have waited until now to release the film and could market it as a documentary about what the Obama Administration is doing to the American people. Religion? Jeez...get your facts straight...
@wlyounce123 Fear keeps people in line and religions have been using that for ages. Don't do this or you're going to hell. The world is going to end so repent now. Santa Claus is watching you year round so make sure you behave. Allah will not protect you if you are not loyal to his ways. You're telling me that isn't religion using fear to get people to live the way the church wants them to? Get real bible thumper.
Actually, I am not religious. I don't believe in religion, a man-made concept, and an excuse for men to make a god out of anything they want. I believe there is only one true God and his name is not Allah, either... It is Jehovah. I believe in the Holy Bible and whatever original manuscripts it came from. I don't believe in any counterfeit RELIGIOUS documents like the Book of Mormon, the Koran, Jehovah's Witness "bibles". And one more thing, the "Church" refers to the followers of Jesus.
@wlyounce123 How can you say "I'm not religious" but then go on to talk about how there is one true god name jehovah?? Seems pretty contradictory. And yea, I know "church" means specifically christians, that's who I was mainly talking about using fear to control people. I just threw allah in there to be politically correct.
It's fairly elementary, actually. You see, there is no better represented TRUTH in this world than the God of the Holy Bible, the God of the Jews, Jehovah, and the God who gave his Son, Jesus to be crucified for the sins of the world. Once you get past that truth, it is simple to understand. The Holy Bible is the only book man has ever known that does not contradict itself. In fact, even today, it builds on truth after truth after truth. No other "god" of any religion even comes close.
@wlyounce123 haha "once you get past that truth, it is simple to understand." yea, except it's just fiction. That's like saying once you accept that red monsters with claws live in the woods then all else is simple to understand. The village and religion...it's all for the weak-minded like you who buy into the magical bullshit.
Also...Fear? Why are you afraid? The "fear" described in the Holy Bible is actually to be interpretted as being awestruck at the power and magnificence of the holiness of God. Fear, in human terms doesn't even compare. To fear God is to respect Him. The Bible has much wisdom for modern times, even though the world keeps trying to put it into an "of the times" context. There is always something new to be learned, and He wants you to learn about Him. But most importantly...it's about grace...
@wlyounce123 I still can't believe you actually claimed that you're not religious at all. CLEARLY you are a religious nutjob that worships a magical force, much like most extremist cults out on the market. To fear the red monsters is to respect them. That's what the village elders brainwashed the kids into thinking. You being intimidated by the power of some magical force that exists only because someone told you it does is NO different.
It is not religion. What I believe is truth. You better believe I am intimidated. Were you not intimidated by adults when you were a child. Likewise I am intimidated by God, He is my father and I know him. Why would I not respect Him? Oh, and magic has nothing to do with it. I am talking about what is real here, buddy. One day...you will know...all will know.
@wlyounce123 Wow, you're even fuckin loonier than I thought. The villagers believe the red monsters are the truth. They've seen them in person, so they know they are real. They respect them, why? Because the elders told them to. But guess what, the red monsters are a fucking farce!! The same thing happened to you and now you run around insisting that magical god is real just as much as the villagers insist the red monsters are real.
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness..............Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened, Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools...
@junkmailboy1000 Hey buddy. I simple critique of much of Shyamalan's work reveals that he doesn't embrace one side or the other but writes worldview movies which allow for multiple interpretations. Take, Signs for example.
Have seen this movie. I feel strange why at that age there's a jeep car in there. Finally I understand this movie is about some person who retreat from the modernisation world and choose to live in a peaceful village.
I love this film, but does anyone think there were some unexplained events? Such as the skinned animals and the marks on the doors? I think that a logical explanation would be that Noah was the one who did it...seeing as he was already capable of killing Lucious? All they said was that it was one of the elders who did it.
You are right! This is an unbelievably great profound movie. Its my second favorite of all time, being The Fountain my first. Both are tremendously underrated. It takes good heart to understand these films.
I saw this movie long time ago and I really want to see the previous scene, you know, of her getting the medicines out of the reserve, does anyone's got it?
I guess I was wrong in thinking that because we live in the 21st century we would have progressed in our understanding of humanity and its diversity.
To think that for all our science, philosophy and that extra 2% difference in DNA that separates us from chimpanzees, we would have 'weeded out' the ignorant by now.
don't worry about it, if your in school do all of your work and make to school on time. don't be to harsh on your self, stress is not good for people. i really mean it, do good in school
Hmm been there and done that. I really can't see how 'school' is relevant to this. Maybe you should go to school SmallWinky, I think you would love it.
My mother hated it. I was surprised, though I shouldn't have been. If you are not in an allegorical frame of mind you will miss everything. As for joining the Amish, as Shyamalan is from Pa. he was probably partly inspired by them. The Amish are subject to all the usual human foibles. We often see here stories in the news one being picked up for DUI. Which doesn't make sense to me, if the horse is sober what's the problem. I once asked a County Sheriff about that but his answer made no sense.
It is about that, but it is also about deception & fear. Ironically, the community here is sunk even deeper into fear & delusion because of Ivy's triumph. Even she now thinks that the creatures are real. The parents were driven by fear into this fake world. They used fear to control their children, now the children are taking that fear ever deeper. A classic tragedy. & it was the love of their lost family members which drove them into this world of fear.
it is also about how they use fear to create a blanket of tranquility, but even controlling fear cannot always be done (the guy stabbed Lucious) There is not perfect utopia.
Like all of Shyamalan's movies, this is symbolic. Now, what are symbolic & ultimately mythic foundation for the Lucius & Noahs characters. Are Lucius & Noah Gilgamesh & Enkidu? Why is it that Ivy & not Lucius make the heroic journey. Why does Ivy kill Noah (I mean what is the mythic purpose of the death). Enkidu dies after being humanized by the love of a woman. What other mythic types are being played w/ here?
i didn't take it from a poem. I made that up. Fear can be a blanket of tranquility. In the movie, they scared people from going into the forest and discovering what was beyond it. They used fear to keep their community at peace, away from the crime of "the towns". Therefore, fear can be a blanket of tranquility.
It is even more complicated then using fear to keep people tranquil. I doubt if the parents were conscious of how they were using fear to control their children. They were too driven by fear themselves, but it was fear mixed perversely w/ love. They wanted those they lived to not know the fear they have. They wind up using fear to keep those they love "safe." They see themselves as loving their children rather then filling them w/ fear.
of course the founding parents were conscious of using fear, they had red suits, made sounds in the woods, and came into the village when somebody did something bad. The story also showed how you can't play god, that violence can show up in a controlled environment away from "the towns." And yes, they see themselves as loving their children.
I would love to live in a simple, family/friend oriented community like the one in The Village - maybe I should move to an Amish town.
How can fear be a blanket of tranquility, when they are constantly leaving in fears and insecurities? Ask yourself this-Are you willing to live in a place like that?
Christianity is a perfect example. Teaching people to live in fear of sinning and going to hell, but offering redemption for "believing".
Everyone lives in this place. Everyone has a fear that provides a blanket of tranquility. You live in society because you fear the wrath of true nature, society provides a blanket of tranquility. But society is somewhat more dangerous and fragile than nature. You fear getting fired from your job, but the money provides a blanket of tranquility.
The part about society was my response to HistGamers question. Christianity was an example of people living in fear. People who are constantly going to church to pray for their "sins" are in fear of going to hell. Yet the blanket of tranquility that Christianity offers is the belief that if a person lives life a certain way they will go to heaven (a so-called eternity of salvation and perfection). Almost 1/2 the world's population are Christians - I think that has a little effect on society.
Yes but unlike the people in the 'Village' Christians aren't afraid to venture outside of a particular boundary nor do they fear death. A better example of the type of fear presented in Village can be found in leftist circles, where fear of the reality of life has placed so many into a cocoon of insecurity.
see, the average person seeing this movie doesn't see the connections and make the analysis of the great literary components of this film. Do you know why? Because the average person is Stoopid is as stupid does.
People simly need to be in the right frame of mind to look at things symbolically. Most movies aren't like this, not on this level, not consciously. Unless you look at it from the right lense it all looks like nonsense.
I'm still suprised how many people hated or didn't like this movie. I think it is very well made, beautiful music, excellent cast and acting, and an awesome story about the power of love. With or without the "in-depth" analysis.
You People are the dumest RETEARDS ever, this movie has got to be the WORST movie ever, like god sake it frigen sucked so hard, i WALKED OUT CUZ IT SUCKED SO MUCH.
I kind of get angry about all the credit Hillary Hahn gets. Yeah, I know she played wonderfully and everything but James Newton Howard wrote it! The music would still be as great with any other top violinist. It's the music and the depth that makes it so great.
That's Bryce Dallas Howard. She's Ron Howard's daughter, and she played Gwen Stacy in Spider Man 3. She was also the lead in M. Night Shamalan's movie Lady in the Water.
sfx is about music I thought but I could be wrong though. This is one of my favorite movies it is really awesome! Great acting great lighting great story.
Actually, in the beginning of the clip, where they all stand up, the music is from the track "The Vote".
When Evy enters, the piano solo takes over. I don't know where to find this piano solo that lasts only for seconds until Evy says "I'm back, Lucius".
Then the bang and the black screen and the music from here on is, correctly, from the track: "Those We Don't Speak Of". But I also can't find that piano solo-thingy anywhere on the soundtrack.

The preserve has that name because of the money Edward Walker (Ivy's Father) inherited from his own father who was murdered and found in the river (As told). CLEARLY you are a religious nutjob that worships a magical force, much like most extremist cults out on the market. To fear the red monsters is to respect them. That's what the village elders brainwashed the kids into thinking. You being intimidated by the power of some magical force that exists only because someone told you it does is NO different.
junkmailboy1000 1 year ago
It is not religion. What I believe is truth. You better believe I am intimidated. Were you not intimidated by adults when you were a child. Likewise I am intimidated by God, He is my father and I know him. Why would I not respect Him? Oh, and magic has nothing to do with it. I am talking about what is real here, buddy. One day...you will know...all will know.
wlyounce123 1 year ago
@wlyounce123 Wow, you're even fuckin loonier than I thought. The villagers believe the red monsters are the truth. They've seen them in person, so they know they are real. They respect them, why? Because the elders told them to. But guess what, the red monsters are a fucking farce!! The same thing happened to you and now you run around insisting that magical god is real just as much as the villagers insist the red monsters are real.
junkmailboy1000 1 year ago

@requiem417 Somewhere in the movie they explain that it was, in fact, Noah doing it.

I guess I was wrong in thinking that because we live in the 21st century we would have progressed in our understanding of humanity and its diversity.
To think that for all our science, philosophy and that extra 2% difference in DNA that separates us from chimpanzees, we would have 'weeded out' the ignorant by now.
Geez....there goes my naïvety again...

I once asked a County Sheriff about that but his answer made no sense.

this is the most underappreciated film of all time. It is probably the greatest story ever made about the triumph of love overcoming all odds.
mycatisromeo 3 years ago 2
It is about that, but it is also about deception & fear. Ironically, the community here is sunk even deeper into fear & delusion because of Ivy's triumph. Even she now thinks that the creatures are real. The parents were driven by fear into this fake world. They used fear to control their children, now the children are taking that fear ever deeper. A classic tragedy. & it was the love of their lost family members which drove them into this world of fear.
VictorLepanto 3 years ago 2
it is also about how they use fear to create a blanket of tranquility, but even controlling fear cannot always be done (the guy stabbed Lucious) There is not perfect utopia.
mycatisromeo 3 years ago
Like all of Shyamalan's movies, this is symbolic. Now, what are symbolic & ultimately mythic foundation for the Lucius & Noahs characters. Are Lucius & Noah Gilgamesh & Enkidu? Why is it that Ivy & not Lucius make the heroic journey. Why does Ivy kill Noah (I mean what is the mythic purpose of the death). Enkidu dies after being humanized by the love of a woman. What other mythic types are being played w/ here?
VictorLepanto 3 years ago 2
what in the fuck are you guys talking about "Fear can be a blanket of tranquolty" what poem is that from
pivot1022 2 years ago
Comment removed
mycatisromeo 2 years ago
i didn't take it from a poem. I made that up. Fear can be a blanket of tranquility. In the movie, they scared people from going into the forest and discovering what was beyond it. They used fear to keep their community at peace, away from the crime of "the towns". Therefore, fear can be a blanket of tranquility.
mycatisromeo 2 years ago
To Romeo's owner,
It is even more complicated then using fear to keep people tranquil.
VictorLepanto 2 years ago
of course the founding parents were conscious of using fear, they had red suits, made sounds in the woods, and came into the village when somebody did something bad.

HistGamer 2 years ago
yea,no one wants to live in the same place for a whole life even the place is great
laikwongc 2 years ago
Christianity is a perfect example. Teaching people to live in fear of sinning and going to hell, but offering redemption for "believing".
Everyone lives in this place. Everyone has a fear that provides a blanket of tranquility. You live in society because you fear the wrath of true nature, society provides a blanket of tranquility. But society is somewhat more dangerous and fragile than nature. You fear getting fired from your job, but the money provides a blanket of tranquility.
mycatisromeo 2 years ago
What does what you just said about society have to do with Christianity?
CommanderGene 2 years ago
The part about society was my response to HistGamers question. Christianity was an example of people living in fear. People who are constantly going to church to pray for their "sins" are in fear of going to hell. Yet the blanket of tranquility that Christianity offers is the belief that if a person lives life a certain way they will go to heaven (a so-called eternity of salvation and perfection). Almost 1/2 the world's population are Christians - I think that has a little effect on society.
mycatisromeo 2 years ago
Yes but unlike the people in the 'Village' Christians aren't afraid to venture outside of a particular boundary nor do they fear death. A better example of the type of fear presented in Village can be found in leftist circles, where fear of the reality of life has placed so many into a cocoon of insecurity.
AdognamedOp 2 years ago
see, the average person seeing this movie doesn't see the connections and make the analysis of the great literary components of this film. Do you know why? Because the average person is Stoopid is as stupid does.
mycatisromeo 2 years ago
People simly need to be in the right frame of mind to look at things symbolically. Most movies aren't like this, not on this level, not consciously. Unless you look at it from the right lense it all looks like nonsense.
VictorLepanto 2 years ago
I'm still suprised how many people hated or didn't like this movie. I think it is very well made, beautiful music, excellent cast and acting, and an awesome story about the power of love. With or without the "in-depth" analysis.

Is the 4th track of the album: Those We Don't Speak Of
edotanzo 3 years ago
Actually, in the beginning of the clip, where they all stand up, the music is from the track "The Vote".
When Evy enters, the piano solo takes over. I don't know where to find this piano solo that lasts only for seconds until Evy says "I'm back, Lucius".
Then the bang and the black screen and the music from here on is, correctly, from the track: "Those We Don't Speak Of". But I also can't find that piano solo-thingy anywhere on the soundtrack.
