This reporter shows what people really felt when something terrible happened like this during such a more classier era. He actually cared and cried for the people lost in the crash, something that people don't do anymore. It shows how people really mattered to each other back then.
dont criticize me...can someone explain this to me besides the obvious disaster...like what caused it? who died?...be glad im interested and watching this instead a music video of kanye west auto tuning again...Thanks!!
People, a disaster is a disaster. It doesn't matter whether 9/11 was worse than this, or whether Hiroshima was worse than the Holocaust or not. People died, it's tragic. That's the point. Videos of tragedies aren't up here so you can argue pointlessly.
you shouldnt be comparing which was worse 9/11 or the hindenburg, or any other disaster, or comparing how many people died, because the fact that several people died in both accidents , is horrific and sad on its own.
@redsux34 yeah but the centeral bank of the united states tried to make 9/11 so the people would loan more money and get our gvt into more debt. but is was in my opinioun the most heartbreaking event in history exept hiroshima
Just saw the crash site last week at Lakehurst. Got to go in it's hangar, too! It's HUGE! I've never seen an aircraft hangar that big. And the floors are still the original brick.
@GreenZeppelin52 So explain to me how winds made this happen. If I'm not mistaken zeppelins were filled with hydrogen. Pretty sure it would take a fire or some type of spark for an explosion like to occur.
This was so terrible.... up until this crash, they had a safety record of 100% and a fatal error somewhere led to the loss of lives (35 out of the 92 passengers)...
@nback11 The remarkable thing about that is that with 92 passengers, so many survived. A hydrogen explosion of that magnitude would be a terrible thing to behold.
I would like to see unedited material of that crash. Whereever I look I can only see footage that has been edited with footage from different perspectives as though it were a movie. I don't like that.
Ich würde gerne mal ungeschnittenes Material sehen. Wo man auch hinsieht, ist das immer mit anderen Blickwinkeln zusammengeschnitten worden. Das finde ich echt schade.
As a child in the 1940's, I listened to a 78 rpm recoding of this broadcast often...no idea why my parents had it. The Challenger disaster was deja' vu.
@flipflopgirl8 They were trying to save people that would later survive. The same types of people risked their lives to run back into the twin towers to save people.
@skinnyera It's a Nazi Vehicle , They used to transport people from Germany during World War 2 , But they stopped making the zeppelin, After they heard of the Hindenburg Crash in 1937. But the Nazis had plans of making Zeppelins before.
@grasslike44 in regards to loss of life, it would be the titanic. it was not caught on film, of course, unlike the Hindenburg. id say the titanic since it was perceived as invincible, the loss of life, and the hollywood movie.
With today's technology, you could probably build a safe airship. and because the airship will travel at low altitudes, you can just throw terroists out the window.
@rdseyer yes, safe mainly since the US held onto safe gases that would keep the airship afloat while Germany had to deal with the flammable source they had. You better be ironic boy or you are an idiot.
@cobra75410 acualy only 30 out of the like 118 people on board died.... most of the people jumped otu of the window and landed on the sand below.. and only one person on the ground died
Does anyone know how close the reporter was to the crash? It looks as if the camera is quite close to the Hidenburg.
I understand the reporter's reaction. It was probably very shocking, not only that the Hidenburg crashed, but to know that everyone on board was dead.
An urban legend has it that Morrison was fired by WLS for his emotional reaction, but according to the station's weekly magazine and Morrison himself, this is not true. In fact, he was highly praised by station management, and the story of how he and Nielsen made the recording was described in detail. It is possible that the story of his being fired came about because Morrison left WLS a year later to work for the Mutual Broadcasting System and that network's New York flagship station, WOR.
What makesw this one so different from the others is that you can actually hear the background noise. The concussion from the explosion and the sound of the steel collapsing as the ship fell to the earth. Amazing and tragic to listen to.
@ZMonster06 At about 0:17-0:19, the recording fades out a bit and then it comes back. This was caused by the shockwave of the explosion vibrating the needle on the recording-equipment. I saw a photograph of the original record, and you seen a really deep groove in it where the blast's shockwave dug the needle into the record.
Now I've seen two videos of this where the reporters say the exact same things but their voices are completely different?... I don't get it. I know obviously there cold be different recordings of the voices making it sound different. But the voices are not even close to sounding similar. Hehe, I'm not suggesting some far out conspiracy shit. I would just like to know the reason for this :)
...At the end it sounds like he says "Honestly it's just a mass of fucking wreckage!" But according to the transcript he said "smoking"... ANYWAY, an amazing peice of history right here.
I know this is horrible and all but "this is one of the worst catastrophes in the world!"... Only like 35 people died... there have been soo much worse even before then.
@IpwnUa11 Yes, but you need to understand that this was the largest zeppelin ever built and this was during the early stages of flight. When he saw this marvel of engineering burst into flames it was just unthought of.
