Wow that girl in the red shirt goes all out on the whipping huh. Its pretty sad that these girls cant get their horses to preform without using whips. I dont need a whip to get my gelding to run barrels. He absolutely loves em and goes all out anyway.
@CHEVYedsf well maybe when your runnin in the NFR as one of the tope 15 barrel racers in the world w a 100K horse youll understand. Whipping only encourages the horse to continue pushing thru til the end and the horse barely gets tapped with it. going that speed the rider can barely tap the horse so it hardly feels it. Those are the most consistent horses in the barrel world so maybe when you get at their level you can talk.
@3BarrelRacer I dont need to wait until I get to that level. I have no interest in perusing barrel racing outside of what I do locally. There is no excuse for whipping a horse to get it to run faster. If you can't get it to run its fastest without a whip, then you need to take a look at what YOU are doing wrong, not the horse.
@CHEVYedsf ok well maybe you dont want to be at their level but they do and their the best who know what their doing and race for hundreds of thousands of dollars.whipping doesnt even hurt the horse, it looks like it would but half those whips have little peices of leather or feathers and the end of them which is what hits the horse. if it was abusive it wouldnt be allowed.and they dont need to look at what their doin cuz their obv. doin just fine runnin in the NFR.
Ha if i hit my barrel horse like that he'd play kool till the last barrel then he'd show he yet another peace to his crazy past... the Bucking Bronc part :P I wish i could go to that level some day but i think i might need a new horse :)
You all might want to open your eyes and see, they are champions, all you idiots arn't. Yes those fast, graceful, and amazing horses look so abused dont they? REALLY?! Horses wouldn't move like that if they were upset or hurt.
I'm a hunter/jumper and learning to barrel race so I can go for 'all around' at our World Show in a month. I'm gonna tell both sides that this is freakin' hard!! I thought I could just go learn to turn and haul ass and that'd be it, wrong! I'm sure if you barrel girls wanted to learn the art of jumping it'd be the same way. My hat is off to you, however. I'm practicing hard, but I'm sure I'll fall flat on my face- none the less, I'm having a total BLAST learning and my horse is LOVING it!

these girls are talented. but money can always buy a really fast horse. i know not everyone is like that but i know a few girls whos daddys buy them some $50,000 horse and they barely ride them except for the barrel races. and then they win everything and the ones who actually ride their horses and work with them get nothing
I agree, I use a whip and it doesn't abuse my horse. It just gives her a push. Some horses you dont have to use one on and some you do. And have you ever tried to control a hot headed barrel horse getting ready to run in an alley gate lexicharlene? My horse isn't pro like theres and she is very hard to hold back. When they know their job and they want to go do it, you cant really hold them back very well considering they are so much stronger than you could ever think about being.
REAL riders should care more about their horses' performance. Not how many times they lay a whip across their rump.
When you people doing all this criticizing make it to the level that these women are at, I gauruntee you we STILL won't listen to you when you whine and complain about how you don't like seeing these PROFESSIONALS ride the way they ride. These ladies are amazing. Period.
@makedamnserbitch I totally agree, i barrel Race WITHOUT A WHIP, yup, because i care more about the horse than the money, oh i have one lots to, so there is a more effective way than abuse
And if you hit your horse once or twice, and they still go the same speed, THEY ARENT GOING TO GO ANY FASTER. So continuous hitting really isn't necessary.
@lillythehorselover you dont barrel race obviously if you did you wouldnt say that and my guess is ou are dressage or jump well i am a mississippi back woods cowgirl so lets get this straight you have no NOT even one right to say that ah sure well just go in there and ollygag arund !!!
@barrelstar1 haha well ur wrong i barrel, i game and i win! iv traind my horse so that when i move my hands up on his neck he takes of as fast as he can! and i hate dressage, but i do love to jump! and i dont haha lollygag around i play to win, and i do. if u wana learn how to train your horse with out whipping and kicking it to death, just ask.
aw cmon! you moved the camera a bunch on the best one!!! i didnt get to see the time and i could hear it good...i thought the last one was the best...
I think its so funny that many of you can criticize these women when they are top 15 in the WORLD and your NOT. Don't worry about the way they ride or whip too much, because I got news for you, it WORKS!
@flyhperformancehorse amen sister they dont know what thier talking about barrelracing is HARD work especially in the heat and wat it takes to train them these girls have doe it all so shut yur holes and quit criitizing these girls!!!!!!! P.S. they are probaly show jumpers or some one that rides english and doesnt have a hing to do with rodeo
@flyhperformancehorse amen!! I agree totally, there's a reason that they are there and you people AREN'T!! They're the best and you're not, so don't take out you're jealousy in your comments on this video.
I'm getting a horse soon that is world champion fast. He's built to the extreme. I don't know if he's this fast, I'm too young for the NFR and WPRA. lol I'm only 14 and I just started last year!!
to betsugs1: you dont need to change a horses lead they will change it by them self so there is no reason to change it.. i dont understand why everyone thinks horses are so incapable of everything shouldnt they go around the barrel on the lead that they are most comfortable on?
now im not trying to start shit but it depends on th ehorse. I have four barrel and gaming mares, three of them all change the leads themselves but my mare Foxx won't and you have to do it or she wont drop her shoulder into her second barrel and will take it wide. And as far as the most comfortable lead, some horses can, a lot of them trip if they're on the wrong lead. Liek I said, all depends ont he horse, I've been racing for 17 years now. Done clinics and lessons with the best in the biz
umm you said "you have to do it or she wont drop her shoulder into her second barrel" and thats something you don't want your horse to do! you want to keep your horse picked up and collected not et them drop into the turn that makes them drop into the barrel!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
well ive been told you want their shoulder dropped after their flank passes the barrel and thats the way I've always done it and it works damn well for me. Especially on the second barrel i want my mare to drop so when her flank passes she can shoot forward more accuratly to the thrid barrel. hitting it becasue they drop is the riders faukt for not holding them off until their flank passes
Anything that impedes forward motion puts time on the clock. Having to "hold them off", is slowing you down. You never want to push a horse past the barrel ("after their flank passes"). Extra steps cost you seconds. Proper collection allows you to go into a turn, sit down, pick up the inside rein, LIFT the shoulder, shape the ribcage, driving the inside hind leg under the horse for a snappy turn as he wraps(not runs past the barrel), and comes out cleanly in line for the next turn.
Yea, but it could lead to a crossfiring if they don't change, which then, they can hurt themselves. I was told that at the Charmayne James clinic I went to a couple of years ago.
I'm not trying to start anything, but my mare, I have to remind but my gelding I don't need to he does it on her own.
did u (classymis) film this off your tv?? if you did what tv service do u have and what channel?? i hope to be that good of a barrel racer some day.....
if you run barrels your know that you need to head into your first barrel on the correct lead. When coming up a chute you have to bend your horse inorder to get that correct lead. These horses are so fired up they just bend a little more then usual. their rider is probably pushing their hip so they dont take off right away as well
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS you will die in seven days if you don't post this comment on at least 10 other videos in the next hour, if you do tomorow will be the best day of your life
