I actually think that this is one of the best moments in oscar. As a person, not only as italian, I'm always emotionally taken by this scene.

Now Italy is seen as a stupid country with fucking politicians, otherwise we have a legendary list of people who made the history and are known all over the world, and we don't have to forget this. I love the art, the cinema, the cook, everything of my Italy (except for my politicians) and i'm so proud to be born in my country.

It was a beautiful movie... if you are a parent you can appreciate why he did what he did for his child and how every parent would try to do the same to shield them. He was masterful and deserved the oscar, no question.

one of the greatest films ever made. la vita e bella is unique as it centres around the nazi invasion on a personal level, showing what it did to one little family- who wouldn't want to be surrounded by such love and respect as is held in that family? and his "tirade" at the oscars"? if we all spent a little more of our time speaking and acting with such love and passion, im certain that we'd be one hell of a lot happier =] xx

Easily the most overhyped movie and underserved oscar. It was an aesthetic cheat and a moral failing. The scene of the music wafting gently across the concentration camp so that the mother would know the father and son were okay.... god, I almost threw up. And people actually bought this.

I can only be thankful that Benigni has faded into deserved obscurity.
