Don't let Whitaker's past fool you - he clowned away rounds 7, 8, 10 and 12. I scored this fight a draw - could have gone either way, but certainly not a 'robbery' like the aforementioned.

Whitaker absolutely clowned away 4 of the last 6. He also got hit far, far more often in this fight than normal. I agree that the judges scoring was way off in terms of point margins, but as I said, you could give it to either man by a point or two and not look out of place. A close fight, but not a robbery.

I've gotta say a draw on this one. In a championship fight, it should be 100% who won. Either a decisive knockout or decisive control the entire fight. Nobody debated Sugar Shane (an awesome fighter by the way) losing to Pacquio. That's how it should be.

I remember watching this fight when I was a kid, I thought pernell won then, and watching it again much older, I still say pernell won this fight. Pernell landed alot of the angle shots, those flurry shots Oscar threw barely landed, the one's he did land, didn't drop pernell...pernell found atleast one shot that dropped oscar, no matter how fast he got back up.

tbh as much as i love whitaker, i don't think he won this fight... i don't think he lost it either though...
defensively, he was great as usual. de la hoya could barely graze him most of the time... but whitaker didn't do much offensively. he mostly stuck to jabbing at odlh to keep him at bay.
i guess the judges didn't appreciate the defensive-minded style. even if odlh wasn't really that effective with his punches, he looked like the busier man, so maybe that's what the judges liked..

whitaker didn't do anything spectacular . he was clowning and not doing much. he had a good jab once in a while . he was holding and fighting dirty. oscar landed more and looked better..they weren't gonna give a fight to a aging whitaker. i'm glad oscar was was honest saying that politics has alot to do with boxing. i think mayweather lost to castillo. and pac lost to marquez. but they won't just hand over all that money to those guys. He beat Elite fighters. Trinidad didn't really BEAT him, he got the win, but he was literally GIVEN the win, but Trinidad got beat up. He gave Mosley a close fight the first time, and outboxed Mosely the second time. Vargas and Quartey were both Elite fighters, Mayweather didn't win as easily as he should have, And the KO loss to Bhop was out of his weight division and was purely to help the sport. Mayorga is an Elite, he's closer to the bottom of the list, but he is an Elite. Oscar was doing wut his corner told him to do, he's very good at that and duz it A Lot. Pernell landed alot of jabs in the fight but was also backing up most and clinching most of the time. DLH had a hard time hitting Pernell but did land more power shots. I thought the fight was tough to judge and its really what you style you favor more. Do u go with a defensive boxer who doesnt make the fight or the guy whos pressuring the whole time? Oh by the way neither really landed shit so damn it really could have gone either way. Anyways both fighters are going to the hall of fame.

I remember watching this fight when I was a kid, I thought pernell won then, and watching it again much older, I still say pernell won this fight. Pernell landed alot of the angle shots, those flurry shots Oscar threw barely landed, the one's he did land, didn't drop pernell...pernell found atleast one shot that dropped oscar, no matter how fast he got back up.
