theres loads of you! but i think the actings a bit shoddy, when those cannoneers are nearly skewered by pikes they just roll of calmly, but still great, and great sounding
i'm a pikeman in sir thomas tyledleys regiment of foot, ECWS. we train for one weekend per year, the day before each muster, and drill each day before a battle. the most dangerous part is falling over in a push, cos ppl fall on top of you.
A lot of training would have to have been done to stop any accident from happening. The real thing must have been horrific to have been in. I've a Napelonoic Reactment battle few years ago in Ramsgate.
I think the war was kida pointless lol the english armies could only fight on its stomach so in winter food was scarse and campains could only be fought in sumemr lol
Just plain stupid to fire all the muskets at once.
Smartest thing would be to have the men form up in 3 lines.
Front line fires then ducks and reloads, 2nd line fires then ducks and reloads, then the third line fires and reloads. By then the first line is done reloading and is ready to fire again.
Anyway, it looks like they are enjoying this atleast.
Remember that these blocks of musketeers would of been from 100 to maybe over 1,000 people. And the muskets themselfs arn't at all accurate unless stood right infront of them, so the only way they could take down an enemy pike/musket block is too all fire at once so the lead balls would be coming at them like machine gun fire, wiping out a hell off alot more people.
But the time of the Civil War volley fire was recognized as being very impractical. After a regiment fires a volley the entire unit is now vulnerable while they reload. Firing by file by company became the norm and it also ensured that a continuous fogbank of gunsmoke remained in front of the unit and helped to conceal mask it from enemy fire.
Put the video exactly 3 minutes in as the pike commander pushes his soldiers back, the first fire of muskets go, then two bits of smoke come out his ears.. haha!
Very nice video. Good to see the pike come in at point and then engage - although the chaps in the background obviously decided that they preferred to form wigwam after the first advance!
Muskets nearest the camera spoiled the effect a bit by complaining about being loaded. As a sergeant often in charge of a musket division I would either have fired rapidly as the pike division advanced or backed off in the face of them firing giving ground.
are the soldiers in gray royalist or parlaimentarian ??

Actually its smart to have all muskets fire at once. Maximum damage. It was used alot in the 18th and 19th centuries.
