I think Koroush criticizes overclocking unfairly. if your CPU passes 24 hours of Prime95, the overclock is stable, no exceptions, seriously. I have my Q9550 @ 3.7GHZ (with only a small voltage increase and runs cooler than his i7) and my 4870 at 850/999 without a single stability issue for 6 months so far.

If you want to play GTA 4 at 1600x1200 Medium settings 30 for all, and have it smooth as butter and do it as cheaply as possble, get an i7 920 and a $100 HD 4770 512MB. I use this and it never skips a beat even when smashing into 10+ cop cars, etc.

DX11 hasn't been released yet. The latest DX release is DX 10.1 which is an ATI exclusive. Also yes W7 gives back the 10% loss in efficiency that vista took. Performance wise it's exactly the same as XP

system "tweaking" is not going to add much of anything to the performance of this game. that 285 with a shitload of cache memory is key. a core 2 duo/quad would run the same way.

Yes it will. You should take a visit and actually read the TGTC contents before making any assumption.

VRAM is just a very small part of GPU performance. About the GTX285 having a lot of VRAM, it only has a GB of VRAM. Rockstar thinks you need 2GB of VRAM to max out GTAIV. The -norestrictions command line has to be used to max the game out.

A Yorkfield C2Q may run the game as well, but not a C2D. Quad-core technology is actually essential for GTAIV to run smoothly on maximum settings.
