Hunter's youngest son was hit by a train, and his elder son and wife were killed in a fire. The deer represents the grief and guilt caused by his inability to protect his family as he wanders the streets, stumbling though hallucinations, and tries to get away from from the pain. The only way to do so is to end it all.

This is, of course, my entirely subjective reading. I am probably completely wrong.

if you notice, the 2nd son almost gets taken by the fire too. the man smashes the water-tower and saves the 2nd son from the fire, but then the son ends up drowning as a result. this little part of the video expresses that idea the man is powerless to stop the repercussions

my explanation:

Man shoots deer (the deer and its death can represent many different things. my interpretation is that the bullet he sent into the deer was "evil.") the deer, being innocent, didn't retain this evil; so it spills out of the deer with a bloody vengeance. (Karma train coming)

he chases the bloody vengeance to the portrait of his family and touches it only to be bombarded by the resultant events.

his family dies to train/fire/drowning. he kills himself so the evil can finally rest

So maybe the dear is supposed to be himself all along, like his dark side or something and he just ends up killing himself. In the lyrics he says "its you and me against me" What I understood was that he is fighting himself.

They don't show the wife dying, just her losing the ring which I guess is to show that their marriage ended. I think the video may refer to an addict (it could just be any inner fight or even a reflection of a nightmare), but the lyrics don't quite line up for me.
