I like how they pronounce "special session" as "spayshel sayshen." What accent is that exactly? Like people who say "warshed" instead of "washed." Or "traysure" instead of "treasure." Or "Obama" instead of "Newt." Wait....
Anyone notice how that gang emblem looks "suspiciously" like the British Union of Fascists' symbol? Which means, on top of being punk idiots they're Nazi wannabes too.
@TimelordR You took the words right out of my mouth...that city council wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they were confronted by gang members and jd's in this era.
I love how stark and dramatic the plot of this short is. It's like a teenage version of "On the Waterfront", with the gang in place of the corrupt labor union.
Except, of course, "On the Waterfront" was a masterpiece, and this is one of the most unintentionally hilarious educational shorts around.
i think they may have gotten some older kids to play teens, but for the most part ppl just looked older then. like on Twilight zone...they will show a man that looks late 50's and balding and Rod Serling will narrate "this is bob jones, age 33 from baltimore..." blah blah. i dont know what it was then. maybe the hats everyone wore all the time aged them. lol.
They were probably in their early or mid 20's but people back did tend to look older then people of a similar age today. Even as late as the 70's this was the case. Archie Bunker was only supposed to be about 50 (the age that Carrol O'Connor was at the time) when All in the Family first began, but he looked more like he was in mid 60's.
What's sad is, there's been like thirty kids killed in the Chicago area from shooting, beatings, what have you, and they're probably still able to drive wherever they like.
That, and the man who was savagely beaten by the delinquents the night before. Plus, I think the football jock guy mentioned that delinquency- related incidents (Vandalism, etc., undoubetdly the work of the evil leather jacket gang) were greatly on the rise in the community, I think the attack on Jamie's dad was supposed to have been the last straw that led to all those regulations being pushed.
Don't lull yourself into a false sense of security! Those punks are organized! They hit a SCUBA gear joint not two weeks ago! They're everywhere, I tell ya!
Wow. A Tony Bouza reference. That's REEEEALLY obscure if you live outside of Minnesota. (He was a Minneapolis police chief who ran for governor in the 90's.)
"You boys haven't been movin' the stuff very well!"
You gotta love how the delinquents act all tough and hardcore around the other teens, yet are scared into silence by a little old lady teacher! Maybe she made an example out of one of them in the past!
"I think these students are right, too!"
That's weird, since none of the students had really said anything of significance up to that point.
Yeah - they just kind of barged in and yelled "You're not being fair!" without waiting to be fairly acknowledged or anything. It is a community meeting - you need rules. Without rules, teens can get rather --- well, delinquent.
@dfirest1 "These lawless punks drive superb muscle cars! I say we need a regulation to up the horsepower and down the gas mileage in all vehicles used in the city! That'll give us an edge!"

And realized that it's not the teenagers who delinquents. It's the people who made educational films like this one who were.
