Giving big business breaks and putting the burden on the little guy automatically puts big business in charge. I do not want them in charge of my country!
It's interesting Senator Sanders, self-identified socialist, is the most outspoken progressive and seemingly the most genuine fiscal conservative. I'll never understand what is fiscally conservative about supporting big biz at the cost of small biz, supporting 'free trade' at the cost of local economies, supporting outsourced jobs at the cost of American workers, supporting tax cuts for the rich while attacking average Americans, supporting environmental destruction at the cost of human health.
We need more manufacturing facilities that produced consumer goods like cell phones, clothing, and tennis shoes along with capital goods like, power tools and robotics, we just might have an excellent source of increased revenue generated by the jobs that would be created. I'd rather see congress discussing this rather than discussing how to default on their promise to take care of seniors through SS, medicaid and medicare!
Debt resulted, in part, from a lack of revenue from a lack of JOBS!
it seems like you're the only true democrat still left in Washington surrounded by a bunch of shills for the rich and corporations. keep fighting the good fight
The changed cmi is too much. How the heck are the elderly supposed to live onthat? I have an 85 year old neighbor who is barely amking it now. $1000 less? We need to raise our vioces against this.
@mapleking54 No one is listening and the middle class ,elderly, poor, weak, are doomed. That is you and me.That is you all with the good jobs and big houses and expensive cars..What is NOT is those with 20 mil of liquid assets distributed all over the world's banks.
Please share this video (and the others) on your social network pages. Like Senator Sanders said, people have to get involved or things will only get worse.
I enjoy Senator Sanders but his speech didn't mention "shared sacrifice" as he put it. Wouldn't shared sacrifice be a reduction of social security, medicare, and medicare benefits while also increases taxes and cutting out loopholes?
@bbor55 Sanders is saying that middle and low income people in America have already sacrificed a lot in this poor economic climate, but the top 1% have been doing better than ever before. So what he is saying is that the rich should have to sacrifice as well not just middle and low income families.
NO TO THE DEFICIT DEAL PROPOSED BY THE SIX! Mr. President, this is NOT deficit reduction, this is more tax cuts for the wealthy! Slashing of important programs people have paid into their whole lives, and it would devastate the housing market! Please say NO to this selling out the middle class in this country!
I worked since I was 12 and paid in to the system from that age to now retirement on social security and the cola is a joke I know my costs have gone up I even served my country in the NAVY 7 years on submarines and they want to make vets pay more
They should give us a 9% raise and leave the vets alone
Thank you, Bernie Sanders, for being the champion of the people. I would like you to be Prez.
And, BTW, Bernie Sanders is not a socialist, but a democratic socialist. His ideology is to the left of the current very middle-of-the-road Democratic Party (some would call them Republican-lite), but still not a socialist. A true socialist would call for privatizing the corporations that are currently stealing from the American people. Bernie is closer to a European democracy -- still not socialism.
If Bernie Sanders is an "admitted" socialist than so am I.....Much better in my view than being an "admitted" republican. The very wealthy are by-products of a health economy, and not the providers of one. It makes no sense to balance the budget on the back of the poor and the quickly vanishing middle class, while not ending tax breaks for the wealthiest of individuals and corporations. One more thing...End the stupid bankrupting wars right now & slash military spending to the bone.
It seems that BLSnell1959 thinks that he's one of the 2% that are the beneficiaries of cutting SS/Medicare and extending those tax cuts. He's delusional, so cut him some slack. When Wall Street tanks the market again and his 401k and IRA accounts go down the drain with it, have some pity on him. I'll keep a can of soup ready for you, buddy.
actually I didn't open my "piehole" - I'm simply typing some responses to a ridiculous plan by an admitted socialist Senator. Take time to reply to my comments if you want but, please, hold back on the bitter attitude. If what I say is false, then provide your point of view with factual data to back it up.
if those companies go, then employment goes with them. Less jobs = less taxes to the government from them and more required from you. Regarding tariffs, do you not understand that those costs are passed along to the consumer? Really, people, this is not all that complicated. Cut spending in all areas (including any wasteful spending in the military) and increase tax revenue by lifting government restrictions and sanctions (e.g. oil and gas exploration and production, nuclear plants, etc.).
@BLSnell1959 "Regarding tariffs, do you not understand that those costs are passed along to the consumer?" and then people will start buying more american made products...really dude, it's not that complicated
@olov244 if you will read the other posts, you'd see that my comments were to someone who is willing to say bye-bye to those American companies and, thus, those American products. Thanks, though for blessing me with your wisdom.
you're a broken record, Bernie, and you still don't understand. Corporate taxes in America are some of the highest in the world. Raise them more and guess what - that company will pack and move elsewhere. Don't believe me? Just check the exodus of money and companies from America. Pretty soon the divide between middle class and rich will close because the rich will have moved out and the middle class will then be the "rich". In fact, under your socialist plan we will then all be equal.
@BLSnell1959 "Corporate taxes in America are some of the highest in the world. Raise them more and guess what - that company will pack and move elsewhere" GOOD, let them leave, who needs a company like that. give me lots and lots of smaller businesses, and lets shove so many tariff's on imported goods that those turn-coat companies go belly up. your idea of fair tax is about as fair as the fair trade deal was/is.
@BLSnell1959 These are talking points found from FOX News and the Repluplican Neocons. The exodus of money is being held in off shore accounts set up by NAFTA. Mix in a little research before opening uour pie hole., thanks for sharing. Now GFY!
@BLSnell1959 Are you kidding? Most large US firms DO NOT pay taxes. Instead of getting your dose of Faux "News," why don't you pick up a book and read it?
@BLSnell1959 It's too bad I can't post a link to prove my point but just google this, "american corporations that do not pay taxes." You will get hits from CNNMoney, Forbes and BusinessInsider that shows, more than 2/3 of companies do not pay income taxes. So your point is moot.
"Nearly two-thirds of U.S. companies and 68% of foreign corporations do not pay federal income taxes, according to a congressional report released Tuesday." -Fortune Magazine/CNNMoney
@BLSnell1959 Reason firms aren't hiring is because the economy is poor. Supply side economics DOES NOT WORK. Giving tax breaks is not an incentive for firms to hire. A firm is willing to expand only if there is a demand to meet it. 70% of US GDP is made up of goods and services, used mostly by the middle class. When the middle class does poorly, the economy will perform poorly.
Haven't gotten a COL increase in two years. It's my understanding that they do not include the cost of food or fuel in their calculations. What in God's name do they think we spend our money on? We only have enough to buy small amounts of food, pay our rent (hopefully), and pay for our medications, or go without. Let this be on your consciences when you cast your votes.
There are people talking, and watching who is saying what and what it is they are doing on Capitol Hill. We can tell who is looking out for our interests and who is looking out for their own. We can see who is acting recklessly and who is working to protect our standing in the financial world. We know, as they better remember, election time always rolls around again.
So we should not reduce how much we spend? Please. The rich already pay more than their "fair share" - you see Fair means equal to all, not equal to some, nothing for most, and a lot more for others. Remember Animal Farm? Social Security is a safety net - not retirement. The eligibility age should be raised to the average death age of all americans - which is where FDR put it in the first place.
I totally agree with reasonjr. Obama's policies, including Obamacare, are totally Republican. To help all Americans, taxes on the wealthy and corporations would have to be so high that they would invest in expansion and new employees in order to spend down profits and avoid taxes. Right now they put the profits in their pockets without reinvesting. I would also give corporations help in competing with other countries. Take healthcare off their backs. Public Option subsidized by taxes.
I agree with you Bernie, but don't paint Obama in a different light. He promised the American people a lot of things. When he gave the rich the unneeded tax cuts while throwing the unemployed and middle class a crumb; and then toss Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid up on the table for the Republicans to jerk off to, he sealed my decision to "NOT" vote for him in 2012. He did inherit a dying America after Bush Jr. got through with it, but I won't help him continue the killing.
A "fair deal" would be to have taxes go higher for EVERYONE. All should have the same rate with no deductions. If you make over $30k you should be paying the same rate as everyone else.
Senator Sanders, why would our representatives listen to our phone calls, even if it were thousands of them, if their pockets are being lined by the beneficiaries of the mismanagement of our government & economy? What more can we do short of a "REAL" tea party movement. No, I don't support the "Tea Party."
"The Greatest American Hero" was once a tv show. Well, he's alive and well and serves ALL the people as the U.S. senator from Vermont. Why must he stand alone?
I love Bernie. But, he's selling compassion to persuade people. We already know the greedy people only care about themselves. (same with many more people). How can you get them to realize it's in their interests to focus on the deficit problems NOW. (not be stealing from the future of cash flow positive programs now)
$500 to $1,000 less a year from where? Do they get $12,000 a year to begin with? $500 to $1000 is a LOT of money to somebody at that income level to begin with. Remember over that time, inflation at 2-3% will also push up costs hugely more over 10-20+ years. Huge hit to the senior.
@davidasul : Thanks for speaking up..many of us don't get even $12k a year, and out of what we do get, at least $100 a month is taken out for Medicare (that Entitlement program). I paid into Soc. Sec. for 40+ years, not knowing that it was going to be spent on war and to make up for tax loopholes for the obscenely rich. This country has lost not only it's mind, but it's soul as well.
@madamezolar BULL! 12K a year is less than 6/hour and the minimum wage is a great deal higher than that. also with that low of an income you would be showered (free money for doing nothing but existing off the sweat of your fellow citizens) with money from Federal and state coffers. And if you are only making that much - why are you here and not out getting an education or job training and try to do something more with your life.
@SpencerMoseley : I happen to be almost 70 years old, and am so ill that I can barely make it out of bed each day. I'd love to be able to go back to the time when I could work. I've paid into Soc. Sec. for 40+ years.; it's my money, not yours. You need to think before your write.
@madamezolar No it is not. Social Security is an entitlement program. It is not your retirement fund. If you want that - put your money into a 401K or a ROTH IRA. SS is an entitlement program. And by your thinking what happens when you run out of the money you put in? You get Zero? No you don't - you take from others. I would suggest reading up on the topic before showing your ignorance.
@SpencerMoseley: I did invest in a 401K, which was depleted completely by medical bills. The shares I bought in my company for years went from $27 to .23 at the time of my retirement. If I had been allowed to take those SS contributions and invest, or even bank them, I wouldn't need my monthly check. I think my biggest sins are not being rich, and living too long. I only hope that this never happens to you, really.
@madamezolar Why did not diversify? Every investor knows you never put all your eggs in one basket. you have to plan ahead. If SS was run like say the Govt Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) you would have far more each month from the money you "invested" in SS. If TSP is good enough all the politicans, military and all federal employees, it should be good enough for others.
@scoggles -- The best way to have rich lower/middle class is to have lots of businesses. Redistribution of wealth currently planned is GLOBAL not just the US. Global income is $2 per day -- global government = global poverty. This video about World poor/immigration demonstrates the point with gumballs. Easy to understand. I'm voting Ron Paul! His financial plan is the only one that doesn't cut government assistance checks, as he balances the budget.
Social Security is not solvent. New congressional estimates say the trust fund that supports Social Security disability will run out of money by 2017, leaving the program unable to pay full benefits, unless Congress acts. About two decades later, Social Security’s much larger retirement fund is projected to run dry as well. It's time to REFORM ALL GOVERNMENT ASSISTANT PROGRAMS NOW -- ELSE WE LOSE THEM! How about the first step to get millionaires off SS and Medicare? And I'm GOP!
