Im surprised how many people believe that D-Day was americas bloodiest day. They dont believe me when I tell them it was the battle of Antietam, which took place over 140 years ago. Guess its because D-Day is over- popularized among americans today.
That gets ya right at home, no glory or sense of pride, just slaughter and murder on an epic scale. You really nailed what it was really like right there..
This is top notch. Excellent interpolation of period photography and modern CGI, very tastefully done. Gettysburg gets all the glory, but Antietam was perhaps even more decisive a battle.
Just got back from there couple of hours ago, it was beautiful and sunny as usual. hard to believe that so many men lost their lives there and that, that beautiful sharpsburg air wouldve been full of smoke and the agonizing cries of the wounded. I saw so many people from out of state and even country, nice to know people were coming to relish the state of my current residence.
I drive through the Battlefield everyday and I still have problems fathoming what completely happened there. I wouldn't change my location for anywhere.
@halberd64 Pvts Daniel and Jesse Flora where in the 7th Ohio they were at the Dunkard Church. The Regiment lost almost over a half of their men fighting there. Hard to believe they both lived. What an honor it is to know you had an Irishman in the 69th.
Great grandfather ("grandpa Schinkle) came over from Germany to fight in the war. If I remember correctly it was 1) And easy way to get citizenship(IF you survived) and he was promised land(IF they won lol). I have always been enamored by the American Civil War.
one of my union relatives was in the penns. cavalry combat divis. (dont have family history book with me) and was wounded 3 times then shot from his horse twice all at diff. battles. his name on gettysburg memory block.(just thought ya should know) nice vid.
Still stands as the bloodiest day for Americans, 23,000 casualties in all. 18,000 are wounded, 3,800 are killed out right, another 2,000 are missing or captured, and 4,000 more will die of their wounds. Impossible for our minds to fathom what really happened that day, I do not even believe that I know 7,800 people, let alone 23,000.
A great place to visit if you've never been, very sombering if you truly understand what happened there. From Baltimore your only less than an hour, get on I-70W towards Hagerstown, take the Sharpsburg exit and its just 10 minuets down Rt.65.
Yeah. I was there a couple days after Christmas last year on a foggy day. I felt a chill run down my back at the Sunken Road, and it wasn't even that cold out.
Holy Fuck! I love the editing!!! The way you cut out the figures from the brady photos and set them into new backgrounds and made a 3d effect! What is this a trailor for? a History Channel thing?
Im not sure who created this Trailer, but it was not me; I was simply a soldier. The actual shoot was for the History Channels series 10 Days That Unexpectdly Changed America. The series covered 10 different events that impacted America, this one being September 17, 1862: The Battle of Antietam/Sharpsburg, MD. 23,000 AMERICANS were killed, wounded or missing in action in a single day, the bloodiest day in American history. If you get a chance to see the series, it is a great program.
perfect song. don't hear much from the Von album, just the Takk and Agaetis Byrjun. combining two of my favorite things, Sigur Ros and the "Civil War." now who did the cinematography for this? and how?
It is a perfect mix. The Cinematography was all done with still images, thousands of them. Im not sure who the crew was, but the director was Michael Epstein of the History Channel. They made the images look like glass plate images using some clever techniques and Adobe Photoshop. Some of the images were actually shot using a wet plate camera by Robert Szabo.
The song is Hun Jord from the album Von, so your right. Sadly they did not use any Sigur Rós in the actual show, there was talk on set about it, but it never happened.
The 14th Indiana was there

the civil war was such a tragedy, but what's even more tragic is that the american people tend to forget about it

I agree, way too many people forget how important it was to the preservation and overall influence it had on the U.S.

I really enjoyed this video. Very nicely done. I used to live in Maryland and have visited Anteitam. It is so, so sad that so many died there.

That was some messy shit. If I calculated it right there was an average of 32 casualties per minute

I live right near there. Its real eerie on a quiet foggy day, almost like goin back in time and re-living the battle.

I live right off the battlefield as well, and like you have gotten the chills from an eerie feeling.

I live in Sharpsburg, right on the square, and have had my fair share of chills through the years. Quite a place, indeed.
