  • This looks extremely creepy... But if they're happy...

  • dumbo rats are so cool they look so sad lol

  • @daveowen1000 LOL, yes, you are right! Dumbos do look kinda sad. Although they have the best life at my house! I just adopted two new ones and they happen to be dumbos.

  • give him a white belly and could be twins with our rat dumble :)

  • Boggling is really funny on rats

  • How anyone can not love domesticated rats blows my mind. I think it's unfamiliarity, not knowing how complex and wonderful their personalities are. Ratz rule! :)

  • @PostgodAfterbirth I totally agree with you!

  • @PostgodAfterbirth Agreed 100%. I was never a fan of rats, but after my wife sold me on one, we ended up with 6 total in a large Ferret Nation cage and I must say they are the best small pets I have ever owned. Any time a parent tells me they're looking for a hamster for their kid I spend about 10 minutes telling them why rats are a much better pet, IMO of course.

  • @PostgodAfterbirth my boyfriend was very sceptical about the up and coming arival of my baby girls, ive had them a week now and he says there actually really cute. think in his mind he envisioned the rats hes seen scuttling down back allys! :)

  • @PostgodAfterbirth I have three buck rats.. Although they don't brux much they have a really happy life.. Just eating, sleeping and playing all day long.

My neighbours kids all love the rats but the adults... Oh boy do they come out with the typical comments "ewww" "rats are dirty" etc etc. Tried educating them but you know the old saying "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink".

  • This rat looks exactly like my rat boo :D

  • It's nice when they do that but it freaks me out a bit!

  • See our rat boggling too! watch?v=uKqrOIXa078

    It's a sign of happiness?

  • @Pirulla25 Yes, usually it is a sign of content. I can't get to your video, though.

  • it´s because the youtube deny any post of other videos in the commentaries. But if you write "w w w . y o u t u b e .com / watch?v=uKqr O I X a 0 7 8", just take away the spaces. It´s really impressive, their eyes look like will jump out!

  • You have a beautiful girl! I love it when my ratties do that xD

  • @prettyoddindeed Thank you so much! Yes, I adore it when rats brux and boggle. That makes me feel so good because I know they are content. Kisses to your ratties!

  • ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww babe doesnt do that hope she never will either that looks so wierd

  • @meganmarie5072 I think it looks adorable. You wouldn't like it even if you knew that they are especially content when they brux and boggle??

  • @wonderrodent i wasnt trying to be mean babe has started to do that and its is getting cute its just wierd i am scared her eyes will pop out haha sorry if i made u mad i have had 6 rats my whole life and mine have not done that so sorry

  • @meganmarie5072 No worries - you didn't make me mad. I am glad that your Babe started boggling and that you think it is cute! Soon you'll be addicted to it ;). All the best to you and your ratties!

  • all three of my babies boggle and brux. i Just adopted a five week old baby and she started the day after we got her. they are a lovely little rat family now.

  • My rat always do that to♥

  • My current rat has only boggled once in all the months I've had him ): ! I feel like such a bad mom to him because of it >_>

  • @xoSlackerbitch don't feel bad. Some rats just aren't big bogglers. That doesn't make you a bad rat mom!

  • I burst out laughing when she/he popped it's eyes out. Very adorable! And a beautiful rat as well.

  • @Icameplz Thanks! Yes, boggling looks so funny. One more reason to love rats! Chailyn was an adorable rat indeed!

  • So wonderful ♥

  • Yes, it's totally normal :). Your rat was probably really content at that moment. They might also do this during stress but I am sure that was not the case ;). You see it a lot more often when rats are happy and content. So no worries. Just enjoy!

  • i have a question is that noramal ??? because my rat did it before and it really scared me!!! i thought it was bad or he was sick or something i had no clue!!!! so is it normal??

  • What a classy little rodent! She looks exactly like my Spiciba! THanks for sharing this.

  • ME:OMG

    MOM:what?

    Very cute rat

  • HOLY. That scared me at first. That's normal right?

  • @Auggiekins Oh yes, totally normal! She was chilling out and obviously very happy.

  • cute little rat :DD great colour!

  • @FuzzlCore Thanks! She was a gorgeous and adorable rattie!

  • @wonderrodent was? D:

  • @shilzna Yes, little Chailyn died in December 07 :(.She was 2 years and 2 months when she passed away. Her sister Pisces (video pet rat eating spaghetti) was only 13 months when she died :(. Both far too young!

  • @wonderrodent naaaaawww... its okies i think thier in a better place now.... :)

  • @wonderrodent naaaawww... its okies, i think thier both in a better place rite now....:) the good tihng is you gave em a good life and the bestest time of thier lives ;)

  • @wonderrodent actually that is a very good age for a rat :) considering 10-14 days is a year to a rat. :)

  • @thinkbeforewriting Well, the average is 2 1/2 so I always hope they make at least to 2,5 years. So Chailyn was about 70 years old. Rapunzel was my oldest. She was 3 years and one month!

  • @FuzzlCore Thanks :)

  • what is a rat doing when he moves his head up and snifs?

  • @PjTheAnimator Well, sniffing ;). Rats have an incredible sense of smell (a lot better than vision), so by lifting their head and sniffing. they are trying to locate where the smell comes from. Rats can smell in stereo.

  • @wonderrodent why is he traying to locate the smell?

  • So cute!!! :) <3

  • beautiful rat!

  • Oh is that silver or Russian blue dumbo?

  • @Frogster7 She was a beautiful Russian Silver :)

  • @Frogster7 Oh, and yes, dumbo eared!

  • veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery sweet <3

  • aw! my rat looks just like her. but mines a boy... his name is HOWARD :) lol i always though something was wrong with his eyes when he would do that!! ha thanks :) must mean he really loves me... he does it all the time lol

  • LOL, looks like you've got a very content and happy rattie!

  • She looks like a little princess! Cute!

  • it is a fantastic rat....compliments!!!!!soooo sweet

  • Thank you so much! She sure was a sweet girl :)

  • Thats a great clip of a boggle!

  • Thank you!!

  • Thanks! I am glad that I got it on video. A nice memory of her...

  • too cute! I love when they do that.

  • OMG !! I took my baby to the vets last week! I thought his eyes were going to pop out! scared me to death! thanks a million for clearing that up for me because my husband thought I was going mad.

  • lol! it's called boggeling i thought my rats had issues 2! But then i relized they did it when they were bruxing so it must mean they're happy!

  • do hamsters do this bruxing to when they are happy?? My hamster use to do that, but not the boggling. I did not know why she use to brux. I thought maybe she was just chewing down her teeth. She was sweet hamster though and liked being held.

  • Hmmm, I've never seen boggling in my foster hamsters either. I think it's something just rats do.

  • you are an idiot..

  • This rat deserves life better than you

  • My rat Badger does this all the time he's a boggler, or bruxer lol

    xx

  • Boggling? so thats what it is, my first rats were always doing that. My babe Cleo use to sit on my sholder doing that and chattering to me all the time. I hadnt worked out what exactly it was they were doing at the time, so its good to know they were happy :D

  • aha so its called bruxing they did too, wow I'm learning stuff tonight :P

  • Yep, bruxing and boggling :)I still get a kick out of it when they do it.

Obviously, you had a content and happy rattie too!

Actually, sometimes they also do it before they die :(

  • The first time one of my rats did that it startled me because I thought something was wrong-but then I learned it was natural and meant my Jasper was a happy girl. When Lily does that when she is nibbling on something it is hilarious!

  • she seems like she has the same personality as my Zinc :)

  • She must be an incredibly sweet girl then :) Kisses to your girl

  • So cool to see it happen, mine haven't done it yet. But yet they are VERY happy. Thanks for the vid !

  • I did have one female, however, who'd pop her eyes over nothing! Just curling up on a shelf for a nap was enough for her to start popping, she was such a great pet!

In Denmark, where I'm from, we called boggling 'popping' =)

  • Thanks for sharing your story, MariaWB! I've seen it in all my girls so far and it makes me feel good because I know they are happy (and it makes me laugh every time). I love it!

  • I can remember clearly the first time one of my rats did that, and I was SO happy I knew what it was! *LoL* I've talked to numerous rat-owners who didn't know and they thought their rats were having a fit or something - but who can blame them, it does look really weird!

I was so proud when it happened because only really happy and content rats do it. At the same time, I was about to crack from withheld laughter because it looks so funny!

  • that is some craaaaaaazy boggling. my rat barely ever did that.

  • When I saw this, I thought, her eyes cannot get any bigger then what they already are..I was wrong!

    Cute!

  • all he needs is an i-pod, some ear-plugs and get started baby, he s really cool

  • My boys did that... not attractive!

  • it is so strange! my rat does not do that!

  • They do that when they are very content and happy :)

  • I have one rat that boggles and three who never do. Strange stuff.
