The description's got something wrong. This is a Dave Stewart composition, not Alan Gowen. Dave Stewart borrowed a little bit from Alan Gowen when he wrote this which is why the two share credits (although this video's description only seem to credit composition (music) to Gowen).
I still have this on vinyl, also have it on CD. It is my number one fav of all time, and I'd like to think I have listened to a lot of music (over 2500 albums, 800 cds).
@MartinFamOC In general, the (intro) main theme is 19/8, with a feel of 3 measures of 7/8, 7/8, 5/8 (19/8). For the section with the obvious different feel duing this theme, it's still 19/8, but the feel is changed to 5 measures of 4/8, 4/8, 4/8, 4/8, 3/8 (again, still 19/8).
@MartinFamOC The solo section is 7/4, with a feel of 2 measures of 5/8 and 9/8. The modulation in the solo has 1 meaure of 6/8, then switches back to 7/4 (5/8, 9/8). The "after-solo" section is in 4/8, then back to main theme of 19/8 (7/8, 7/8, 5/8).
Hope that helps. Please jump in to correct me anyone - I'm not a musician, but I DID sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
@underagedpickle sorry I didn't clarify myself: it's part of Neil's selected "house music" the tunes you hear thru the pa when you arrive and waiting for the show to begin, and I had been wanting to find that song for so long.. Indeed, Rush does not perform Hell's Bells, would be cool to see them take a crack at it..
@mrpentium - I'm 47 and got this album when it came out. Still have the vinyl (but no turntable any more :-( . Still listen to it today via MP3. Brilliant driving music. Bruford's playing is so tight. Check out the UK tracks on YouTube as well - more BB + Alan Holdsworth - ahhh the memories!
@StrawberryJungle Very True. What I meant was that it is note-able that you even ran across this music, and appreciate it, about 30 years later. Teenagers are exposed to crap nowadays, and this music was never mainsteam, even when I was a teenager.....
@mrpentium You're right. I am deeply ashamed and frustrated at the musical ignorance and idiocy of the majority of my generation. What they don't realise is there's generations of fantastic music out there waiting to be rediscovered. With the brilliant tool of the internet I've been able to access music from people like Bruford, Weather Report and Return to Forever with just a few clicks. I don't see why others can't break themselves from awful, soulless modern music and do this.
Definitely gonna try covering this tune on drums.

Thanks, allanberry, for posting what I consider to be some of Allan Holdsworth's most accessable work. Even though he felt the drums were "plodding".

So if he was 10? I was a prog head when I was 9. Some of us just develop a love for great music young.

@mrpentium Musical taste transcends age. Age is nothing to do with it! I'm 17 and love this - music is universal! :)
(Also I realise your comment is about a year old but I felt I needed to say it, lol)
