  • hi, went to your free site to look for the pages of free info, all i could find was lessons to buy. have you changed your website? cheers,

  • i don't get the f and the high b flat...but im doing it on a tenor sax... is there a difference?

  • its like a trompet o.o why?

  • hey im new at this and i cant make it happen, the sound i mean...Why?please help

  • FOGHORN Bb lol

  • I can do all of them except the lowest B and B flat... so frustrating!

  • At first when your begining you'll discover that you won't be able to get very hard imean high LOL

  • Thanks for the free lessons on your site. Notify me if you make any more.

  • how do u do that?

  • 1:36 ... *STARE!!!*...now if u....

  • O e o e o e

  • When I change the octave it sounds horrible! Also what is a good type of reed?

  • @rvelitestars i personally like the vandoren jazz reeds...note i forgot how to spell vandoren but still it is a good reed...

  • that low Bb sounds like a freakin cruise ship lol

  • I just had my first lesson today and struggled to get much sound out of it. It was either just a breathy noise or a high pitch screech.

Is this normal for a beginner?

  • I always get hard

  • Where do you put your hands? Which keys? I just got a saxophone for Christmas and I'm clueless but trying!!

  • hehe i got a surprise sax for christmas, its really hard lol ^^

  • "One of my favorite techniques is going up slowly. At first when you begin, you'll be going up and you'll realize that you won't be able to get very hard - uh high." TEE HEE, I have the maturity level of 5 year old. Sorry people,

  • What kind of sax is that? an alto?

  • this is very exciting....just borrowed a alto sax for a week to see if i can make/get music out of it and this sight will help....i have a musical background and things are looking good...thanks for the free tuition...

  • Do you have tabs?

  • Great job on your videos! Well said, well demonstrated, well made.

  • yay!!!! my son has been driving me nuts because his low notes were coming out too high. he was ready to quit sax, quit band, throw himself off a bridge, yada yada. then we got through just the first third of this lesson and suddenly the birds are singing, there are rainbows in the sky and he's hitting those low notes when he should. whew! what a relief! thanks so much!

  • sounds like a dead fly

  • Same day. Did another set in a RED shirt! You are the first person to notice:)

  • Does he always wear the same shirt or did he do all this in one day?

  • Thank you for doing this I have been playing for 2 years but I am still having trouble playing the sax but with your leeson I am alredy doing beter

  • Great tips....many thanks,...i also find it a good focussing exercise to begin practice with.

  • what is ur set up horn, reed and mouth piece?

  • @altosaxer1225 wow, way to be a sterio typical sax player, you are the reason people think we are gear heads.

  • Nice. Lesson 1, how to put the mouthpiece into your mouth. Lesson 2, how to get overtunes. Nice video, though. I've been practicing for a long time to be able to play higher than the saxophone "allows you to". This might help.

  • The position of the tongue in the mouth will cause the air to speed up. Saying "eee" raises the tongue up and also speeds up the air. That is how I get higher notes

  • i'm not sure "speed of the air" has anything to do with getting the different notes on a low Bb.....it's voicing...

PRACTICE VOICING and overtones!!!! (donald sinta's Voicing Book) some of the things you say are true, but you have to almost "sing" the different notes. from practicing voicing,i can get about 3 notes higher that in this video. this video has a good way to practice it, but i highly disagree about the speed of the air. i want your opinion swid, plz comment. nice playing

  • Another important factor of playing Altissimo register is simply the mouthpiece and reed. A lighter reed is great for beginners but will NEVER get those higher registers, also from my research a preferred mouthpiece for Altissimo register is a New York Meyer solid rubber in a # 5. But what ever you use practice is key. But my biggest suggestion is to do what I did. Find someone who plays Altissimo register and have them show you the ins-and outs of it AND DON'T GET DISCOURAGED.

  • For classical, i think very different....

  • I cant play any songs please help!

  • it takes practice.

  • @FunnyCorpNN practice and get a private instructor....not much can be done over the internet

  • What's a way to get MONSTER chops. I mean like being able to do a pushup with your lips. (exaggeration)

  • really it help me a lote teacher thanks a lote. junsax from dominican republic

  • I have to disagree. Blowing fasteris ONE way, but not the correct way to reach the top overtones. The air must speed up, but this is accomplished by raising up the back of the tongue. This makes the air move faster because the space is smaller. Closing your throat will only cause a pinched- off air stream. It is really tough to quantifiy what is happening in your mouth when you play;)

  • He is not fully explaining it. It is NOT just the speed of the air. You change direction of the air as well as manipulate your throat. Blowing out candles on a cake is like changing the speed of your air. You blow harder and faster to get the last few out. Too bad that most of these lessons are woefully incomplete.

  • 1:29 lol

  • damn....thts hard on the bari

  • great teacher!!!

  • everyone's talking about air speed... but how the hell it works??? how to change it???

  • @Clement8617 blow harder :DD but you probably figured that out yourself already

  • This is well thought out and presented very well. You are a very good teacher.

  • Are you biting the reed harder while you are hitting the higher notes while keying a low Bb?

  • hi i play bass and guitar and would like to learn the sax. im 19 and have been looking around for a good beginner one. is there anything i should keep in mind when browsing? also whats the difference between alto, soprano etc?

  • Yamaha- yas 247

bought one today whit out a doubt best beginers sax :-)

  • alto, soprano, tennor, and baritone saxaphone. I believe.. soprano is the highest pitch saxaphone. Alto (the most common one) is pretty much in the middle. Tennor, is a little lower. and bari is the lowest, pretty much as low as a baritone.

  • then theres bass then...contra bass!!! FTW

  • supranino is the highest pith saxophone. It is quite rare and very expensive. In over 30 years of playing woodwinds, I've not seen it played.

  • i thought saprillo was the highest.

  • then u havent been playing woodwinds enough... I've been playing sax for about 6 years now... i sax a sopranino last week... and it wasn't the first time.

  • @Entrigue4

    Sopranino is second highest.

    Soprillo is highest.

  • Thank you very much.

It helps me to figure things out.:)

  • Thanks a lot pete! Great lesson!

  • Just a question. I play guitar, bass and a little bit piano, so I decided to try something different and learn a saxophon. I have musical knowledge, so I want to know how a sax works. How does the keys work? Is it like a regular piano or guitar key like c-major (cdefgabc) in a row, or is it like a flute. Can someone explain it to me? Thanks.

  • The key depends on which mainstream sax you wish to play. Soprano is Bb, Alto is Eb, Tenor is Bb, and Baritone is Eb

  • If you get it and can explain it in a easy way, explain it to me please.

  • my private lessons teacher is showing me how to do this. i can get the B flat to f

  • mucho thanks for this. i'm trying to help my cousin play who is 2,000 miles away from me - hahahaaa XD

you're doing great! make more lessons!

  • Wow Mr I like the thing u can do there mann how long does it take to get to this stage,

I go to music school for 1 1/2 year now and boy seem i got a long way to go

    any tip mail me

    please

  • Nice lesson.I also have lessons on overtones and altissimo . Start from overtone producing and learn advanced altissimo tecqniques too, growling and bending too.Click here to watch.Bye Fabrizio

  • I have been playing sax for 8 years (as a student) and I never knew those fingerings were so multifunctional... thats friggin' sweet. I need to buy me a saxophone... :(

  • i'm learnig a lot from you ... thanks a lot...

  • Hi Pete, truly great work

  • Excellent description & demonstration of the overtone series on the saxophone! I would add that the shape of the throat also plays a part in this process. As the shape of the throat changes from an open "ahh" sound to a more closed "eee" sound this also works to focus and control the speed of the air.

  • Yes this is good.

  • very good job!!!

  • Thank you! your lessons are straightforward and comprehensible!
