  • Thank you for sharing..so sorry you had to go through this though.

  • I had the same experience today! It was the most horrible experience ever. I too researched everything prior to having the lap band and all I found were positive things. They did not even numbe me and from here on out we are doing the fill differently....FLOUROSCOPY ETC...VIA XRAY

  • well thanks for the update i got my band bt yet to get a fill ill keep watching your progress

  • ok im supposed to get surgery next week the digging and clicking idk know im a scarddy cat

  • I feel so bad that I haven't updated this. Don't be worried. Now I know that she did not know what she was doing. The most recent fill I had last week took 30 seconds, if that and it didn't hurt at all! Best wishes to you!

  • Í hope you complained!!!

  • hey monica, I'm 10 days post op and I'm so happy to hear your story. The information you shared is priceless. I too am nervous about my first fill and i'm glad i know that if this happens something is terribly wrong! please post another video update so I know how u made out!

  • hi. i made a video response for you. i dont think i can get it to attach to your page but if you go to my you tube account you will find the answer. thanks lapbandmichael

  • Ohhhhh man!!!!! Monica I hope you let the Dr. and the center know! My goodness!! Loking forward to your update!

  • I feel so bad for you. I would at least talk to your surgeon about it. And I wouldn't have her do any more on you.

Had my first fill last wk. Also painful and lots of poking. Nurse did it - I don't want her next time.

  • I am so sorry you had this horrific experience. I suggest you speak with the surgeon and get them to check your band. You shouldn't have to be treated like that. You deserve netter!! You are not a drama queen. I totally sympathise with you. LOL Karen xx

  • Yeah...this is why people who do not know what they are doing shouldn't be touching your band. If she punctures your tubing and you get a leak, who is going to have to pay for it??????????????? YOU WILL!

  • Hi,I am really sorry that happen to you, however it seems like you need a vaca to turn up your happyness you seem so sad,I pray for you to have better luck from here on out

  • I would have been like, Ma'am, I will come back when you have the right needles, or someone else can do this for me. I hope no one has that experience including yourself ever again! I am so sorry that happened. I would report that to her higher ups.

  • used wrong needle? only use huber needles(non-coring needle; u wouldnt want to core out the soft part of the port). sounds like she didnt know what she was doing or the port is too deep. When accessing a port ur supposed to be able to feel the boundries with your fingers before u put the needle in. DEFINATELY call your m.d. not so worried about the saline leaking into the abd space but leak may cause bacteria in the band they may have to replace it. watch temp or flu symptoms. document evthing

  • ohh hun im so sorry that you had such a haorrible experience...to me it sounds like she wasnt sure what she was doing....cos she should normally feel for the port with her hand first then put the needle in. Im so sorry hun! xx I hope your next fill is better, and you dnt get that same woman!

The only way that u will know if the tubbing is punctured is when you actually get a fill, because they will flush the fluid through...and test.

    xx

  • I am so sorry that you had to go through that for your first fill. There are 2 PA's that do the fills at my doc's office and I have had fills from both of them. They never use numbing, and it always taks just a few seconds. The nurse you saw obviously doesn't know what she was doing. It should not take that long or be that painful. You should demand that you get a fill under flouro the next time to make sure your tubes and port are ok. Tell them everything and take care of "you". big hugs Becky

  • I'm sorry that you had such a bad experience with your first fill. You really should make a complaint about this incident. You will need it documented for your insurance in the event that something wrong DID happen. I pray everything is fine and that things work out better on your next attempt.

  • go to see the doc

    get her in trouble

    get it checked out

    its life threatening

who cares if she is nice this is your life

  • Monica, I am so sorry to hear about what happened. You are the patient, (the customer) and they did NOT provide the professional service that they are paid to provide. It sounds like she had no business practicing on you. I think you need to contact the surgeon and inform him. You did the right thing by stopping. You need to escalate this, and if she gets in trouble, so be it. It sounds like she is not skilled enough yet to perform the task.

  • I am sorry you had such a bad experience. I think that only the surgeon that did the surgery should do the fills--or a least some surgeon. I have had two fills, and I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles (I always close my eyes) and I didn't feel a thing because my surgeon did them. I say insist on a surgeon for your next fill. Good luck.

  • Wow, I'm so sorry that happened to you, but I do think it's important you shared it for all the other people who are getting their first fill. You don't have to go in there with the intention or thought that you're going to get this nurse in trouble, just tell your experience. I hope your port and tubing are intact and I'm sure the next fill will be a better experience.

  • omg you poor thing... That is my worst nightmare... especially as I haven't had a fill yet! I hope everything works out for you!

  • You are going to have to get this nurse in trouble, because you are going to have to pay for the outpatient surgery to get your tubing fixed if it was damaged, it will be another surgical procedure. I wish you luck and I hope you can get this all resolved before classes start. Please let me know how it all turns out. I think there is something to be said for fluoroscopy, this proves it for me. Have a great week, from Sherry.
