One can only imagine what could have happened had Ted Ginn jr had not injured himself on the first play of the game. The result might have been different as he was such a big part of the offense that when he was out the gator defense could key in on the ohio state QB.

Just to correct a few errors with the facts below. The reason the SEC doesn't 'come up north late season' is because NO teams do! The B10/12 schedules the league games all late season meaning all ooc games are played early.
Secondly the SEC doesn't get 'easy' bowl games. The SEC routinely has a lower ranked SEC team facing a higher ranked other conference opponent which is exacerbated by 2 SEC teams playing in the BCS most years.

The rules are the rules and 5 ohio state players broke the rules and therefore should be penalized for it. I think they should be suspended for the sugar bowl. If that happend to SEC school (like Alabama or arkansas) then our players wouldn't have to sit. Also, the ruling is appealable (I bet reduced 2 games)

If the ohio state playes used their money to buy something (say an ohio state car accessory) and later sold it then it would not be a big deal. However since what they what they sold were gifts sanctioned by the ncaa and later sold them is a violation according to some old ncaa rule. Also, next year ncaa will create a new by-law that forbids any future scam newton cases.

@josh19852008 Umm, Yes Mark May did say that. I watched the "breaking news" section when it came on. Marky May said if this happened to SEC school then players would be suspened for the bowl game. He also gave example bout Aj Green (WR at Georgia) that did virtually the same and he had to sit games that season, not post-pone punishment like they did for ohio state. Mark May also said that ncaa tries not to punish big ten or pac 10 schools compared to SEC schools.

Michigan got busted by ncaa for excessive practice hours (b/c ncaa athletes are "student-athletes", meaning student comes 1st), 1st time ever Michigan got in trouble with ncaa. Iowa has had 2 players kicked off their team, both for drug/criminal related issues for 2010 season.

I wonder if some of these kids will say they will stay and later enter the draft. Nobody and very very kids have Honor and are trustworthy in 21st century, that's from sea to sea. However, for ncaa violations committed this season I think they should be suspended for game or games this season, meaning I think they should sit for sugar and get play all games 2011.

Alabama contacted your buckeyes to either set up either home/home series or neutral site game. your buckeye's athetic dept said we (Alabama) could come up to ohio, but they would Not face Alabama in Tuscaloosa, nor neutral site game.

Also, atleast other schools like decided to play big SEC schools v. teams like vandy or kentucky in football-Alabama/Penn State (2010/2011), Alabama/Michigan (2012 neutral site), Alabama/Michigan State (ironic faced in 2011 bowl game, 2013/2014).

Just to correct a few errors with the facts below. The reason the SEC doesn't 'come up north late season' is because NO teams do! The B10/12 schedules the league games all late season meaning all ooc games are played early.
Secondly the SEC doesn't get 'easy' bowl games. The SEC routinely has a lower ranked SEC team facing a higher ranked other conference opponent which is exacerbated by 2 SEC teams playing in the BCS most years.

@josh19852008 nevertheless, 5 ohio state players were found GUILTY for breaking A ncaa rule and therefore they have committed a ncaa violoations (regardless of personal opinion or not). The rules are the rules and 5 ohio state players broke the rules and therefore should be penalized for it. I think they should be suspended for the sugar bowl. If that happend to SEC school (like Alabama or arkansas) then our players wouldn't have to sit. Also, the ruling is appealable (I bet reduced 2 games)

@josh19852008 ncaa always looks stuiped and bunch of hypocrits. The whole thing comes down to this. If the ohio state playes used their money to buy something (say an ohio state car accessory) and later sold it then it would not be a big deal. However since what they what they sold were gifts sanctioned by the ncaa and later sold them is a violation according to some old ncaa rule. Also, next year ncaa will create a new by-law that forbids any future scam newton cases.

@josh19852008 I honestly think that ohio state should be kinda counting their blessings b/c the 5 game suspension for all 5 players of 2011 season is appealable. I have no doubht that sentence will be reduced. Possibly to just 2 games (if these players come back for 2011 instead of declaring for 2011 nfl draft) so can get more money for ohio state/miami hurricane game. Also, like Mark May said-if this had happened to SEC school then the players would be suspended for the bowl game.

@josh19852008 Umm, Yes Mark May did say that. I watched the "breaking news" section when it came on. Marky May said if this happened to SEC school then players would be suspened for the bowl game. He also gave example bout Aj Green (WR at Georgia) that did virtually the same and he had to sit games that season, not post-pone punishment like they did for ohio state. Mark May also said that ncaa tries not to punish big ten or pac 10 schools compared to SEC schools.

@josh19852008 ohio state has 5 playes suspended for 5 games by ncaa for ncaa violations. ohio state claimed it was lack of education/institional control on ohio state's part (that means they were busted). Michigan got busted by ncaa for excessive practice hours (b/c ncaa athletes are "student-athletes", meaning student comes 1st), 1st time ever Michigan got in trouble with ncaa. Iowa has had 2 players kicked off their team, both for drug/criminal related issues for 2010 season.

If you look at what the NCAA was investigating it was not about sold memrobilia! Every team in the country sells mermobilia! The NCAA is being stupid! @josh19852008 I agree that scam newton should have to sit for the bowl game. This case was reported by Miss State to SEC officals in January 2010. Took FOREVER to get to ncaa. Finally ncaa gets to see the case, but they look the other way b/c of money. the scam artist brings in alot of money from fans to SEC Title game (Atlanta area) and now big time bcs title game. I agree every team/athletic dept sells memrobila,but players are not allowed to sell their assigned memrobilla/ncaa gift.

@josh19852008 I think it was right move 4 tressell to get those players to committ to 2011 season for them to play in sugar bowl. I wonder if some of these kids will say they will stay and later enter the draft. Nobody and very very kids have Honor and are trustworthy in 21st century, that's from sea to sea. However, for ncaa violations committed this season I think they should be suspended for game or games this season, meaning I think they should sit for sugar and get play all games 2011.

Those 5 ohio state players broke ncaa stating no ncaa athelte can sell registered gifts registered to specific player by ncaa for personal benefit. PERIOD. ncaa let those players play b/c they wanted ohio state to FINALLY beat SEC team. Ironic 1 of the 5 players suspended made game winning INT.

@Bamaguy2004 Also, that game against arkanasas proved that ohio state would not last a full season in SEC. ohio state had 7 or more players drop like flies due to injury or cramps (in flipping dome in january, imagine playing football in open home stadium in South when its 98 temp and 105+ in humidy). If ohio state can't last 1 game w/o cramps and injuries, NO FREAKING WAY OHIO STATE COULD GO 8 GAME SEC SEASON SCHEDULE WITH ONLY 1 LOSS. NO WAY.

Atleast teams like penn state, michigan state (Alabama/Michigan State, home/home series for 2013/2014 season) and michigan (2012 neutral site) steps up to play SEC. Alabama contacted your buckeyes to either set up either home/home series or neutral site game. your buckeye's athetic dept said we (Alabama) could come up to ohio, but they would Not face Alabama in Tuscaloosa, nor neutral site game.

@BuckeyeNation1807 if u want Alabama to come up North in November I suggest u file a petition to the Big 10 conference/Big 10 commish, if he approves then the all AD's in the Big 10 have to agree to open up November games for Non-con. Then, have to apply same rules to the SEC and SEC won't agree because unlike big 10, all games in the SEC matter and November in the SEC (except for vols) have toughest games for final games of the season.

@BuckeyeNation1807 Before you say ohio state had full schedule, Alabama AD contacted ohio state AD about either home/home series or neutral site game 1 year prior to ohio state announced they would face miami hurricanes in home/home series. Also, atleast other schools like decided to play big SEC schools v. teams like vandy or kentucky in football-Alabama/Penn State (2010/2011), Alabama/Michigan (2012 neutral site), Alabama/Michigan State (ironic faced in 2011 bowl game, 2013/2014).

Alabama also contacted (Florida State, they agreed to neutral site game which Alabama lost), notre dame (whom flat out refused), clemson (agreed to neutral site game), va tech (agreed to neutral site game), penn state (agreed to home/home series), michigan (agreed to 2012 neutral site game), and michigan state 2-3 years ago (agreed to home/home series for 2013/2014).

That was never so b/c ohio state refused to play Alabama for home/home series or neutral site game, but did respond that Alabama could come up to ohio to have 1 game, but would not come down to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama in ttown. This was done before ohio state announced they would have home/home series with miami hurricanes, never in print.

@Bamaguy2004 Actually this was a lie made by a Tuscaloosa newspaper. Alabama refused to play at OSU unless they were paid excessive amounts of cash. OSU rejected it. They counter offered with a home game in Tuscaloosa and a neutral site game, most likely the superdome. Andy Geiger essentially called this insulting saying in that case, Alabama could just come up and play at OSU if they were that desperate, seeing as OSU had ALREADY locked up miami for a one game series.

hate that they went by rankings for the bowls. the big ten was a 3 way tie, Michigan state beat wisconsin, and wisconsin beat ohio state. michigan state and ohio state didnt play. michigan state and wisconsin should have got the BCS bowls. that would mean ohio state would have played in the Capital one Bowl against Alabama. they didnt want that.

@ProZack91488 Ok first of all Ohio State did not get to choose. Secondly Michigan St. was shlacked by Iowa. Ohio St beat them. So there is your reason Michigan St was left out. Iowa beat Missouri in their bowl game. OSU beat Arkansas in theirs. I highly doubt Michigan St. could have beaten either of those teams.
