I just got my Kershaw Clash, it's insanely sharp. And I changed the clip position with no issues. My Spyderco Tenacious however...I removed the blade before disassembling the handle. 2 of the screws that are in handle came stripped, and it's impossible to remove them, so now I can't reassemble my Tenacious.
Hey dude, get in touch with customer support. They will fix for ya. Its just a "product", even Mercedes can go wrong. That is why you have warranty and customer service. I had screws bad on my ZT and Benchmade....its just a screw.
Wow, sounds like you're cursed with some blades. Hope you have better luck in the future. I would hate to spend good cash and keep getting problem blades.
It's a tiny ass screw thats Loctited. They'll send you more if you call them. I own over twelve Kershaws and have had zero issues; even after changing pocket clips. The issue is trivial at best.
@fredboy007 Trivial for you because like you stated you never had problems! Me like others on here have had many problems with there cheap shit! When i spend my money whether 2 or 200 dollars i want my moneys worth! did you see the od1 video attached here i got a new knife that was defective out of the box no screw problems but a bent blade and was made in the USA so there Quality Control sucks on a Global scale! And yes i am Bitching it is my Money and there Shity stuff!
i didnt even try to move the clip on my tremor. mine has hex screws my leeks clip screws stripped by looking at them. not the threads but the head where the bit goes in. ive always had acomplete torx set from craftsman. maybe the bits were too well made.
ditto...i will no longer buy a knife with screws...it's a setup for failure most of the time...my kershaw 1660 ken onion is now clipless cause i wanted to move it and it changed the entire geometry of the knife...and i do have the correct tools and know how to use them...i had to adjust the other 3 frame screws to align it cause i did not want the clip on the wrong side...just my opinion...i do not claim to be an expert, but i do know what i want for my purchases
for budget knives stick with the cheaper spydercos from the tenacious line even the delica4 and endura 4 you can find around 50 bucks, and cold steels for 50 and under, R U READY FOT THE PRO BOWL??
Only company that makes a decent budget blade is Spyderco in my opinion. I've been using a Persistence on the job for over a year now, couldn't be happier.
i remember that SOG video. that did suck. kinda what made me gun shy with buying SOG. that's a shame you've have so many problems with Kershaw. i don't think i've ever had a problem. but then when it comes to clips i usually just leave it as is. so that may explain that, at least where the screws are concerned.
that was pretty funny at the end. "i'm pissed, & i'm out".
I agree with yinz! You get what you pay for! I carry a pricey blade on duty at fire rescue, and on a daily basis and I can count on that blade when I need it!
One of the most important tools for knife guys is a 20x magnifying glass. There've been a few times where I thought a bolt head was a particular type - and it wasn't. A cheap set of plastic Jeweler's loupes will suffice, and they can be had for $10. Or, if you're really cheap, use the wrong side of one of your rifle scopes.
I've found that the torx drivers bought at some big hardware stores (who shall go nameless here) are not made to meet exact specs on many standard torx sizes. I've only ever had a problem stripping shitty knife torx screws, and it was when I used a cheaper driver that was not as quality as my Wihas or even the Husky Model # 74502 is a pretty decent one so far.
Just thought I'd share my experiences bro. Wiha tools are so kickass! =)
I always try to use a size bigger when it comes to shitty torx hardware, like if I need a T6 I'll squeeze in a T7 and so on. I have some Wiha torx drivers that will pretty much do it all, they're not cheap by far, but they're some of the best. I use these for a living at times so I need the best though. I do recommend going as high quality with your drivers as you do your blades though... just minimize issues all around you know. There's a reason I have about $25,000 worth of specialized tools.
well buying a cheaper knife you risk getting what you pay for. sometimes its good and others are crap. I got a chill for like 12 bucks at cabelas and have never had an issue, but my leak is a pile of shit, its just a chance you take. on a side note though I just got a gerber 06 f.a.s.t. and LOVE IT!!!!
amen...i have same problem one with kershaw packrat and spyderco tenacious....now i guess i got to go home depot and buy the kit that you have....what a waste...i could have bought another knife......
I can completely understand an sympathize with this issue as I had the same issue with one of my Kershaw Scamps. Their CS was great though and they simply gave me a whole new knife. I guess I have a big problem with spending 100 bucks or over though on a knife I know I'm going to thud-n-thump on day in and day out. The clip and screw issues aren't enough (for me personally) to keep me from using Kershaw knives in the end. Still love'em and use'em.
i had an sog thats tip snapd off n the asshole on the phone just keep saying that its impossable , will it happend , from shitty weak partical board too
idk, i never had a problem with my kershaws ive had around ten of them, i dont get wrapped up in if the blades centered or anything, as long as it dosnt interfear with the action of the knife. never had a bent tip, any screw problems.....maybe i have good luck though.
Had the same problem on my Spyderco Tenacious. Took Spyderco 3 weeks to deliver new screws to me. My American and Japanese Spydercos do not have this problem. Chinese fasteners are notoriously bad.
@bamnmetal Er the screws on my Endura were crap and stripped out the first time I tried to move the clip. Ironically no problems doing the same on the Persistence. US made Spydercos absolutely rock though - never had any issue with them at all.
@JESTER588 Maybe that's the problem. Some people settle for shit while others don't! Kinda like what goes on in life i guess. Me i just like to get a decent product for my money not saying that what's in your pocket is shit but i don';t have to like it or settle on it either. Thanks!
It really sux that the price of a product does not always indicate quality, and where it;s made has went out the window to .It is a crap shoot to find a decent blade without taking in the (__I__),I mean I agree with you bro :)
I experienced a similiar problem with a Buck Vantage a few weeks ago. I'm equally pissed. On the other hand, both my Kershaw knives rock. I've had no problems with them. Ironically, I purchased a Benchmade 940 because they are supposedly such "great" knives...........it turned out to be a flaming lemon. As much as Benchmade knives cost, I'm pissed to say the least. I'll never buy another one.
i've had worse luck with my spydercos. the blades are great, and the g10 scales are fantastic for the money paid for mine. tried to take both my persistence and tenacious apart because i was looking at making some new scales for them, and on both knives, the pocket clip screws will not back out of the threads and on each scale atleast one screw is the same way. atleast with my kershaw one ton and my ontario rat 1 (both very inexpensive knives) i had no trouble with the screws.
I changed the pocket clip on my Tremor and Compound without any problems. The only thing that was wrong with it is that it needed some grease on the speed safe mechanism cuz it made some weird sound when opened lol but you can't beat that knife for the money, g10, stonewashed, centered, great design and this is my sharpest knife by far!
the chinese kershaws may have hex screws instead of torx. you can request parts to be sent to you free of charge from kershaw instead of sending it in.
Its not only cheap knives that I've had problems with.. I bought a Benchmade 940 recently, awesome knife, love it, and it came from the factory with a stripped screw towards the bottom. I didn't even bother complaining about it cause I know the blame would get turned around on me. But can you imagine paying that kind of money for a folder and it coming with a stripped screw in it?!
Their pocket clip screws have thread locker on them as well. Nothing wrong with the screws. Its just that the holding power of the locktite is stronger than the screw heads. I agree they could but a beefier screw but they are never going to do that. Also you can call or email customer service and they will ship you screws no charge. Or better yet, order new screws from jantz or knifekits.
I own several kershaw blades so I feel your pain. Best of luck.
@Lookinformemarbles idk man. personaly the only kershaw issue i had ( i own 6) is on the friggin leek, torsion springs are crap man, 4 china, 2 usa kershaws, the usa one is crap. just saying. and my damn skyline blade keeps off centering and rubbing the handle.
@Lookinformemarbles I use to feel that way, now I just get quality once and if I lose it, oh well, we drive out cars worth thousand everywhere and dont worry about hitting trees right, lol...Its worth buying one expensive knife and using it
@Lookinformemarbles I am think a sage or para or the one you suggested. What is the point of having all these knives and most are junk and i could have saved and got a good one. Lessons learned!
@gamedude18 How much of there Product do you really think is made here? I say 30% at best. I know it is just screws but just like the fellow said down below Having to work on or return anything new, sucks! No matter what it is or were it's made!
you want good quality screws you have to pay for it. in my opinion i dont mind kershaw saving a few bucks so they can sell a cheaper product. also kershaw is an american made company so to compete with the foreign stuff they need to find ways to keep the real product ie the knife and how it cuts working great but save some money on things that dont relay matter like pocket clip screws. also you can just go to a hardware store and replace them for 5 cents no big.
