David might have had some problems managing his "grown up life" but none-the-less he is by far the best college basketball player to ever play the game! Probably the best that ever will! Can you imagine if they could dunk when he was in college? WHOAH!
Yes, David may have a substance abuse problem, but I never heard a bad word about him as a person, and he's still the best college player I've ever seen, Jabbar and Walton inclusive.
He did have a solid head and still does. When you are the man and the franchise, it is different. Wilt handled it by getting bigger. Russell alcohol. Roger Staubach work. Dick Butkus movies and commercials.
You need an another outlet to replace that high. Now for David, it is religion and helping others.
What I look for is bullying towards people when they are abusing, sex, drugs, and alcohol. He had none of that tendency like a Dawkins, Hull, Alzado, or Borg that you see with abusers of drugs, sex, and alcohol. Of course, he may have taken it home typical of any man.
Norm Van Lier said it best. When he came into the league in 1969, everybody was an alcoholic, in the 70's, everybody was a pothead; when he left in 1978, everybody was either on the joint or a cokehead.
Thompson's career was almost destroyed by cocaine. That doesn't make him an evil person, but it does mean that his poor personal habits negatively affected his basketball skills.
And the "everybody did it" defense is worthless with 5-year olds, it certainly shouldn't be used by an adult.
SInce when do you care about 5 year olds? Most parents are snorthing coke in front of them, having affairs, and abusing them, sexually. To a 5 year old, a adult is a worthless, fraud bum who lives off them.
A five year old can see good, bad, and ugly in a person regardless of what deeds they have done. Steve Garvey comes to mind. You know what they say a perfect man is a gay man.
I do. Clearly, you can't raise your child on your own but you need somebody else to do so. In America, you just need to marry a white girl to be a considered a role model.
I said "to be considered" not reality. Mr. Obama has done so much to be a role model. 5 months of office and he didn't get ripped like George W. did. I mean can you imagine Fox networkd not running the State of the Union address.
In short, if you want to be a role model, go white, marry white, you'll be alright by the public or else you will be criticized harshly for every move you make.
You can see why Red won all those championships. He is a great instiller of confidence and a winning attitude.

@mmcneil777 Having Bill Russell and a cast of future hall of famers probably helped too
BillyBadAss53120 6 months ago
@BillyBadAss53120 they were hall of famers because of red being installer of confidence and winning attitude

the best part of these videos is Red's concluding statement at the end to put it all in perspective.

David is that kind of hidden players that could have owned every player in the league if he had a solid head on his shoulders.

Haha, what?
Clearly you didn't understand what I wrote.
5 year olds can do a number of things, reasoning and rational argument, however, are beyond them.
Thus, if you're using excuses that are unacceptable for a child, they should not be acceptable for an adult.
And most parents are snorting coke in front of their kids? I think your childhood experiences may not have been, er, normal...

I'm impressed with your ability to take simply, clear statements and respond with batches of crazy.
This is more a Monty Python sketch than a conversation, so you can go ahead and live in your fantasy world.
So Barack Obama isn't a role model? Interesting argument.

This is actually pretty cool, David Thompson was a high flyer!
It's cool watching Red talking fundamentals and Brian Winter is a sport for going along with this!

David Thompson was a flawless player. If he played today, he would make the current crop of NBA players look like high school kids.
