  • She was high off her ass.

  • Look at the fans. See with Whitney she has nothing to prove to them because they're loyal fans and still in awe of her because they know that her resume was impeccable'!!!!!!!! When I see Ms Houston in concert I will not be checking for the highest note, I'll just being enjoying whatever she has to give because she's legend and always will be!!!! No one can take that away from her, especially the critics! See you in the States Ms. Houston!!!!

  • I LOVE it...the 2nd time she goes "Come on, come on, come on, COME ON!" I LOVE IT!!!!!

  • im sorry just read a comment on here saying that we should be more caring about whitney houston well im sorry to say no one made her take drugs that was her desicion and it has runied her voice she is not a diva no more sorry she is great but no now her voice has gone

  • Nobody forced her to start, but she made her own decision to stop and that's a very difficult thing to do. If you saw her performance on Oprah, I don't see how you'd say her voice is "gone."

  • Comment removed

  • And my opinion is different. I thought she was superb on Oprah's show and someone who was at the taping said her unaired rendition of "I Love the Lord" was one of the best ever. She may not be as good as the old days but she can still sing the hell out of a song.

  • Bullfucking shit!!! I can NOT stand stupidity and your comment...right here...was dumb and...so that of a person who isn't musically inclined in N E WAY

  • I see you're a fan and my comment has upset you, but it's my opinion and I am musically inclined. How is my comment stupid and dumb? If it will calm you down a bit and help you refrain from using profanity, perhaps I should remove my comment. I think I will. Please try to calm yourself and have a wonderful day.

  • let him who's with out sin cast the first stone...she paid for her mistake....why not celebrate her as an individual bouncing back, saying NO to death! she chose to live. Come on!

  • @deantammyspain200 ok she made her choices and suffered the consequences from this, but anyone who is diva, leave to be one. She maybe will not sing as old days and in my opinion even she didn't have involved with drugs she wouldn't sing as before, but diva she is always be, because she did great things for the music. Things that many popstars today have not done.

  • whitney God is with you all the way dont worry about the negative just focus on the positive

  • kazakhstan 2008. the road hasn't been smooth. we can pray, but we need to be realistic too. she wasn't sober at the grammys THIS YEAR, when she presented the award to jennifer hudson. i agree, we should stay positive and encouraging as fans, but keep it real. if she's still using, it doesn't do her or anybody any good to look the other way.

i hope she keeps on top of her sobriety. as such, she doesn't owe me one more song, since she's given us all more than enough already.

  • It is nice to see Whitney make a comeback. Especially after all the problems she's gone through. Her voice will never be the same, but then again, one never knows? ;-)

I just wish people were more caring :-(

  • It is always heartbreaking to see an artist in the twilight of their singing carreers. I've witnessed James Brown, The "Tempts" and some of everybody as I love to attend concerts. I truly hope that Miss Houston can regain and maintain her voice ...because I earnestly believe that if she discovers that she can no longer sing, she would have no incentive to stay "clean" and fall right back into the that drug abuse bag that she fought so hard and so long to break free of... .

  • well your beliefs are pretty baseless to be honest, founded on your own personal prejudices.

  • Sall right Whitney, work it out girl...just work it out one day at a time ...focus and condition that voice gently...then just rip em up!!!!...haha

  • i see what you did. at 3.19, you go back to the GMA sound - the aired version, which is why that final "Tell Me No" chorus is so smooth.

weird. i remember when this first aired, and i remember thinking then that i could tell they were substituting the studio recording for the live vocal, during the chorus - very skillfully done, but still obvious. i was at the GMA performance in Central Park two mornings ago, and they pulled that same clean-up trick when it aired yesterday morning.

  • Yeah but the cleanup trick this time was a LOT more subtle. They slipped the second verse in there on Million Dollar Bill so sneaky that I almost couldn't tell. Though I wish they hadn't dubbed over parts of I Look To You. They had to lower the pitch to match the live version which made it sound very strange.

  • VERY sneaky. some of that is probably due to whitney herself too, since her two-days-after-crack-is-whack interview voice back in 2002 was in sharp contrast to her "Tell Me No" studio voice. this time around, the studio vocals weren't as ambitious, so it was a better match to her skill level, live.

but you're right...very sneaky this time. if i hadn't been there, i might not have noticed, and even still, there are parts i'm not sure about without the side-by-side comparison.

  • when was this?

  • December 2002, for the release of the album "Just Whitney"

  • Alrgiht guys, people who don't know, Whitney new Album offical date is Sept. 1, it is on her site, a big countdowna dn promo vid! LOVE WHITNEY!!!

  • The album was moved up. It is actually August 31 release.

  • I liked this performace.

And especially the words in the chours " Tell me no, and I show you I CAN"

    She can!

  • Just search "whitney singing" by date added on here. Many of these people were named Whitney after this very same woman you see here, and most of them who sing don't do a very good job, and Nippy still beats them even on a bad day. People weren't named Diana after Diana Ross; nor there are many Arethas or Dionnes (though I did see one speak to Ms. Warwick live!) Check a baby name graph history, and you'll notice a distinct peak in the late '80s of Whitney as a baby name because of THE VOICE.

  • Thank you her voice did change from dramatic coloratura to like now a spinto or mezzo soprano on lazy day! Whitney problem is she trying to sing as powerful as she used too. If she will sing softly and let notes flow she will sound much better. Her voice is naturally high and creamy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • im sorry but whitney has never been a dramatic coloratura soprano...she was a spinto when she was young and slowley her voice darkened to a mezzo by the mid 90's. mariah is more considered a dramatic coloratura for her flying velocity and low depths and fullness when it comes to her head and chest voice.

  • ~9500 women were named Whitney in 1986, up from ~2200 in 1984 and ~3800 in 1985, along with ~8900 Whitneys in 1987 and ~7800 in 1988. As late as 1993, ~ 4000 girls were named Whitney annually. Sadly. since 2001, less than 1000 women have been named Whitney every year, and less than 500 in 2007.

  • I would never call anyone a hasbeen..Whitney is just one good cd away from being on top.But was a very bad performance period. And as far as the excuses of voices aging with time please look at Patti,Tina,Natalie,Chaka,Gladys, and a host of other divas who are getting older..lol

  • you all do realize that this clip is old as hell look at some of her later performances and as for voice getting worse did it ever occur to you scandalous bitches that her voice is just older duh she is not going to sound like she did in her twenties her voice changed from a dramatic coloratura to a dramatic mezzo look it up later! lol damn

  • God this is horrible I love Whitney but this is just plan bad!!!

  • whitney houston had one of the greatest voices in the world. to bad she had married that low-life loser bobby brown and got strung out on the drugs. now she is nothing but a old washed has been. if she makes a comeback, i do not think too many people will be interested in her new album because of drug addiction. get lost whitney. you are old news now you washed has been.

  • I guess you could do better huh? Shit nobody knows who you are but we all know who Whitney Houston is THINK ABOUT THAT!!!

  • why do you use such harsh words? you sound like whitney did something to you. just curious how you can call a legendary iconic groundbreaking record-shattering standard-setting woman a washed up has been?

  • i know this wasn't her very best performance vocally, but i still get the shivers at the way she was singing this...it's like she meant every single word...at 3:25 becomes almost epic, with that pose, the wind agains her and that kicking asses attitude...love this

  • Whitney Rocks!! Whitney Rules 4 eva!!

  • Her voice sounds a little raspy here in spots but overall very powerful and confident. She hasn't sounded like this recently.

  • i was saying that she wasn't bad here. and that CURRENTLY she's gotten worse. whether you think so are not. and you're right. thank god you're not hearing me sing live. i suck, and i never said i could sing.

  • YUPnNOpe is right. Overall, she's gotten worse. Even with some of the marginally decent performances this year, none of them have had as much confidence and power as those "Tell Me Nos" in the chorus.

  • To be fair, Morocco wasn't bad.

  • Very true, Morocco was pretty good. And I love her recent performance on Oprah! She's back, and doing a lot better than expected.

  • the truth is she sings songs that stretch her voice to her limit and then sings, and sings, and sings...i mean what does she think will happen. of course, she'll lose her voice and now she's obligated to fulfill those dates. that's why she bailed out on so many performances in the erly 2000s, she didn't want to show up sounding bad, especially when she's known as "the voice." we all saw what happened at BET in 2001, people were waiting to hear her hit those notes and were sorely disappointed

  • Of course this is live performance.

    Whitney is the best!

  • I dont know why people think this is bad. When she was at her worst (worse than this) when she was on drugs she was still better than most others.

If a new artist came along and sounded like this nobody would have a problem...

  • after hearing this version (with audio from a camcorder in the audience) i just don't understand how they added the album vocals over the live vocals--if this was live. does anyone know?

  • This wasn't live, it was aired a few days after the actual performance. So during that time, Good Morning America went back in and added the album vocals.

  • She appeared outside Lincoln Center on 12-8-02, and it aired 12-10-02. I don't know if we should assume GMA dubbed it with the commercial CD. I would think Whitney's team had her go in and overdub sections they didn't like. Her live vocal was certainly on a separate track than the live music, and all they had to do was lay another vocal over it, though she would have had to do it. Is the CD the same instrumentation and metronomic tempo? Why would GMA change the vocal? It sounds fine.

  • nope. it's the commercial CD. whitney sang LIVE and the band played along with the studio recording, which you can still hear playing on the camcorder version, faintly. so, in post-production, they would find moments where she wasn't her best, and replace it with the CD, so, the sound on GMA is of them ping-ponging back and forth - LIVE-CD-LIVE-CD, etc... where it doesn't match, they'd either go to very wide shots or show her from the back, so you wouldn't see her lips out of sync.

  • thanks for posting Whitney's "original" vocal performance! No matter what...Whitney rocks!

  • Live always sounds this way anyways she looks great and shes on the road back and thats all that matters.

  • From this video one can witness that extreme and i mean extreme damage in her voice. However, it can be undone and I think she is restoring her voice before she makes her new album. But yes I agree she can not come back if her voice sounds like this.

  • You must be on Welfare. That's the only way you could possibly have the time to post all of the trash talking. My advice to you is to get a life and get a job.

  • Even at the lowest point of her career Whitney is still a great performer.

  • yup!

  • This is the real one.

Don't look at that of nukirby.

He modified even if he lies about it.

    The real performance was this...

  • He didn't modify anything. What he posted is what aired on TV. The audio for this comes from a camcorder at the concert.

  • thanks

  • yay its the ever-incredible SMECKLES! ;)

  • I am sorry the sound is bad and I can not really hear her voice, but I know she is the best and she will be back on top! This is one of my favorite songs.

  • The sound came off somebody's camera at the concert...it's the only version that has the original sound before GMA dubbed it over and made it look like she was lipsynching. .

  • Thanks anyway!

  • This wasn't Whitney 's best performance but she is still the greatest singer on the planet, and I love her...I'm so glad she's making a BIG comeback I've always had faith in Whitney!!
