@superbura9 Dude, I was 5 when I penetrated your mom the last time. I can come to your family again so you can see how it has grown in the past 15 years.
Way to much paste ..and that looks nothing like a Core 2 duo or even a Quad core. You shouldn't post video's like this unless you're a professional. I happen to know.
@mattmga If you are using a newer processor I would recomend that you follow the directions provided by AS5 as they are going to be optimal. This video was made for the application of AS5 on an older Intel P4 proc which at that time used this method. Apparently people are still having an issue grasping the fact that this video was not created when we got dual and quad cor proc.
Ubertiny, I read the comments here after the fact, and spread the AS5 out over my processor. Should I clean off and start over, or does it make that big a difference?
@2009RaisedFist You do realize this video was done with an Intel P4 processor and back at that time it was actually the process done in spreding the thermal paste across the proc. Do your research before commenting.
1. not all new CPUs have the pin-less design, amd possessors still use pins
2. this is the absolute worst way to put thermal paste on a cpu, only put a small dab in the center of it and use the force of the heatsink to force the paste in a outward direction, this method will have air bubbles in between the heatsink and the cpu which i bad for it
Personally, I would recommend spreading it just shy of the outer edges. The pressure from placing your heatsink should spread any excess compound to the edges.
'Newer CPU's don't have pins'? That's only newer Intel CPUs - AMDs do have pins. Also that's a bit thick that paste - it should really be transparent since it's only really to fill in the microscopic imperfections on the surfaces. Using too much reduces thermal conductivity to the heatsink.
One thing's for sure, it works well. It's brought the temps. on my AMD XP2600 Barton down by about 3-4ºc. I'd recommend Akasa TIM CPU and Heatsink cleaner for cleaning the Heatsink and CPU die thoroughly before applying AS5.
i can see AS5 all over the edges of your cpu.. never apply AS5 like this.. AS5 will conduct electricity. So if you get in weird places like the edges or slightly under the processor you will short out something !!!
I'm just so confused by you, yes I've read all the replies and yes I realise you acknowledged that you used too much in the video. But why keep that image in the video? I'm obviously watching this because I want to get it right when I do it, how is it helpful to me to see what too much looks like?
If the guy telling you how much to use and explaining the picture shows too much is not enough for you to understand then maybe you are too fucking stupid. The video is ok otherswise. The guy made amistake that he points out so you don't do it. For a person of even modest IQ that is enough... Why don;t you show us the right way instead of knocking other people. What an ass hole...
You only need to put a VERY thin line of this stuff on dual/quad intels and a SMALL drop in the middle of AMD dual/quads. And you dont need to apply it, when you put your heatsink back on you can just that as the applicator to coat the heatspreader.
What about a Radeon x1950xt? The thermal grease or whatever burnt up before, now I need to replace it (all crumbly) I'm assuming the instructions are similar, but the amount is the same as well?
The website says just make a line of paste on the CPU and put the heatsink on top of it. It will spread out on its own, you don't need to smear it. Is this way of doing it effective?
Hey, very good. Have you read any of the previous replies to this video. It has been mentioned many times that this is in fact an older way of doing this. Try reading next time.
If your CPU is in your mobo you increase the chance of damaging other components when applying the paste and secondly he said himself that a small dab in the middle will do, was it necessary to point out what the man had already pointed out?
well i just put liek an entire tube of the generic shit on, and i'm running at 27 degrees celcius on an amd opteron 185 (best processor for socket 939).
Actually, you do not need to spread the AS5 on your CPU, unless you do not have a heat spreader, which the one in the example does. You just need a dot in the middle for single core, and like rgs4627 said, a vertical line for dual core. A little will go a long way, and then you are supposed to slightly rotate your heat sink on it to spread it out all you need.
Many people have many different ways. I feel that all of them are very useful and if you really look at it, they all work to. Like you said a little goes a long ways. To much holds in heat, to little causes the heat to not transfer properly.
The Arctic Silver website says spreading it around yourself will set in air bubble- not good. Applying just a dot and rotating the heat sink will apply enough and will spread it out adequately. The only thing actually making heat is a little tiny square under the heatsink about an eighth of the actual heat spreader surface.
using something like a credit card, drivers licence, someting straight and hard enough... Can I use my pen!s?
Kenji314159 11 months ago
@Kenji314159 ...you can probably use your penis because it's probably the same size as a credit card i.e. very small and extremely thin. Good luck!

On the site they say for Quad Cores to use the "BB" or "pea" method. I just get a bit nervous about the heat sink spreading it evenly.

actually no..arctic silver 5 does not conduct electricity. Its just very slightly capacitive. Look on the website if you dont believe me.

yea I thought thats what they claim is it has bits of metal in it..? Did I read something wrong?
Also spread method can cause air pockets.
