When you turn it to 2.35:1, doesn't it actually cut your original frame to make this effect?

@unnombremuydificil2 That is correct. The XHA1s is only capable of shooting 4:3 or 16:9. The 2.35:1 letterboxing was done in Final Cut Pro with a widescreen matte effect. The effect simply crops the top and bottom portion of the frame.

@Jonogone you know a trick you can try, put a little bit of tape over the top and bottom of your veiwfinder so you can tell which parts you are gonna cut out later. so you dont cut out anything you may need later.

@jackie20ization They're both great cameras, and neither is necessarily better than the other depending on what you use them for. I own a Canon 7d which has great image quality, but I use my XHA1s for the majority of work I do simply because of it's functionality.

@macktysontv No 35mm adapter was used, this was how the camera came out of the box. You can achieve this depth of field by zooming all the way in and keeping your iris open all the way.

Dude very nice video 1 question, i have FC express and it doesnt have 3 way color corrector, what are the specific details of that setting, like since i dont have that setting what can i do to create it (ex. lower the backs, or higher midtones)

If I remember right, I lowered the blacks to make them a little deeper, then lowered the mids a tiny bit, and boosted the highs to blow out the whites a little. then I desaturated it by maybe 10-15%. Glad you like the look, Hope this helps!

I want to purchase it to shoot video for internet distribution, but I'm a little concerned with the lack of progressive scan and the effect on image quality. @KevinIrwinFilms The 2.35:1 letterboxing was done in Final Cut Pro. There is a filter called "widescreen" under the "matte" folder. Inside the filter you can choose the aspect ratio that you would like to be letterboxed.

The kodak zi8 is an awesome camcorder. The footage is as good, if not better than most camcorders that are thousands of dollars more than it. Look up Kodak Zi8 footage. The camera is amazing.

It records to tape. You can also capture to hard drive if you get something called a Quickstream, which connects through firewire.

hey no problem. Just if you need interchangeable lenses then go with the (pricier) XL H1. I use both and they work about the same. Or you could get a 35mm adapter. Almost every XH A1 user I know of uses a 35mm adapter like the letus35 EXECPT ME! Dx it pisses me off sometimes... I really want(and need) one.
