  • please dont play music between the comparisons. I have to switch my sound up and down and up and down all the time. Just saying ;)

  • Mechanical keyboard needs to be LOUD :)

  • why the fuck is fatboygetdown in the suggested videos> ?????

  • are they 40a or 50a o rings on the keyboards??

  • @MrUnKnown234 same question here :)

  • @MrUnKnown234 I'm wondering this too.

  • @MrUnKnown234 These are 50A O-Rings. As far as we can tell, there is little to no difference in sound between the two types of O-rings. The 40A's mainly provide a slightly softer landing.

  • Hey I was wondering if it made a difference in actual typing. Can it be used just to drown out the sound? Will it feel different in anyway?

  • Very helpful video.

  • I can only assume black switches were created by ninjas.

  • How does this work with KB that has backlightning ? Like the Qpad MK 85. Will the ring perhaps block the light?

  • @Tristate1551 The O-rings do not block out light on backlit keyboards. Since the O-rings don't sit directly against the backside of the key (they rest on the supports along the inside of the keycap), the LED can still pass light around it.

  • Have you tried using these on a backlit keyboard, and how much does it affect the backlight?

  • You have very manly hands. Thank you by the way, helped me out. Think I am going to get a Daskeyboard Ultimate though.

  • @PolarBearsFtw I bought one of them for the price of a WASD keyboard. It wasn't until 3 days later that I first heard about WASD, and I would have gone with them if given the choice over again.

  • Press 3, 5 and 7 to easily compare them against each other back and forth.

  • great video!

man i'm torn between leopold and one of your keyboards...fuuuuuuuuu

  • Are you using the microphone that's attached to the camera?

  • @samisyosam Yes, this video was shot using a Nikon D3100 DSLR camera.

  • @wasdkeyboards No wonder the keyboard that is farther away from the camera sounds drastically different.

You need the source of the sound and the recording device to be the same distance away. Especially if you're doing side by side comparisons of something. Distance has a big effect on pitch and volume.

I don't even know why you're comparing the sounds of keyboards, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do it. This was done the wrong way.

  • @samisyosam they're comparing the sounds of keyboards to show you how loud each one is, you dumbfuck. if you dont care then keep it to yourself. dont be such a dick about it. bitch.

  • @marvelloyalist what a useless comment, says something about the viewers if something as stupid as this is voted as the best comment.

  • @marvelloyalist "dumbfuck", "dick", "bitch". Thanks YouTube for voting this as the best comment. This is the proper way to prove a point.

  • @samisyosam The keyboard in the back sounds drastically different because it has the o-ring mod that WASD offers to dampen the sound of the keys bottoming out. If you did some research, you would find that the overall volume is a major factor for many people considering their first mechanical board. This video demonstrates the differences perfectly fine.

  • @ransom0122 One is farther away from the microphone, giving the closer keyboard an unfair disadvantage.

It doesn't matter if one keyboard is naturally quieter than the other one. If the distances are not equal, it's not a fair comparison. That's the only point I'm driving at. They should be side-by-side, not one in front of the other.

If a "demonstration" requires that I "do some research" to find a better demonstration... doesn't that completely ruin the point of doing a demonstration?

  • @samisyosam When I was referring to doing some research it was in response to you saying," I don't even know why you're comparing the sounds of keyboards." My point was that often when people first look into getting a mechanical keyboard, the overall volume while typing is something they will consider. While the comparison video may not be set up perfectly, it still gets the point across pretty well. Oh well, have a good one.

  • @samisyosam You are correct that there is a slight difference in sound due to the distance. However, the sound difference isn't as drastic as you might think.

You can still use this video to help determine the actual level of noise by comparing the typing sounds while not "bottoming out." They should sound about the same.

The significant noise reduction from O-rings is from them stopping the key from hitting the switch. Which almost completely removes the "clack" that generates the most noise.

  • @wasdkeyboards We got a keyboard from you with brown switches and 40A O-rings. It turns out that the sound of the key coming back up after being released quickly (maybe "topping out") is what is making most of the noise now. It would be good if there was some way to mitigate this.

  • @err0neous Yes, the natural rebound of the switch will clack. But there's no simple way of dealing with this as that point of contact happens inside the casing of the switch.

  • I plan on ordering on this holiday season. I was wondering how drastic the sound was between the different types. It does not seem as noticeable as I had worried. I cant wait to get one in my hands!

  • wish i could afford a keyboard from you guys TT nice vid
